I was once a fan of Rush's show. He was funny back when he first was on radio. I used to listen to him in his 12-3:00 PM slot at work. I got a complaint against me to HR by someone whom reported to me who sat outside by office and was offended by Rush. Rush used to love it back when he allowed a few callers and he just loved it when confused Black people called. He would string them alone and if they were rediculous enough he would play their comments again and again. Then he became full of himself. I recall during the first Gulf War Rush was trying to make believe that he knew about military jatgon and knicknames but got caught. When a caller used the term " jarheads". Rush assumed that he was referring to Muslims and repeated the term " jarheads" and laughed and laughed and kept repeating "jarheads" laughing....thinking that he was laughing at Muslims. I just shook my head.

Finally a caller told him that "jarheads" is a knicknames for Marines, US Marines. Soon after that I pulled further and further away from liking and listening to his show. Of course the HR complaint went on my "permanent record".

Barely a racist quote in there. Mostly just truth. The bone in the nose comment had context if I recall. I don’t agree with the slavery line. But think hard. If not for slavery there wouod be far fewer blacks in this country. Think of the amazing accomplishments of some black people that would NEVER have had the opportunities because they would have been stuck back in Africa, quite possibly never been born due to disease, famine and war. Think about it.

In my opinion it was cigar smoking and probably the inhalation of cigar smoke that caused Rush's cancer and early death. He began smoking cigars in the 90s and it is hard to not inhale after a point when you enjoy them.

Rush comes from a very distinguished family. His grandfather, father and uncle were all judges. His cousin is currently a judge and his brother David is a lawyer.

His grandfather lived to over 100 years old and his dad who was born in 1927 is still living past 90 according to wiki.

 

Haha, typical leftist, making judgements on people they admittedly have never listened to for more than 10 (now 19) seconds. I agree with a lot of what Rush says, and disagree with a lot of it. But, not being an ignorant leftist, I am sure to actually listen to what he says before I decide, whether I agree with the message or not. Rush's comments about McNabb were not racist at all but they were stupid. McNabb was a very good player who was slumping at the time and Rush was stupid to allow race or politics into his commentary.

Espn gave him a golden opportunity to just be a regular guy who loved football and knew something about it. He blew that opportunity.

I know it's not the point of this thread, but I'm compelled to address this nonsense any time it rears its ignorant, disgusting head. Blacks brought here through the slave trade, and their descendants, were not ultimately rescued from some interminable hell. The disease and war you mentioned (and the subsequent poverty), where do you think much of that came from? Centuries of Europeans raiding the continent of its resources, subjugating its people, and fomenting conflict have scarred those nations. The "amazing accomplishments of some black people" were not made possible by those folks and their ancestors being brought here in chains. They happened despite the trauma this country, and others, have visited on those people. Those accomplishments, innovations, etc were robbed from Africa.
