there is already a 60-foot wide easememt at the border. it was established by roosevelt in1907

this tired worn out childish slogan aside, truth has been spoken. the federal government owns every rock, cactus, and scorpion within 60 feet of the border. no land needs to be seized. no churches need to be bulldozed.

it is known as the "roosvelt reservation." you can see it to the left of the fence. problem solved. now let's get those d9s running!

americans are already forced to pay at least $200b per year for the care and feeding of our many many illegals.

1/40th of that sounds like a bargain to me.

    missing the point, intentionally perhaps?

roosevelt established a 60-foot wide easement in 1907, as a matter of fact. we the people own every rock, cactus, scorpion, and crack pipe within 60 feet of la frontera.

problem solved. big fat nothing berder here...

to be sure, a comprehensive approach is required. and a substantial physical barrier is a large component of that approach. we also need to enhance penalties for illegally entering and/or visa noncompliance, end birthright citizenship for the offspring of illegals, reserve public benefits (like medical care, education, financial assistance, etc.) for citizens and authorized residents only, prosecute abettors (like sanctuary jurisdictions and religious organizations), and prosecute employers who knowing hire persons not authorized to work in the country (which is every single illegal alien in our midst).

but in the meantime, a big beautiful wall will go a long way toward significantly restricting the flow of illegals who demonstrate with impunity they have no intention of respecting the laws of this sovereign nation.

Well if we the people own it and the majority of Americans oppose the wall I guess we are done with this Trump nonsense.

And I might add my neighbor has a twenty foot easement to access the lake along the edge of my property and that only allows him access but legally doesn't allow him to make any changes to the easement land.

Here, I looked up the Roosevelt proclamation. In fact it specifically prohibits construction On the easement land.

By the President of the United States of America.A PROCLAMATION.

    Whereas, it is necessary for the public welfare that a strip of land lying along the boundary line between the United States and the Republic of Mexico be reserved from the operation of the public land laws and kept free from obstruction as a protection against the smuggling of goods between the United States and said Republic;

Now, therefore, I, Theodore Roosevelt, President of the United States, do hereby declare, proclaim and make known that there are hereby reserved from entry, settlement or other form of appropriation under the public land laws and set apart as a public reservation, all public lands within sixty feet of the international boundary between the United States and the Republic of Mexico, within the State of California and the Territories of Arizona and New Mexico; and where any river or stream forms any part of said international boundary line, this reservation shall be construed and taken as extending to and including all public lands belonging to the United States which lie within sixty feet of the margin of such river or stream.

Excepting from the force and effect of this proclamation all lands which are at this date embraced in any level entry or covered by any lawful filing, selection or rights of way duly of record in the proper United States Land Office, or upon which any valid settlement has been made pursuant to law, an the statutory period within which to make entry or filing of record has not expired; and also excepting all lands which at this date are embraced within any withdrawal or reservation for any use or purpose to which this reservation for customs purposes is repugnant; Provided, that these exceptions shall not continue to apply to any particular tract of land unless the entryman, settler or claimant continues to comply with the law under which the entry, filing or settlement was made, or unless the reservation or withdrawal to which this reservation is inconsistent continues in force; Provided Further, that the said strips, tracts, or parcels of land, reserved as aforesaid, may be used for public highways but for no other purpose whatever, so long as the reservation of same under this proclamation shall continue in force.

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my band and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed.

Done at the City of Washington this 27th day of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and seven, and of the Independence of the United States the one hundred and thirty-first.

the president, congress, they do the peoples’ bidding. this president was elected partially on the position that he would secure the borders. seems the people have spoken.

but let’s take a step back. i’m just curious since nobody has yet to be able to make a sound argument against the wall...

why not a wall? what are the specific objections?

Or Trump could just fine employers who hire illegals.

Easy. One we already have seven hundred miles of barrier thst should be upgraded and evaluated begore spending more on locations of obviously secondary importance. Two Trump hasn't even bothered to spend the money already allocated. Three, it is bad policy to gihostage taking which is exactly what Trump is foing and giving in this time will onlynencourage him to take similar measures in the future when he needs to throw a temper tantrum. And finally of course this isn't going to fund his total wall nor is Mexico going to pay for it. And finally of course more wall is not going to solve the immigration issue because well over half the ilkegals are overstaying their visas. The wall doesn't deal with the illegals already here and it doesn't deal with the DACA kids or with the birthright citizenship issue.

And maybe as a last point there arguably are better more effective techniligical solutions to the rather small number of illegals a bit more wall might actually stop.

Oh and then there is the issue of government confiscating private land and of course the just ansolutly sheer ugliness of a wall/fence or whatever.

No fines are not enough since they just get passed on to the consumers. Fines and major jail time would solve the problem.
