I see your point. I'm sure that when the conventioneers sat around the table the conversation probably went something like this:

Alexander Hamilton: "So what should the main purpose of this new, more powerful federal government be?"

William Paterson: "My wife Nancy told me to say JOBS, JOBS, JOBS, JOBS!"

John Dickinson: "Well of course, but how?"

Hugh Williamson: "What can we do that will employ the most people?"

    John Rutledge: "Pickin' cotton!"

Daniel Carroll: "But that only pays slave wages."

William Few: "We can afford that!"

George Washington: "What about an army? That employs a lot of people."

John Langdon: "But they be risking getting killed. Is that worth it?"

William. Blount: "At least they'll die employed"

Alexander Hamilton: "That's true, but we would need to have a ready supply of enemies to justify it."

    Robert Morris: "What about Muslims?"

    Benjamin Franklin: "Oh be serious!"

Robert Yates: "I won't sign off on such a scheme."

Yep, I'm sure it went just like that. :)

Part of the problem, Dasein, are liberals who wouldn't recognize a job if they saw one.

They (republicans) say "jobs" all the time when they say, "if you tax the rich jobs will go elsewhere", which is pure political posturing and government cronies blackmail threats directed at the working class who are under assault by republicans as we speak.

Republicans represent the upper 2% of the population and they hate the working class, which they believe are out to steal their income. What should be obvious after the last decade of these types of threats is that tax cuts haven't and will not create jobs. If anything tax cuts are funding the mass exodus of jobs going out of the country at a faster rate.

Republicans that run the GOP are not conservatives, can't say that enough these days, since people have been brainwashed into believing this silly nonsense for the last 30 years now.

So say this to yourself in the mirror every morning until it cracks through that tin foil hat you have developed from decades of political propaganda. Democrats are useless and republicans are not conservatives, and they are the problem. Repeat.

Well documented that cities with lower taxes entice businesses from high taxed cities to move to their city..creating wealth in that community.
States that TAX less get more of the same..Countries get the same reward.

Or you could look at Cities that taxed the most ..say DETROIT and have the highest welfare rolls.States like California ..and most of new England.

Higher taxes drive MONEY away.Money drives business..not UNIONS and certainly not welfare.Less Government intervention works over and over better than higher regulations and higher taxes.

You're right about democrats being the problem.

They sold their souls to the progressive/socialist agenda to hang onto any sort of power base.
Republicans are re discovering what made this country great..Conservative PRINCIPLES..not any 1 party or elected official.
So as you lie in bed thinking about that cracked mirror..wondering how to pay for $5 a gallon gas..no possibility of moving from your underwater house payment..Think back to Reagan ..then listen to this president.

Are you better off under this system?

Then reread your Union newsletter on how to attack anybody or anything that doesn't agree with you.

    1) Not when the wealth is overly concentrated. 2) What enticements to offer when taxes are zero? Free hookers?

Reagan raised taxes. So did Bush I. What they didn't do was control spending or pay off the debt and not steal from SS. Jobs are not being created, companies are simply moving to a better location, that fits their needs. I don't belong to a union, just a couple guilds.

Repubs are just as progressive as the Dems; they just "progress" in different areas. Have you looked at the surveys about which countries are considered the freest in the world? I'm not sure the US is even in the top 10 anymore. "Land of the Free" isn't even given lip service today.

Take off your partisan blinders. That pain in your backside ain't hemorrhoids! That's the donkey & elephant giving you a security search.

I guess if you can't deal with facts a wonderful childlike imagination is an alternative?

    or maybe that's just denial.

So you're actually saying the primary purpose of all these personnel-heavy departments of the federal gov't is employment, rather than to perform the service their titles imply?????

So is Anwar al Awlaki the world's greatest terrorist. So is Nidal Malik Hasan, MD., the Ft. Hood shooter. So is my neighbor Jaime Guevara who shoots people in the head when dope deals go bad.

I'm not interested in "beating" you at anything, though I do understand that the predominant culture here is for posters to pick a position and defend it to the death while flinging poo at anyone who dares approach. Personally, I'd rather find some common ground, though it's nowhere near as fun, and it's not something you can brag about to your buddies over cookies & milk.

I think it's understandable that you meant that, since when I opined that it's not the federal government's job to create jobs, you said,
Clearly implying that it is in fact the federal government's job to create jobs. Then you followed up, supporting your post with:
All snide comments and really creative fictional conversations aside, I think we can at least agree that an army is raised to fight or defend against an enemy, and any jobs created by it are incidental.

Fine let's take everyone on welfare and everyone receiving unemployment after 24 weeks and put them to work picking up trash, cleaning schools and public buildings, working at government hospitals and any other work we can put them to.

    Work for welfare!

You can always tell people who have never fought for their country.

How about you go down to your local barracks and tell the military men down there that they and their jobs are just "incidental".

(Make sure you take lots of photos if you do).
