Actually, if you read Jefferson you will see that the purpose of the second amendment was to provide for citizens to have a way to defend themselves against a government gone out of control. Luckily, our government has never gotten that far out of control and, perhaps, it is due in part to the second amendment. The major threat to our freedom, by the way, is the U.S. congress.
If gun control is patriotic then so is hanging the Ten Commandments in the courthouse. You can't monkey with the Bill of Rights all willy-nilly and deny other people the freedom to do the same. So on behalf of all Christians, I'd like to thank you for giving up your "separation of church and state" argument. Because even if you didn't mean to, that's basically what you've indirectly done here.
Which is the exact point, leftists want to control everything about our lives, our liberties are a barrier that must be overcome by whatever means. And there are many who would allow them to have that control.
I think the OP is correct. What we need is to shame and humiliate the NRA and its gun culture by showing how unpatriotic it is. Basically the NRA is an organization that empowers terrorists who hate America and its values. The Left needs to stop (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)footing around with the NRA and go after its fake patriotism and obvious hatred of law and order and democracy. All the NRA and gun culture wants to do is arm criminals and terrorists. It's what it is all about.
I'm not exactly a fan of the NRA because of its partisanship, but supporting gun rights in and of itself isn't "terrorism". It's very illogical to demonize guns, because how they're used by an individual is what is relevant rather than the fact that they can kill. If we judged every possible instrument that can kill the way that some people are judging guns, there would be calls to ban steak knives too.

Well, I'm not aware of the specifics, but if you're saying that the SS doesn't allow sharp dinnerware at the President's events, then I think that's probably more of a security issue than a "right to defend yourself" one. It's like having sharp objects on a plane.

How does it empower terrorists and criminals? Gun control inadvertently does that by increasing the illegal market for weapons. Terrorists and criminals have more power over an unarmed public than an armed one.

If you don't believe in the individual right to keep and bear arms that is protected by our founding document you are not patriotic by any means of the word. Guns are also a large part of what makes us American culturally. If you don't want to be around guns, leave the country. We won't miss you.
What about when you're shot in the neck and paralyzed for life by a gunman ... like one of the Colorado massacre victims ... how does she leave the country because she's against guns now ?
