the percentage of Republican House-members and Senators who voted against far outweighs the percentage of Democrat House-members & Senators who voted against it.

    posted it twice already.

time after time, the GOPers wouldn't co-sponsor the bill, or filibustered, ranted & raved against it.

the percentage of GOPers who opposed the final version is much higher than the percentage of Democrats who opposed it.

they seemed to regard Dr Martin Luther King Jr., as some sort of Communist black devil.

Nope. Proof required. If you posted it twice already, it should be easy to do again.

How is it all the racist Southern voters...who supported Jim Crow and George Wallace...

all "magically disappeared" in the late 70s, early 80s and were replaced by "open-minded, pro-Martin Luther King" Republicans like Strom Thurmond, Jesse Helms, and Trent Lott????

    From your link

"Ironically, the measure had not succeeded in passing Congress in 1979 when the White
House and both houses of Congress were controlled by the Democratic Party, and yet succeeded
in 1983 when the presidency and the Senate were controlled by Republicans"

    Lol... that's funny.

Goes on and on repeating the same claim with no support.... then when he finally does it sort of blows a big lefty hole right through it.

Regardless, many who voted against it were against adding yet another birthday to the government's calendar.

MLK wasn't the only one they turned down.

This guy is leaving this out, and being intentionally misleading.

Or, judging by posting a link that refutes his claim... maybe he simply has no clue what he's saying.

I haven't seen that either. And I can assure virtually ANYONE, that if King were alive today... he'd be far to the "Left" of (even) Colin Powell.

King wanted equality. Not paternalism. That is why he is revered. He would be disgusted by the way democrats run the streets that bear his name, he would be appalled at what the great society has done to poor families. King was a champion of the poor, but he wanted work and opportunity. Not government cheese and federal fathers.

While never being specific about what assistance king wanted, he liked the idea of a guaranteed minimum income. Very similar to the negative income tax. Proposed by milton Friedman. Right wing.

If he wanted AA he should have said "not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. Unless they are applying for a job, or a loan, or to go to college, or they are bidding on a city contract or for a city job. ".

The compensatory payment he felt blacks were owed were educational opportunities. He didn't call for lower standards, he asked for funding access.

BTW, at some point, can't you see the Right claiming that Martin Luther King "actually supported the Vietnam War and wanted us to stay there and win it"?

    And actually BELIEVING it? :D

What's for sure is that Republicans here will blame Democrats for slavery, and credit Republicans for ending it.

They will ignore the fact that slavery was a conservative practice embodying the worst of free market capitalism and freeing slaves and fighting for equality and civil rights are the embodiment of liberalism.

Democratic takes longer, better to just shorten it. At least we didn't use The Dems, Lefters, Leftivists, Socialists, Communists, Fascists, Hipsters, or any of the other applicable terms that would let us all know the subject at hand.

Until every single problem town where there is super high crime, bad schools and little hope isn't run by the Democrat party, they don't deserve the few extra characters it would take to type. Or at least until they start making progress in the right direction.
