Sure ask the people coming from Europe who are trapped like sardines at the airport screening centers. Tramp has turned airports into incubation centers for the COVFEFE-45 virus.

A day after thousands of passengers were left waiting for hours at O’Hare International Airport as they faced advance screening for the coronavirus, Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Sunday called on the White House and other federal authorities to “offer concrete suggestions on how to avoid or at least mitigate these problems” from now on.

“Last night, we saw that safety and security was seriously compromised and people were forced into conditions that are against [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] guidance and are totally unacceptable,” Lightfoot told reporters at O’Hare.

On Saturday — the first day of increased COVID-19 screening for travelers flying from 16 European countries to 13 U.S. airports — more than 3,000 passengers were stuck inside O’Hare’s international terminal awaiting screening. Similarly chaotic scenes played out at some of the other airports, where passengers were screened for COVID-19 and advised to self-quarantine for 14 days as part of a new policy announced last week by the Trump administration.

So you think the career professionals at every federal agency are sitting on their hands waiting for Trump to tell them how to do their jobs?

I just spent the last half hour searching the internet for the age groups of people who have died of the coronavirus in the U.S. I used as many variables of the inquiry as I could think of. The federal and state governments are not providing this vital statistic. Why?

If anyone can find it, I would appreciate it; the age group of actual deaths in the U.S., not projections and prophesies.

The death toll in the U.S. rose to 71 today. That is an increase of 14 in one day. It is reasonable to assume that in country with 327 million people, that 14 people over the age of 60 with preexisting conditions and a severe common cold would die. Far more died of lung cancer, heart disease, and the flu.

In Italy, a country with one of the world’s oldest populations, a March 4 analysis by the national health institute found that of the 105 patients who died from the virus, the average age was 81. This put a 20-year gap between the average age of people who tested positive for the virus and the deceased.

Of course, as we banned / tightly controlled travel from infected places, Trudeau was allowing flights from China to Vancouver, so infections can fly into Canada and drive across the border into Washington State. Trump made exceptions for American citizens stuck abroad ,,, your beloved bureaucrats screw some of that up ,,, but he did act to keep immigrant viri out of the country.

Again, my assertion is that this is a new virus for the common cold, and that the people who are dying are the elderly with preexisting conditions, very much like the common cold. The coronavirus is more virulent because it is new and people have no immunity to it, but, unlike a real pandemic caused by a dangerous virus, it is not fatal to the entire population, the young for instance.

The death toll, which is rarely mentioned by government doing its best to scare the daylights out of us, supports my contention. In the U.S. there have been 81 deaths, 42 in Seattle-area nursing homes. Six have died in CA, population 39.56 million. Five have died in N.Y. state population 19.54 million.

If government really wanted to scare us about a highly contagious pandemic, they would use the death toll, but they can't. This has been going on since January, and the death toll is miniscule.

The question is why. Why is the government trying to scare us?

I really have no idea, but the repercussions are horrendous. No more recreation, no more dining, no more gathering of people, and, worst of all, the stock market. Millions of Americans have lost trillions in retirement savings and investment. It will take years to recover, and some do not have years. In addition, most likely we are heading toward a recession in which millions of Americans will lose their jobs. Many already have.

Why? Because 81 have died in the U.S. in the past three months because of a new strain of the common cold? That doesn't make any sense.

"While some of those examples were deadlier than the coronavirus, they were far more limited in scope."

Can you explain what that means?

We first became aware of covid-19 cases in January. Three months later in the U.S., population 327 million, there are only 3,487 cases today, according to the CDC. Cases in U.S. | CDC

There is some confusion on the number of deaths. The CDC says 68. CNN reported 81. 81 deaths in three months within a population of 327 million?

    Isn't covid-19 limited in scope?

We're still at 68 deaths. It'll be quite the climb to get to tens of thousands. And that's a good thing.

I think the plan is to reduce the rate of infections by everyone observing basic precautions, like washing hands, coughing into tissues, keeping your distance from strangers, self quarantining if you feel sick with the symptoms, stay out of large crowds, you know, common sense kind of stuff.

If we do all of that, it should slow the spread, which will allow our medical treatment facilities to handle the load, and not become overwhelmed. This will also allow supplies to keep up with demand, so we do not find ourselves screening people who need to go home and die, because we don't have enough to go around.

It's going to hinge on whether people actually take this seriously, or keep partying at beaches in Florida, like dumbasses. If people don't take social distaincing seriously, we'll probably start looking at harsher measures, like what's going on in Europe.

Don't worry. To save the planet, clean single use plastic grocery bags are being banned in favor of filthy, virus and bacteria infected reusable bags.

According to the CDC, we are now up to.....75 deaths.

I was told(as were we all) that this thing was going to swell to the hundreds of thousands to millions.(Despite it not doing that anywhere in the world.) and that crippling the world's superpower was for our safety.

    https://theconservativetreehouse.co...ot-be-quantified-until-next-week/#more-186597

As one commentator on that site noted, this had better work(and by work, I mean actually mean something) otherwise, you're going to get a bunch of angry consumers on both sides of the aisle.

This country fought a whole WW2, but today it had been crippled by something that so far is still at less than 100 deaths, and still less than 5,000(though it will reach there) a whole five days after my post showing the math.

Well, virus hate high heat and humidity, so going to the beach will certainly lesson your chance of contracting the disease.

But I do get you point. If young people secure in the thought that they can catch the virus with only minor issues, are going about as if nothing has happened. They may just end up walking around spreading the disease, and a lot of people can catch it and die. Or those people may become hospitalized and incur a $5,000 hospital stay bill, all cuz 20-somethings feel bullet proof on spring break.

Oh yeah, when I see a person putting their disease ridden reusable bags on the grocery counter, I switch to a different register.

True, people can wash them, but I seriously doubt they wash them after every trip to the store. One lady's bags looked like they had not been washed in a decade. They were disgusting. I told the cashier he will need to disinfect everywhere those filthy bags touched; then I switched lanes. ;)

This is all very confusing, and I don't make the claim that I am right. I am asserting that covid-19 is a new virus for a very old disease -- the common cold. I am suggesting that the numbers in the U.S., which you ignored, bear me out. So do the numbers in Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Japan.

This began three months ago in January. According to the CDC, in a country with 327 million people, there are today 4226 cases and 75 deaths. Those numbers have a very close resemblance to the common cold. Cases in U.S. | CDC

It is interesting that those who disagree with my suppositions avoid those numbers and duration and go straight to Italy, the absolute worst case scenario.

Naysayers, which includes the government, use the worst example, Italy, and we have no idea what went on in Italy before all this began. We do know Italy has the oldest population in Europe. Maybe Italy grouped all the sick, old people together and the contagious virus went quickly from one oldie to another oldie. I don't know.

In Italy, a country with one of the world’s oldest populations, a March 4 analysis by the national health institute found that of the 105 patients who died from the virus, the average age was 81. This put a 20-year gap between the average age of people who tested positive for the virus and the deceased.

Coronavirus and age: Why Covid-19 is so dangerous for older adults - Vox

All I am doing is asking if the cure is worst than the disease because the repercussions of the cure are horrendous, loss of all diversionary entertainment, loss of retirement savings, loss of investments, loss of jobs, and recession.

All because of a disease that bears a strong resemblance to the common cold.

I am rather certain that if the U.S. government provided the statistics of the rhinovirus (the common cold) last year, those statistics would be similar to covid-19 today.

The testing has been insufficient, and there are probably a lot more cases of coronavirus in the U.S. than is being reported. That said, the number of deaths accorded covid-19 is a relative certainty.

That number, according to CNN, has finally reached a hundred. Think of it, within a population of 327 million in three months this "deadly" disease finally reached the pinnacle of 100 deaths! Wow! Double wow in terms of really weird incredulity!

Because of 100 deaths and based on projections and prophesy, the U.S. government has destroyed our once powerful economy, caused the loss of billions in savings accounts for millions of Americans, and caused the loss of countless jobs as America moves from the most powerful economy in Earth's history to a recession or worse. To counteract this, the Trump administration wants to hand out one trillion dollars in welfare to Americans -- welfare to compensate for the loss of a job.

All of this caused by a government that is reacting to what might happen.

The number of people with the common cold caused by the coronavirus has grown to 5300 among 327 million people (U.S.) in three months. We are still waiting for an age breakdown on corona-19 deaths in the U.S. All countries are extremely weak on demographics of the pandemic although there is this:

In Italy, a country with one of the world’s oldest populations, a March 4 analysis by the national health institute found that of the 105 patients who died from the virus, the average age was 81. This put a 20-year gap between the average age of people who tested positive for the virus and the deceased.

Coronavirus and age: Why Covid-19 is so dangerous for older adults - Vox

Why are governments keeping vital information to themselves?

A story on Fox News told us the number of tests in New York City and the number afflicted, but did not tell us how many had died. Is it possible that is because the number is miniscule? Yesterday, in a population of 8.6 million five had died of the coronavirus affliction. There was no data for today.

CNN interviewed the governor of Rhode Island today. She reported that two more victims could be added to the list. She also reported that hundreds are being tested daily. No word on how many had died of the virus in R.I.

for virus like this you want prepare for the worst. if it never happen at most people just saying overracted, but if just let it happens, then millions could die. take swine flu, we do nothing in 1 year of time it kill 12,000 american (68million american was infected) and 500k worldwide, death rate is 0.01. consider COV19 has Higher spread rate 2.5 and Higher death rate 1-3%, that means if we dont flatten the curve within a year, its 100million americans and 1% of that is 1million people dead, 12,000 vs 1million see the difference. COV19 just start it, we haven't reach peak yet. furthermore if ICU is overloaded, then doctor has to choose who die or not, increasing death rate to 6% as we seen currently in italy, thats 6million just in US. thats why everyone is freakout. dont think about current case, think about what happen 3-6month from now.
also cov19 is new, unlike flu we study for decades. information is critical in fighting any warfare, the more you know about the enemy the better. In this case we have few info on Cov19.

You can't compare death rates using different time frames. To do a proper comparison, you need to compare numbers from similar time frames and similar points in terms of when a virus has begun spreading. For instance, how many died per week etc after the X virus began spreading, compared to how many have died per week since the Coronavirus has begun spreading in the US. Also, people like to skip over this fact, but so far, in the concluded cases category, meaning those which have either resulted in recovery or death, the numbers aren't all that great outside of East Asia. In fact, they are horrible in Italy (nearly 50%) and in the US (over 50%). The US numbers might come down as the sample of concluded cases gets larger, but you don't measure the death rate of any form of disease (e.g., cancer) by taking people who have developed the disease and are still in treatment but rather by looking at the final disposition of the cases. The same applies for the Coronavirus. Until the active cases reach a conclusion, meaning either lead to recovery or death, the percentages from the active cases isn't telling at all.
