    MOD WARNING

You just can't make crap like this up. This is even worse than a school taking a girl's turkey and cheese sandwich away because it wasn't nutritious enough and gave her chicken nuggets and charged her parents for it. To shame these kids and make them throw their school lunch away is insane. I am beginning to think that people have lost all common sense.

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Students at Robert J. Coelho Middle School in Attleboro were told to throw their school lunches away if they didn't have lunch credit.

School officials told FOX 25 that employees of the school lunch vendor, Whitsons School Nutrition, denied lunches to students with outstanding balances or forced them to throw their lunches away over the last two weeks.

One fifth grader tells FOX 25 she was told to throw out her lunch before she could even take a bite.

"They told me to throw it away because I didn't have enough money in my account," says Victoria Greaves.

Greaves' father, John, said he has never had an issue, but this incident was enough to make him angry.

Coelho Middle School Principal Andy Boles told FOX 25 that he became aware of the situation at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday after an angry parent contacted him. He immediately launched an investigation.

Boles said that Whitsons told him about deficient accounts at the beginning of the year and offered to pass along a statement to parents. Boles said the company never gave him the statement.

The principal also said the school his taking corrective action and that he has met with at least 15 upset students, as well as the cafeteria workers responsible.

"They apologized for their actions," says Boles of the cafeteria workers. "Their intent was not to humiliate or upset the students, which I stated to them they had done."

In a statement to FOX 25, Whitsons said that they regret how their employees handled the situation.

"We regret that these students were denied meals and agree that this situation should have been handled differently," said Whitsons. "We apologize to the students and the community for this incident and are conducting a full investigation."

Boles said it was "unacceptable" that any student go without a lunch.

Whitsons said they are working on a policy to handle future unpaid debt and said that no child will go without a meal in the meantime, regardless of outstanding balances.

The superintendent tells FOX 25 she has placed the on-site director on administrative leave as the investigation continues.

We had a similar situtation were kids with zero balances were stamped but fed and this forum was lit up with anger by a certain political group all because of the stamp.

In this situation kids were not fed at all. Lets see which is worse eh?

I didnt think the stamp was bad because it was a great way to nofify the parents to put more money in the account. The kids were still fed. I believed in that thread i was called aracist and "hated" poor kids even though the only word of this "shaming" came from the principal who had been fired.

This situation is horrid. They litterally handed kids food and then took it away leaving them with nothing?

WTF was the principal doing when this was going on? The public school system is overrun with ineffective, overpaid administrators. Cut the administrators in half, cut the pay of the remaining administrators, and give that money to the overworked teachers.

Probably his job, which I doubt entails monitoring the daily lunch lines.

Oh yes, the principal has no responsibility for the students. Voters who give the principal and other administrators a pass on issues like this are part of the problem.

Did you continue reading to see the part where the principal did take responsibility when the issue was finally brought to principal's attention.

Cons "make crap like this up" all the time. That's what happens when you put profits above people.
I don't see why you are complaining since such thinking is one of the cons' favorite ideological pillars.
They are willing to throw anyone under the bus who can't pay his/her own way.
I bet Whitson is a market leader in cutting their employees' hours to avoid having to pay them healthcare and God knows where they actually source their food from to help increase their profits.

Seeing that this isn't the first time this has happened such incidents should not be happening today.

At an Utah elementary school some kids had their lunches taken away and thrown in the garbage because they owed money.

So since this issue is always in the news why does the dumb principal acted surprised when it happens at his/her school? The dummy should address the issue before it happens, not after.

If the school serves food then it shouldn't charge the students. That's what school taxes are for. After all, it's not like the price the students pay cover the cost of the food anyway. So the school districts should just serve the kids free food.

Reads like just another case of the mindless 'privatization' mania so beloved by libertoon fanatics and right wing sociopaths running amok as usual.

The topic was a company who puts profits above everything else and is willing to let kids go hungry rather than letting them have lunch because they owe some money.
    Classic right-wing bull(*)(*)(*)(*).

Too bad for the lib talking points that it happened in the People's Socialist Republic of Massachusetts where there are no conservatives.

Meaning that even the evil, rich, greedy business owners are libs.

    And the cafateria workers too.

I notice he's trying to do a little damage control , and downplay it a notch with his word choices here.

Not quite. if Im reading the story correctly these students had lunches given to them, and then were forced to throw them away.

Thats much worse than being told no you cant have one. They were given one, and then had it taken from them...and wasted the food and money spent on it by throwing it in the trash.

Hope someone gets (*)(*)(*)(*)canned to send a message.

Whitson is a big private company working across many states, with deliberate policies that put the emphasis on profits over anything else.
A lot of mealy-mouthed backtracking now because they were embarrassed by their actions doesn't change the fact that they were willing to deny children lunches because the were owed some money.
That reflects the corporate culture that right-wingers love to defend.
Right-wingers should be applauding them for their actions instead of pretending hypocritically that they give a (*)(*)(*)(*) about whether poor school kids get to eat lunch.

The only one responsible for this is Whitsons and their corporate policies.
Trying to scapegoat some minimum wage food server is a sham since the employee was just following company policy.

Please quote or link the company policy that dictates serving food to kids and then taking it away when they have a low or zero balance.
