This would appear to be the US response to the 'humiliation' of having Iraqi civilians protesting the US killing of people in Iraq....and of course the result of the United States reneging on International Treaties.

The US has ordered its citizens to leave Iraq immediately - that will be if they can get out of the airport without being murdered by the US.

This is being reported as a very dangerous turn of events with the potential for dire consequenses

Sigh. Being an anti-war Libertarian, I have to read more about this unfolding situation to form a definitive opinion. I do think we should have been out of the Middle East years ago. Most of the issues over there have to do with 1) oil or 2) Israel, but Americans get the "story" that we are "protecting freedom and democracy" or "saving the world from terrorists".

Whatever the reasoning, this is likely to disrupt oil prices and make Israel a target of retaliation. Saudi Arabia and Iraq are likely very happy about this action. Perhaps it would have been better if Iraq had taken out the general.

I'm fairly ignorant about the Middle East, except broad generalities and what we get "fed". I'll just leave it at that for now.
