White Fragility.

The comedian, Chris Rock, gave us a simple way to reveal White privilege.
He said he has never been able to find a White guy who would agree to trade places with him, even though he is rich. Moral of the story: White skin gives inherent advantages and White people know it.

 

I'm going to invoke it to pay my internet bill and rent this month, after I get out of my tent, I will head to Micky D's and jump on the free Wi Fi and let you know how it worked out!

 

No we dont. Its a made up concept. It conveniently sets up whites as somehow inherently undeserving of success and allows the black community to blame shift. In reality blacks have institutional advantages that many whites dont. Preferential treatment in education, hiring, access to special business loans, housing programs, and the list goes on and on.

 

No that's advantage. if you want to pretend to the word privilege somehow means advantage I can play along.

I wonder if it's because simply an accusation of racism in the workplace could lead to being fired, or otherwise being unemployable. It's like accusing someone of being a witch. You don't have to prove someone's a witch, they have to prove their innocent, and who can do that?

That is what I would think, but Ms Diangelo does not consider that possibility. If you are unfortunate enough to be subjected to her sensitivity training say something like

"I am a White person in a racist society and am therefore racist. But I struggle daily against my racism and am improving, but I will have to struggle for the rest of my life."

White privilege is about more than money. Inherent advantages means white skin helps you in all areas of life.
