Germans pay 3X the rate. They use less and have a lower standard of living because of that.

 

The average American Joe has far more and much bigger electric appliances and heats a much bigger house. This is a perfect example of how charts and graphs can be useless when they cherry pick data.

 

They use less, because they do not use airconditioning. I also do think they are able to build their houses much better. For what I've seen, they make them with double concrete walls, where American houses are usually made from plywood.

 

I don't deny that. A bill is still a bill. Germany is a free country. They can put in an airconditioning if they felt like it. They do build them in their cars. They just don't do that in their houses, just because. And so overall, they just pay less. That was the point

My dad framed houses for 50 years. They use much more than "plywood" to build houses in America. They typically have brick, over styrofoam insulation, over framing, over sheetrock. That's just the standard construction. Newer homes are going to polyurethane spray insulation to form an internal shell before sheetrocking the walls. Metal framing and metal roofs are becoming more popular. Even mobile homes are more than just plywood. Those that work hard and smart typically live in more than a doublewide, but it's a free country and you can live like you want here.
