I don’t know enough about the show to have an opinion on it. My first reaction is probably similar to yours, but having seen some shows on Netflix I also think it’s possible that the show condemns the sexualisation of children.

Mostly I’m curious as to why a leap to the conclusion that those criticizing Cruz must be progressives. Whether you have any evidence to support that or you just made it up.

 

The film in question is actually supposed to be a critique on the sexualization of pre-adolescent girls, I don’t know how well the film lives up to the moral message it claims to promote since I am not going to ever watch it. That being said, I find the films promotion imagery to be very questionable. Contrary to what some people have suggested, the film does not depict underaged nudity (at least according to the DOJ)

As reprehensible as the film’s imagery is, the problem with labeling it child pornography is then that would mean every individual and every news source that is sharing said imagery to comment on the film’s content would then be in violation of federal child pornography laws (including the article in the OP of this thread)

It is illegal to share images of child pornography, even for news outlets who are reporting on the content. So while I do find this whole thing to be repulsive, and I am seriously questioning Netflix’s ethics standards in having such content on their streaming service, I do not believe labeling the content as child pornography is the proper course of action

 

All of that may be true....but....from what I have read, and the very little I have seen tells me that there will be pedo wankers getting off on some of the imagery and they will not give a second thought to esoteric critiques etc etc. It is not porn.....it is sexual exploitation of kids.

 

If that film is sexual exploitation of kids then all children, and really all adults including men should be made to wear burkhas, even in the summer and including on the beach (ESPECIALLY on the beach). "Pedo wankers" get off on nearly everything.

We are becoming outrageously puritanical in this country, and it does not help the problem at all.

This forces us to confront an uncomfortable truth, if a market exists, and money can be made supplying that market, then someone's going to supply it. We can sit and tut, tut "well what kind of a man (or woman, rare, but let's be honest here) would want"... that's totally immaterial, the market exists, and I fear it's MUCH larger than we'd wish to acknowledge. "Cuties" is another foray into the feasibility of supplying that market with a legal, soft-core product. "Nope, don't have any of the hard stuff but we have this one here featuring scantily clad young girls bumping and grinding, up close and in your face. Fifty bucks, please.". When the outcry dies down, and should "Cuties" show a profit, more will surely follow, each more provocative than the last, edging up to but never crossing the line into illegality. What can you do about it? Damn'd if I know. I'm just telling it as I see it.

 

Netflix is operated in the US. Therefore, child porn laws do apply. The investigation is not against the Filmmakers. It is against Netflix for showing the film on their service.

While I have not seen this movie, I can only go by what the OP article states, and that is one scene show a partially nude child. That is a clear violation of US Laws. Netflix should do the right thing and pull this from their service.
