Fewer than 700 miles of fencing exists.

The total length of the continental border is 1,954 miles.

Private property owners will defend their Constitutional rights and oppose federal confiscations of their land.

How do you rationalize that with the thousands of square miles of land confiscated for roads and lakes?

Why did Republicans, in control of both houses of Congress for two years, refuse to vote to give Trump his $5.7 billion for his wall that he had repeatedly promise Mexico would pay for and that most Americans do not want?

Why did Trump, with a far better chance of being given US taxpayers' money by the Republican-controlled Congress, wait those two years until Americans had elected a Democratically-controlled House to throw his tantrump and shut down the government, as he was "proud" to do, and vowed not to try to blame others?

We are discussing the prospect of Texans having their private property confiscated for Trump's wall that he repeatedly promised that Mexico would pay for and that most Americans do not want.

It is not for me to rationalize their reaction to the threat of mass seizure by the federal government. Eminent domain has always been a Big Government usurpation that conservatives have vehemently opposed but, of course, each instance varies according to the circumstances.

But you are the one who is making this an issue.
Who pays for it has nothing to do with "private property confiscated for Trump's wall. The issue of the wall remains the same. Is it right or is it wrong?

Makes me wonder where other countries get the land for their roads and other government projects.

Americans, who would be forced to pay for it, and most of whom oppose it, have "nothing to do with it"?

Remember, it was promoted as campaign hoopla with the assurance that Mexico would pay for it by a reality-tv performer with no expertise in border security. There are more effective, more efficient, and more economical methods, and experts to recommend them.

The State seizing property is antithetical to traditional conservative thinking.

"As Trump acknowledges, he is somewhat of a poster boy for the pitfalls of eminent domain because of a high-profile case involving his property."

Done frequently. We would not be the great nation we are without it.
You really like to distort things done't you? Who pays for the wall has nothing to do with imminent domain.
I keep hearing about all these sensors and modern technology which will be more effective. However, no one has actually explained how that is supposed to work. They ultimately coming down to having to chase them down on the US side of the border at great risk to the border agents and the illegals. Walls have worked for thousands of years. They continue to be built and the border agents themselves want more walls.

Nice try. That isn't a poll or any actual data about the people who's land is going to be seized to build Trump's wall. Try again. That smoke didn't fool anyone.

I mean one rancher, please. You can find one idiot to support anything. And he isn't even on the border!

Well it is a tiny bit of property that probably nobody would actually want to own. Maybe though Trump could develop it into a high rise if it wasn't on such a swampy piece of property.

And now we have seven hundred miles of border barriers and the problem still exists. Guess the difference between Democrats and Republicans is Democrats learn from their mistakes while Republicans keep repeating their stupidities.

no land need be confiscated. as stated previously, i’d be very surprised if easements do not already exist adjacent to the border. if they do not, they can be easily added to the plat. easements are ubiquitous and are a necessary fact of life in almost every city and town. we’re not talking about bulldozing granny’s house here to put up a shopping mall, we’re talking about a strip of land about 20 feet wide, and one that authorities already have access to... most likely due to, wait for it... an easement.

again, a big fat nothing berder here. much ado about nothing. pedantic histrionics so jim accosther can wet his pants and occasional-cortex can continue making an idiot of herself on youtube.

They threw out his Congress 69 seats in 2010 a year after he took office.

oh, and i hasten to add... the preposterous arguments set forth in the online article you cite are laughable... looking at just one: the la lomita chapel is THREE AND A HALF MILES north of the border. they claim first that theiir land is on danger of seizure?? and second building a wall violates their religious freedom?? wth!!

Trump defended his use of eminent domain.

“Eminent domain is something that has to be used,
usually you would say for anything that’s long,
like a road, like a pipeline or like a wall or a fence!”

67% of the property along the border is private. Trump would need to seize significant amounts of land from owners to build his wall.

Nor does Trump, in his fanatical desire to squander $5.7 billion of taxpayer money on his wall that most Americans do not want, allow religious rights to stop him. He is ready to sue churches to get his way:

History is always a convenient refuge when the immediacy of now proves inconvenient.

Most Americans do not want Trump's wall that he repeatedly promised Mexico would pay for, and their elected representatives in Congress have refused to give him their money for his unpopular scheme for the past two years.

That probably has as much or more to do with Trump himself than the wall. The wall or barrier or whatever makes sense.

How many miles does Trump plan, and how many private property owners has he targeted to impose his wall on most Americans who do not want it?

Most Americans consistently agree that Trump stinks, but they agree that his wall that he had repeatedly promised Mexico would pay for stinks as well.
