In sum: Trump's diseased brain is a mortal danger to journalists around the world, because dictatorships use his deranged lies as an excuse, and there is also no telling how his deranged cultists, who believe his deranged lies and smears against the media, might choose to act on that shared belief.

    https://money.cnn.com/2018/07/29/media/trump-nyt-sulzberger/index.html

President Donald Trump met with the publisher of the New York Times A.G. Sulzberger earlier this month. But the two seem to have different recollections of the July 20th meeting at the White House.
Trump first revealed the meeting took place in a tweet on Sunday morning from his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

"Had a very good and interesting meeting at the White House with A.G. Sulzberger, Publisher of the New York Times," Trump wrote. "Spent much time talking about the vast amounts of Fake News being put out by the media & how that Fake News has morphed into phrase, 'Enemy of the People.' Sad!"

In a lengthy statement released after Trump's tweet, the New York Times said that it was the White House who invited the Times, and that it requested the meeting be off-the-record.

But with Trump's tweet, a Times spokeswoman said the newspaper decided to publicize Sulzberger's "detailed notes." Sulzberger attended the meeting along with editorial page editor, James Bennet.

Sulzberger said he accepted the meeting to raise concerns about "the president's deeply troubling anti-press rhetoric" and that he told Trump his language was divisive and "increasingly dangerous."

"I told him that although the phrase 'fake news' is untrue and harmful, I am far more concerned about his labeling journalists 'the enemy of the people.' I warned that this inflammatory language is contributing to a rise in threats against journalists and will lead to violence," Sulzberger said.

"I repeatedly stressed that this is particularly true abroad, where the president's rhetoric is being used by some regimes to justify sweeping crackdowns on journalists. I warned that it was putting lives at risk, that it was undermining the democratic ideals of our nation, and that it was eroding one of our country's greatest exports: a commitment to free speech and a free press.

"Throughout the conversation I emphasized that if President Trump, like previous presidents, was upset with coverage of his administration he was of course free to tell the world. I made clear repeatedly that I was not asking for him to soften his attacks on The Times if he felt our coverage was unfair. Instead, I implored him to reconsider his broader attacks on journalism, which I believe are dangerous and harmful to our country," he continued.

"The president regularly meets with members of the media and we can confirm this meeting took place," said White House spokeswoman Mercedes Schlapp.

A president meeting with the publisher of one of the country's most prominent newspapers is not unusual. Presidents have often held off-the-record meetings with owners and publishers of major media outlets.

But the Times holds a special place for Trump, a New York native. Despite his frequent criticism of Times' reporters and their stories, he has still given the paper multiple interviews.

Sulzberger is still a new publisher. He took over the family-controlled paper from his father Arthur Ochs Sulzberger Jr. in January and has been overseeing a boom time for the business.

Despite Trump's "failing New York Times" nickname, the Times is actually experiencing a surge in subscribers and popularity. Its profits increased by about two-thirds in the first quarter of 2018. Its "The Daily" podcast brings in millions of listeners each month.

Soon after winning the 2016 election, Trump traveled to meet with editors and reporters at the New York Times' headquarters, where he lauded the paper as a "great, great American jewel" and that he hoped they could all "get along."

Soros spoonfeeding: : "HURRY!! Deflect from the booming economy, return of US KIAs from Korea, and successful trade negotiations!!"

    Laughably predictable.

US 'journalism' is nothing to be proud of....it is a toxic soup of defamation, lies, politically self-serving spin and click-bait.

anyone who pretends otherwise has an agenda.

Did Trump tell him his reporters shouldn't be sleeping with Intelligence Committee staffers in order to get classified information?

    OH BS.

Trumps labeling of everything that he doesnt agree with, or doesnt agree with him has been a danger since the day he started campaigning. He is tearing down the very pillars of our democracy, and people such as your self not only allow him to do it, you blindly support it.

The intelligence community doesnt agree with him, then they are all “democrats who are trying to get him”. The press reports on him, and holds him accountable, and he labels them “fake news” and his followers support it. The news media shows he lies, proves themselves correct, and Trump and his followers still call them “fake news”.

This si a VERY dangerous game the right is playing. But I have no doubt in my mind that if a dem wins in the next election, it will be bacause of the “fake news media”, or “the intelligence community is conspiring against him”.

Oh you think I needed Trump to tell me the media was an enemy! Got news for you, I have been aware of their spindango, bullshit, lying, manipulation and
confidence game long before Trump made the truth about them main stream!

The funny part about dictatorship, is the leftist bow to the corrupt MSM and all walk lockstep to that dictatorship :)

Good for Trump. But make sure when you show this you compare apples to apples.

Economic growth over a single quarter (in which the tax breaks helped corporations), vs economic growth over a 8 year period which included one of the worst recessions in our countries history is not really a fair comparison.

And I seriously mean Kudos to Trump for the economic growth. I give credit where credit is due. I hope it is a sustained growth !

And Mr.Obatard was no better in his eight years in office! Only difference is that punk ass wuss couldn't even stand ONE conservative voice on prime time, whereas Trump is beating back chickenshit media lies from every outlet..

Trump called a spade a spade. The American people see it, and if Libs would ever look DEEP down, they even know it's true. The Nazis controlled the media in Germany and they did Hitler's bidding just as the media here does the bidding of Democrats. That is called a police state.
You people never learn. You call Republicans racist, misogynist, Islamophobic, and a slew of others, and instead of learning from your failures (heaven forbid), you decide to use the term "cultist". Really? If anyone belongs to a cult, it's Democrats because they insist upon group think, and if you veer off the farm at all, you are exiled. I would call THAT cultish behavior. But I guess that "cult" is the new buzzword. I'm glad you all got the memo like good little followers. This is so hilarious. You are so predictable...

You mean 1.8% like Mr.Obatards :) You do realize if Trump even manages to hold it to 2% he has bettered Mr. Obatards record :) The one thing about real math, the leftist thought setting the bar low and cheering about it wouldn't come back to make them look silly :)

It is fake news, as well as an outlet where classified information gets dumped repeatedly and they and by extension every other propagandist since 2016 is an enemy of truth and accuracy. What I'd miss? Oh, and Trump's words do not justify barbarism, the barbaric regimes would have acted just the same regardless. That's Flake's argument and it's very Flakey(all puns intended.)

I just find it funny that those who argue for self-responsibility can't take any for themselves. Maybe making sure their stories are factually accurate or at least keeping opinions to the opinion section of the newsletter would result in less attacks. Maybe?

This isn’t the first time, nor will it be the last, that Trump started a fight then whined he was being judged unfairly. If he tells someone that something is “off the record”, then Trump should be honest and man enough to abide by his own word.

What? Trump and the words "man" and "honest" in the same sentence is the quintessential oxymoron. Comrade Cadet Spanky Bone Spurs is a cowardly whiner extraordinaire.

What are you talking about. The OP is about Trump's scureloous attack on journalists by calling them the enemy of the people. There was no mention of Soros, and not about the economy, or trade negotiations because because they were not the topic. There was no mention of the innaugeration crowd size, or how many EC votes Trump got vs Clinton either because those were the OP topic. So what has gotten your panties in a jam.

I read the papers. They're mostly Liberal cesspools of printed clickbait and opinion. Even the opinion sections and letters to the editor aren't balanced. Its just a 24/7 mission to convince us all to hate Trump, because he beat a woman so soundly and made them all look like blathering, ignorant, clueless fools. People talk that Trump has too big an ego. The MSM has the biggest ego in the UNiverse. Every reporter who was made to look like an idiot, is just trying to save face. If they can somehow manage to get Trump convicted of something, ANYTHING, it will fulfill the prophesy and narrative they created. Impeached? All the better. They just want to be proven right by any means.
