I would ask PF members to start thinking strategically. Any realistic person with a working moral compass knows America faces a crisis on many critical fronts- economically, ideologically, socially, educationally, and of course in the decline of basic values. Where do you start to deal with this? Can we deal with this, and restore the functionality and strength of the nation- or is America lost?

I say- America is not lost, but many misguided ideas have got us in deep trouble, in a way never seen before. I think that will require a strategy to overcome, and that will be one never seen before as well. In most critical situations, there is a keystone, a point where changing one parameter changes all the others. The challenge is finding that keystone, the Achilles Heel of the situation, and then making it happen.

Over the years I've worked with a handful of people determined to find ways to restore integrity to both politics and people. It's covered a lot of ideas, but has produced a lot of insight and supports the concept of a single strategy producing broad success, peacefully. We are still in the process, but the need for a plan and action has increased to the critical point.

Fresh eyes and ideas are the tools that distill ideas into practical solutions. There are some pretty wise members here, some with substantial political savvy. We want your help!
PF members- tell me what you think could work!

America has chronic problems. I wouldn't call much of it a crisis really. If you want to start, a good place is to turn k-12 education back over to the local school districts. No Child Left Behind took a problem and made it ten times worse.

I would say the problem is ideology. Rigid systems of thinking that we see with both the left and the right are tearing us apart. Throw out political parties, destroy the ideologies of capitalism and communism/socialism, and focus on helping eachother out.

I think we have let human nature run this country for too long. The human ego is easy to trick, manipulate, and enslave in constructs such as the economy. None of it is real. Humanity is reaching a point where it is able to rise above the ego (human nature) that has kept us shackled in the past. I think this turning point is why we have seen so much chaos, increasing since the 1960s. Old social and economic ideas are falling apart, and we are ready to transition into something greater than political, economic, national, ethnic, and racial ideologies.

what all this will look like remains to be seen, but I think it will happen sooner rather than later.

Start by dismantling the federal department of education and end when the feds are back to maybe ten departments most of governance
needs to be devolved back to state And local levels

Americans are being taught to use their perceived slights as excuses to disparage America and any person or organization that disagrees with their emotion driven demands.

The cure is to eliminate that, with extreme prejudice.

Sometimes in life, you have to get dirty. Until that time comes, nothing will change. America is currently being run by emotional 8-year olds masquerading as erudite aristocrats - here, and everywhere.

Only five cabinet departments required - State, Defense, Treasury, Justice and Homeland Security. Everything else belongs in the states, the private sector or the trash can.

I wish I could disagree, but there are no grounds.
However what I'm hoping to see is some ideas on what kind of solution we might apply that could address it all- and soon enough to avert disaster. Big challenge.

I think that's getting closer to the sources of problems. But how to change it in time?

Reduce government's reach into virtually everything and the United States will improve in huge ways.

Our problem over the last few decades is an every growing, ever more powerful Federal Gov't that is picking winners and losers instead of the American people making those determinations.

If you really want to fix the nation, one Amendment will do it naturally.

    28th Amendment

Removing Corrupt Money Out of Politics and Returning Power to “We the People”

No money will be allowed to any political campaign, including propositions, or other ballot measures from any entity that is not a U.S. Citizen. Excluded from donating: corporations, special interest groups, unions, and any foreign entities. U.S. Citizens may only donate a total of $5,000 a year for all political donations and may only donate to political campaigns that affect their geography of residency.

All that aside! There is something to be said about the basics! Like hard work, self reliance and production/contribution to society. These are the values that are being lost and what is infecting this country..

We are complacent, our Governing body has been quick to sell off our production, manufacturing and quicker to compensate idle people for noncontributions. I honestly believe it MUST go full circle now, and will not be pretty for folks that bought in to less work and more leisure.. At some point the traditional will simply not be enough to support the nontraditional..

Another disease inflicting this nation is racial divide, as I have stated in some of my post that in "ALL MY YEARS" dating back to the early sixties I have never seen racial tension like we see today.. There is a odd attempt to push "In your face" Gay, Black, Latino, Trans and the list goes on and on in every facet of social media today.. Clearly this MUST BE designed to create groups, agitate and pit one against the other.. AGAIN in all my years I have not seen so much division being created and promoted, even political parties were NEVER like we see today. MPO, our Overlords are purposely keeping us at one another throats for, what can't possible be a good reason.. We are being set up, we are being distracted when we should all be much more open minded as to current affairs and what thing were like just 50 years ago and a nation..

In my case and many people I have known throughout my time on earth. we never gave two thoughts about Blacks, Browns, Gays, Dems, Repubs we just simply lived our lives doing the do 40 hours a week.. I'm sad to say that's not what I am today :( Todays world is all about forethought, everywhere you go you must constantly pick and choose your words, I'm always on the offensive in groups and always ready to defend against the butthurt person that takes everything people say in context that was never meant and now social interaction always ends in argument and never playful banter..

It's all just so sad really.. I'm fortunate, I mingle almost exclusively with people in low placed as Hank Jr puts it. We laugh, play and socialize in jest and when someone gets to weird/serious they are snapped back to reality :)

It's one thing to disagree, but it's another to hate, and that's something new today! If we don't ALL learn, recognize and work together once again our political system and those looking to control us will succeed and we all will suffer the fall, and what we have ALL worked to secure will be lost and the climb this time will be much harder if not impossible.. If you believe one side, race, gender will suffer more then yourself it's time you take a deep breath and snap out of it!!!

Limit executive orders as a way to govern.
Vote on all major bills, no longer accept that "we can't vote cause it won't pass". Make all congresspeople take a public stand on each major bill.
Make a sincere bipartisan attempt to look at government spending, as well as our tax structure, cut down on tac cheating to improve economic efficiency.
Hope that voters will put good for the country ahead of good for the party
Hope that voters will hold politicians responsible for spreading demonstrable lies.

In time to keep America from becoming the place we are currently headed to. Kind of like you took the wrong turn on a trip, and you are lost- and need to find a way back to civilization before you run out of gas.
The quality of life and condition of the nation depends on keeping a number of factors in good working condition. Economics alone; you simply can't spend yourself to prosperity.

Well when you can have men raping girls in bathrooms and it doesn’t even make Democrats skip a beat on wtf is going through their heads, that’s probably a good sign that they are simply irredeemable as critical thinkers…or any kind of thinker at all

Then it is just a matter of changing the administration to one that is pro business. That is likely to happen if I read the tea leaves correctly. Look what a pro business politician like Trump did simply by explaining that he is pro business. It was like a shot in the arm for the economy. Government can certainly hurt the economy but it can't really fix it. Trump didn't fix it either. He just got government out of the way. The business community fixed it. Government spending simply takes individual wealth and spends it on things that help the politicians. It can't help prosperity. Less government more prosperity.

I don't know. We have degenerated into a society where if we just explain to the other side why they are wrong and we are right, surely they will see the light. But, the other side surely isn't going to be able to explain to us why we are wrong because we know we are right and THEY are the ones who are wrong. All we need to be able to do is figure out a way to explain to them why they are wrong. And, meeting in the middle is stupid because we are right and they are wrong.

If that doesn't explain it to you then the best way to solve the problem is by getting rid of biased media and social media. I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Executive orders are intended to be aimed at the administration, not the private sector. Using them against the private sector is authoritarian.

A better approach is a single term limit for all lawmakers. It would give them more room to do what is right rather than what is politically expedient.

Give them a single term limit.

Voters are as self interested as politicians. That is why politicians are so successful at buying votes. Informing the public about the lies of politicians is the job of media, not the voters.

The left requires division to foist off it's power hungry agenda on the rest of us and thenmorefonely divided we are the better it is for them. Hince they are now empowering the mentally that don't even know what the are or who the are and using them to brow beat the gullible into submission.

I wish it were that simple. While I agree on the course Trump was on, it's obvious that a huge effort opposed that. Ultimately, government will never be better than what people will tolerate from it- good or bad.
The real need here is to find a way that affects the quality of government, and as a result affects the perceptions and values of our society. I do think that has to start at the top- but it has to create positive results on the street and in people of all positions. That's what makes it such a challenge.

Sometimes truth is painful- and you're not wrong. I don't think that's all of it, but it's sure as hell a big part of it.
But- How do you change that?

No question; we have a lot of people whose fundamental values have been turned upside down. I consider myself intuitive and very good at figuring out how people think, and I can't begin to figure out how rational people can allow that to happen to them.

I think you are looking at it backwards. What is needed is a shift in human consciousness, that then makes government change. I think we are in the midst of that, and that is why there is so much unrest.

The problem with the current shift is the direction. You don't reach higher goals by digging deeper holes- and that is creating part of the massive problems we must deal with.

we need a new direction. Not left, not right, but upwards. A shift in consciousness, where we look at everyone around us and only see ourselves. Capitalism and communism are both failed and unsustainable, both in terms of energy uses and in terms of peoples well being.
We have evolved technologically, but our consciousness is still centuries behind. We still live in the same systems of either exploiting eachother for profits or turning people into victims that need help. Both have failed, and are the reason why there is so much unrest.
