The tobacco companies said the same thing about the link between lung cancer and smoking long ago. Do you understand how science advances? A hypothesis is formed and is tested through experimentation. Connecticut experienced a 40% decline in its gun murder rate after all handgun purchasers were required to pass background checks. Missouri experienced an increase of 23% in its gun murder rate after it stopped requiring all handgun purchasers to pass background checks. I think the cases of Connecticut and Missouri at the very least provide justification for further experimentation. Let's try out closing the private sale loophole in more states. Keep in mind it is the number one policy recommendation of experts on how to reduce gun homicide.

    here is why its stupid

    1) tobacco, when used as intended, harms the user

    2) there is no constitutional right to smoke

    3) guns when used properly don't harm the user

    4) we can show those who use tobacco properly have increased cases of pulmonary disease

    5) you cannot show that those who use guns have increased cases of harm

Not online. You have to meet them in person.

You shop online and the firearm is delivered to an F.F.L. and you complete a background check and form 4473 etc..... or if you have a C&R License from B.A.T.F., C&R eligible firearms can be delivered to your door.

    This is 100% correct.
I did this, just today - except the background check. Under federal law, my CCW permit is an acceptable substitute.

You really should get a C&R License from B.A.T.F.
It is a Federal Firearms License for purchasing C&R eligible firearms, $25 good for 5 years, and no more middleman or transfer fees !

Xenamnes wrote "Which is illegal when done by those who cannot legally possess a firearm."

The existence of Armslist does not make it legal for a prohibited person to purchase or possess a firearm.

I stand corrected. I did not read the post correctly. It is however irelevant. The point is the process is incredibly easy for a prohibited person to get a gun even online.

Cars also don't harm people when used as intended. Yet there are many laws regulating their use.

and its incredibly easy for dopers to score weed, crack or smack in states where those drugs are completely banned.

    your argument is like this

harassing lawful gun owners because criminals get guns is like castrating a celibate man because his neighbors breed like rabbits

we don't have problems with regulation the use of firearms when said use could cause harm

I doubt any gun advocate would have an issue with NYC prohibiting the shooting of centerfire rifles in Central park or skeet shooters blasting pigeons on Times square with 12G shotguns.

no one supports banning people from owning a car that can be used to exceed the speed limits
no one says you cannot own a car that is higher specs than police cars

so why do you want to ban certain types (or in your case, almost all) firearms?

I must have missed the Amendment regarding operating a car as a protected right.
