The only reason is to raise funds. What the funds are used for is another story.

I would prefer a tent on acreage to paying rent. A mortgage is hard enough, but with patience you eventually have something that you own. Last time I payed rent I was in college, but working too. I assumed the loan on my first real estate purchase -- the cash money talked.

A guy I have learned a lot from a guy who designed his own mix of waterproof mud and started with a mud hut on acreage.

Wanting to own a home is common in many countries.

Apparently you don't understand the concept of social engineering through taxes. Government lowers taxes on behavior they want to encourage and raise taxes on behavior they want to discourage

My first home was a one room cabin on three acres with no electricity running water or phone. I bought it for 6k cash and was just as proud and happy as I could be. It was mine!

Feel free to pretend they do not raise funds through taxes.

    Really.....that's funny.

Macron’s Defeat in Paris Sounds Alarm for Europe

Less than a month ago, French President Emmanuel Macron staked his claim as the flag-bearer for globalism. In a speech to 60 world leaders at the Arc de Triomphe, he eulogized the United Nations and declared nationalism the “betrayal” of patriotism.

Last Saturday, tear gas and cobblestones flew in the same part of Paris as protesters trashed the iconic monument and demanded Macron’s embattled government withdraw a proposed fuel-tax increase. For the first time in his presidency, he backed down. It was a humbling moment for opponents of the populist revolts that spawned Donald Trump.....snip~

Europe has seen many a critical juncture in recent years, from the Greek debt crisis to the anti-immigrant backlash against refugees and Britain’s Brexit vote. Rarely, though, have so many political vultures been circling around one leader with so much at stake for the world order.

Poland is flirting with the far right and nationalist parties cajoled by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban are plotting a rebellion at European Parliamentary elections in May. Meanwhile, Italy has collided with the European Union by taking a defiant stand on its budget spending.

With the EU’s erstwhile firefighter, Angela Merkel, planning to step down as German chancellor, the baton was supposed to pass to Macron to uphold liberal democracy. But Merkel’s power on the world stage was underpinned by a political fortress at home, and the French leader looks anything but solid.....snip~

Then again.....it seems like it is a factor.

Of course it got expensive once they stopped Nuclear energy. The Germans besides being frugal are community minded and will cooperate for the common good. They have Russian gas which is reasonably priced and has always been reliable. This is why they're not bowing to Washington's demands to stop the pipeline.

Becoming dependent on Russia for vital fuel seems none too smart.

I live across the street from rural land....spanning hundreds of acres. A young family just bought 4 acres...undeveloped land. There going to have to build a house, get water lines, electricity, septic tank... And everyday, even in the cold, they are walking it, driving across it with the kids in the back of the truck, playing games with the kids , having campfires....this is a tickled family.

You go source me that they are that poor that they have to make that choice.
If you got the balls to look it up, you would find that the Germans got a heck of a lot of money saved. Far more than the Americans.

I know Germany isn't poor. But if someone of middle income wanted to buy...they'd have a hell of a time finding something suitable to buy within their price range. The person who wants to be in the 40% of those wanting to own most certainly needs a much higher threshold of dollars to purchase and put down.

So again my point...that a better built house is nice but only available to the affluent or investers planning to rent their construction.

They have to save to afford the electricity rate increases in their future.

I have no doubt. In US in the middle part of the country you can buy a small, 800 sq ft livable home with a fenced in yard and decent middle class neighborhood for $30k-$40k. Or you can buy a 4000 sq ft home in a gated community for $1000000 or so. I'm sure Mexico has different budget options available. I doubt they are regulated to death.

I'm no expert in building houses. But as far as I know... they aint pouring a thing. They either glue pre made concrete blocks to each other... where the blocks could be the entire wall. They do have freezing weather, but they got plenty of time to not build in the winter. All that pre made business has to do with controlled environment makes a controlled product. The concrete is usually hollow, since trapped air makes a good insulation. That is besides that they probably build double concrete walls with insulation in between. Just look at the pic below. And see how far back the windows are in the wall.

And FYI... concrete doesn't crack in the winter. Concrete is a chemical process that actually causes heat when it becomes solid. The problem is when if freezes is that the water that is needed doesn't mix well enough to cause that chemical process to take part in the entire concrete mixture. You end up with, eventually when it thaws, little water drips in the concrete that is trapped and was needed for that chemical process elsewhere in the concrete. So the concrete ends up being just far more brittle than calculated.

    Top of my head.

I wonder how they hold up in earth quakes. Seems like you'd need a mesh of very long rebar to hold the blocks together.
