Why Japan has practically no gun violence

On what grounds?

 

Them being illegal.

 

Except that law enforcement can’t take away guns unless criminals are arrested for an offense. Meaning there are plenty of criminals who aren’t yet known by law enforcement. So how does law enforcement take away the guns of unknown criminals? Real life isn’t like the movie Minority Report.

 

No diversity in Japan.

 

Well if we could change the race of all Americans to Japanese, our problem is solved. You should understand that Switzerland's murder rate is nearly as low as Japans and their gun laws are similar to our (perhaps a little more lax). It isn't the guns, it is the people. You cannot legislate monsters into decent human beings. Do away with guns and they will start knifing each other to death like they do in London.

Banning guns will bring violent revolution. If you want to get rid of guns, you would first have to stop making movies/video games/music that glorify guns/gun violence. You would then need to start propagandizing children in the schools to hate guns. This is what you are doing to make kids hate white people/America and to love cross dressing/gay sex so you clearly know how to do this.

Americans can't become Japanese, if that is what you are saying, but, as the video points out, there is a lot we can learn from them.

For me, they prove conclusively that the 2a-ers' contention that the solution to the gun problem is more guns, is pure bullshit.

No one is suggesting banning guns in toto. They allow shotguns and air rifles in Japan. But, as the video states, though there are cultural differences, Japanese don't have a hunting culture like we have, and, of course, Americans cannot become Japanese, there is a lot we can learn from them. For me, they prove, conclusively, that the gun lobby's contention that the solution to gun violence is more guns is pure bullshit.

How do you make it where "there are no guns to be had"? They are precisely the group that will not give up their guns.

 

Yes. We can learn disarmed populations are often abused, subjugated, and killed with impunity. And that societies that blindly accept authority can go from pacifist, to horrifically violent, back to pacifist on the whim of the authorities. Our founders understood that danger.

We don’t have a gun problem. We have a culture problem. But we as a society don’t want to change the societal issues. Instead, it’s easier to blame inanimate objects. I refuse to project failings of cognizant beings onto inanimate objects.

The idea our problems with lack of inhibition and lack of personal accountability can be solved by removing guns is absurd.

You are right. All those rich people should not employ poor people.

 

It would also increase unsolved deaths. Making the gun illegal makes home defense illegal. Now the body of the dead invader has to be dumped. All that connects you to them is they picked your house to rob. You are not in their life. So after defending your life from them, instead of calling the cops and being put in prison for saving your life, you dump the body and it will go unsolved. Since the guns are illegal, making an illegal silencer won’t matter. Making them automatic won’t matter either. Come to think of it, since the guns are all illegal and the prison time would be coming anyway, making bombs to defend your illegal arsenal would not matter much in the long run either.

But back to the subject at hand, lots of unsolved homicides with no links to their family, friends or enemies. Killing a burglar and dumping the body would be like Strangers On A Train.

So, who is out to ban guns ?

 

Blowing an intruder's brains out is a Republican's wet dream. They don't even have the mess cleaned off the walls until all their friends and family have a chance to see it.

 

Most republicans would wet their pants if an intruder broke in, just like everyone else.

 

I know about about 10 households that are armed and none of them would wet their pants. But what you can be assured of is the intruder will not leave alive. Castle Doctrine insures as a home owner your conscience is free and clear. The LAST thing you want is the intruder living or leaving. The former Seal who taught my concealed carry class was quite upfront in telling everyone that you don’t let the intruder leave your home no matter what. Just don’t shoot when they’ve passed the threshold. My cop friends have bestowed similar advice.

And if you remove a certain Demographic from the murder numbers, the rate really isn’t too bad.

 

Also note that there were around 10k gun murders in the US in 2018. Japan had 20,000 suicides in 2019. So...perspective. Note how much smaller a country Japan is.
