I really like King David. He was an adulterer, murderer yet he was a man after God's own heart. Probably a little deep for you. He made Israel a great Nation. President Trump is my President. He is not my Pastor. He is extremely good for the Nation. He makes the establishment wet the bed!

Isn't it sad that there's a greater chance that we'll have a gay president before having a declared atheist?

I think it better a President stay out of religious matters. The person serving as President, go practice your religious faith to your little hearts desire. Everyone has a personal right to their beliefs as far as morals and principles and whether those involve matters of religious faith is of no matter. But those matters of religious faith have no business in government and government not in it. The President AS President should not involve himself in promoting any particular religious faith at all. He should say if asked that he is not a religious leader, he is a political leader, when he cross over to matters of faith he is just a simple man. He should not speak as to one religious faith over another or over none at all. That he encourages everyone to practice their own views whatever they may be and will defend their right to do so. And that be the end of it.

    Interesting point.

Why shouldn't an atheist not be elected because they are atheist. Personally I don't like labels and the word itself. Why shouldn't someone who does not hold a religious FAITH not serve as President because of that? What makes a person a better President BECAUSE of the religious FAITH.

    Exactly.

It actually should be a plus, since his/her first-go-to will be logic and reasoning, but apparently a segment of the population doesn't feel comfortable with that.

I don't judge one against the other, I just don't think it should matter at all and when you start mixing government with religious faith you're looking for BIG trouble.

For some. I’ve seen others believe their god to be a bottle of whiskey or a syringe full of heroin or a blunt of purple kush. Your god is your choice.

Is it? There are many parts of this country where being a non-Christian effectively bars one from elected office. There are still laws on the books in some counties that say a non-Christian cannot hold office.

I can see staying out of religious matters, (as in denominations etc.) but if someone lives their faith, it is a part of their lives. If one has the belief his ancestors crawled out of the slime and became human then that belief might allow him to believe the unborn can be slaughtered because they have little or know value. If one has faith in God who puts value on life, they see it through a different perspective. You don't separate faith.

    Which god?

You realize the only reason that phrase is allowed is because the courts have ruled the world doesn’t mean the christian god.
Basically it has been so diluted that it has no meaning

    Partially agree.
If you represent the population, you can’t inflict your religious views on them. If your religion is so important to you, perhaps public service is not for you.
I despise people who claim to have a faith which they don’t practice.
For example, politicians who say “ God bless America” but lie and cheat.

It was Congress and not the courts.

Before February 1954, no endeavor to get the pledge officially amended had succeeded. The final successful push came from George MacPherson Docherty. Some American presidents honored Lincoln's birthday by attending services at the church Lincoln attended, New York Avenue Presbyterian Church by sitting in Lincoln's pew on the Sunday nearest February 12. On February 7, 1954, with President Eisenhower sitting in Lincoln's pew, the church's pastor, George MacPherson Docherty, delivered a sermon based on the Gettysburg Address entitled "A New Birth of Freedom." He argued that the nation's might lay not in arms but rather in its spirit and higher purpose. He noted that the Pledge's sentiments could be those of any nation: "There was something missing in the pledge, and that which was missing was the characteristic and definitive factor in the American way of life." He cited Lincoln's words "under God" as defining words that set the US apart from other nations.

President Eisenhower had been baptized a Presbyterian very recently, just a year before. He responded enthusiastically to Docherty in a conversation following the service. Eisenhower acted on his suggestion the next day and on February 8, 1954, Rep. Charles Oakman (R-Mich.), introduced a bill to that effect. Congress passed the necessary legislation and Eisenhower signed the bill into law on Flag Day, June 14, 1954. Eisenhower said:

How 'bout secularists that lie and cheat? Is it because they have lower standards....it doesn't matter? No God that sees what they're doing when no one is watching? Does that explain Hunter Biden getting $80,000/ month? Is he just practicing his unbelief?

Can anyone here imagine what the religious right in the country would have done if Obama had been found to be paying off porn stars for sex just before his first election? Holy crap - they would have gone through the roof - but with Trump they just shrug their shoulders and say, "Whatever - it's just Trump being Trump". Talk about double standards.
