I'm suggesting that the only reason any of us are even talking about Bandera today is because a bunch of imperialists and fascists in Russia want us to, because they've made it part of their false justification for invading and annexing Ukrainian land and attempting to destroy Ukraine as an independent nation entirely, the same kind of **** Nazi Germany attempted to do in Poland and elsewhere.

The only way that's true is if culturally Western publications like the Times of Israel were pushing propaganda for "a bunch of imperialists and fascists in Russia" ...which sounds unlikely without some corroborating evidence. It sounds MORE like Ukraine has a complicated history with Nazis and the holocaust that it would prefer to simplify and NOT talk about. ...which IS of course, the case.

 

It's simply not an issue. The country has been invaded under false pretenses by a fascist, imperialist nation next door that is attempting to destroy it and take over its territory for itself. The Times of Israel article is not attempting to justify this war. It's just an article author complaining about Bandera and how he is regarded in modern Ukraine. Neither he nor some far-right minority in Ukraine justifies this war, so what is there to discuss? Especially in a thread about this war?

What DOES need to be discussed is: how to best END the war. Its possible that an acknowledgement that Russia has an unreasonable but perhaps justifiable fear of nazis might play a part in that discussion, given their history with Nazism. As much as Jews have an understandable worry about Nazism flaring back up (even when it really isn't), so do Russians. And yet, we funded for quite a long time the armament of known neo-Nazi groups on its border. We wouldn't have done that to, say, Israel. It doesn't mean Russia was right in invading ...but it is an indication that perhaps funding neo-Nazis in Ukraine was meant to antagonize Russia into invading anyway. If we can't have such discussions, it makes it a lot harder (read: bloodier and disastrous) to END the war.

If you keep tossing harmless spiders at someone who has arachnophobia, they would still be wrong in shooting you for it, but its still also true you were asking for some sort of response, and an indication that you arent going to do that anymore may be required to end hostilities.

Alleged Russian fears of Nazis ring hollow in light of the facts. I stand by what I've already said -- it's a flimsy excuse to try and justify this invasion. It's not a legitimate concern on their part, just part of the propaganda put out by the Kremlin. The minsk agreement was supposed to put a stop to the persecution 2014 .. Ukraine and Nato ignored the agreement. Instead USA built a huge army .. some 250,000 Strong .. well equiped .. well trained .. ready to go into the separatist Region when Russia stepped into the conflict .. with its special denazification operation.
