Will Trump's loyal base stay with him now?

That makes no sense. What you are saying is that the Republican Party won the Senate, House, governors, and state legislatures because the 63 million who voted for Trump joined with Clinton and they all voted for Democrats. Wheee!

You got that all wrong. It should read, "If Trump is now embracing the Democratic agenda," because that is exactly what is happening. That is the whole point of this discussion. Haven't you been following along?

Trump is embracing liberal viewpoints. I have mentioned several. Read.

All of a sudden? Where have you been? We've been attacking Republicans in congress for 5 years, at least 5 years for me. I gave them 2 years to stop barry's agenda and they failed miserably, they even enabled him. Get real. Question to you what is your end game here, what do you want to hear? Like others said Trump is no Ideologue, if he gets half of what he's promised it will be a win.

Unfortunately, those are all "if's." On the other hand, if you have following along, I have pointed out that Trump has now changed and he now has a liberal persona. I have provided the liberal policies he has now endorsed. They are not "if's."

You can forget his conservative agenda which is stated in your "if's." With the exception of Gorsuch, none of those things you mentioned have been accomplished. They are all on your wish list.

That is a marvelous imagination you have. You are a legend in your own mind.

Aw, the old Soros thing again. So, if someone is effective at pointing out that Trump is totally incompetent and has no core beliefs of his own, than that someone must be being paid. I appreciate the compliment, but this is a labor of love. I detest Trump, and, if I show it, so be it. Really sorry about that.

But you have not been following along. I detest Trump for what he is doing to my party. He is tearing the Republican Party apart. I doubt Soros would pay someone for lamenting about all the damage done to the GOP.

I have received a lot of abuse for being critical of Trump. The polite labels given me by Trump fans are lefty, liberal, and Democrat. I am very much amused that now these same Trump fans are supporting a lefty, a liberal.

Well Sandy, voters are given two choices. A Republican or a Democrat. (The third parties are too small to win). And for a number of reasons, a lot of people have swung towards the Republicans. They are turned off by the progressives, their gender and racial politics, they can't afford their health insurance, they are tired of unnecessary and foolish military adventures like Syria and Libya, they don't approve of uncontrolled illegal immigration, they're tired of getting screwed in trade deals, they're tired of the breakdown in law and order, the Hillary Clinton toxicity, and more. So you see, there has been a backlash against Democrats, and they have expressed that by electing Republicans.

But by every poll I've ever heard of, Congress gets an approval rating in the single digits. So we can deduce that voters are really choosing the lesser of two evils. Just because they are electing Republicans to these offices doesn't mean they're in love with them.

Ha! You accuse Trump of liberalism because he didn't want to hesitate on hurricane relief, and so he put off the damn debt ceiling debate. That debate will come back, and what are Republicans going to do about the debt ceiling? And what liberal would rescind Obama's EO on DACA? Please tell me. Hillary? Bernie? How about Jeb Bush? Nope. But Trump rescinded it, and he gave Congress time to do its damn job. Oh, the poor Republicans in Congress .... being forced to do their jobs!

Ha! A nationalist president wouldn't give a speech at the U.N.? What the ... Where is that written into the Nationalist Handbook?

"Liberal conversion", "supporting a liberal" ... Lol! Ask Pelosi if Trump is a liberal (Wait ... that might be a little too deep for her).

Trump ran as a Republican, but he is the closest thing to an Independent as we've ever seen. I told you this before, Sandy.... You should spend less time bashing Trump. If you are such a staunch Republican as you claim, you should be spending time figuring out why the electorate flipped that middle finger at the Republican Establishment in 2016. Why was the electorate so disgusted with Establishment Republicans? That's what you need to be focusing on and figuring out. The electorate got tired of asking, "Can you hear me now?" So they finally said, "CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?"

    Sure, Sandy ...

I haven't seen anyone call you a lefty. Your present divisive taunting is reminiscent of Marxist tactics, however, despite whatever you think or claim to be.

The "Independents" have done OK with that tag for years, but I suppose Republican/Democrat moderates could use a more clear label to help out rigid literalists like yourself. Maybe they will eventually evolve into the "Middle" party...Republicrats? Demipubs? Who knows? I'm certain the media will eventually think of something, probably derogatory.

It's actually simpler to just realize the American people really, really want Congress to begin representing all of them, and the good of this country and all of the people in it, and are willing to support anyone that seems able to facilitate that goal. You are making the whole thing way too complicated.

Trump is a catalyst, not a rigid position taker. He is not a hard liner or ideologue. He hasn't shifted anything, because except on the core of a very few issues there's nothing to shift.

He can be trusted to be human, though. He's actually a fairly decent human being that doesn't want to see others suffer. If Congress doesn't come up with some sensible, humane solutions to such things as DACA and Obamacare, IMO they will find themselves very much on Trump's blacklist...and everyone will know exactly who blew it, because he will tweet it all to the whole universe. No more doing dirty deeds in secret as long as Trump is on the job.

No. The "dysfunctional bozos" are those in both parties, folks whose main concern seems to be getting re-elected.

As to where this places Trump supporters, as I keep telling you, they're interested in what Trump promised to get done. A good indication of how the President is doing can be found in his first 100 day action plan. (And no, I'm not avoiding anything. I'm not interested in the Republican / Democrat BS posturing, I'm interested in seeing to it that tasks are accomplished. Period. Again, in line with how President Trump operates...).

Well let's review what you said.

Trump lost no time shifting to the left on policy matters. Since his outrageous rant on Charlottesville, he has gone completely silent on extremists. No more racist, white supremacist remarks from him. He has frozen his own ban on transgenders in the military; there will be no action taken. He has sided with the Democrats on the Dreamers. He made a deal with the Democrats so that their ideas on the debt limit and avoiding a government shutdown became law, despite the Republican majority in Congress. The deal passed because the Democrats wanted to tie those two issues to disaster relief for Irma and Harvey, and the Republican President agreed, much to the chagrin by members of his own party.

Trump invited a bipartisan group of moderate House members to the White House on Wednesday to discuss a host of issues, including tax reform, infrastructure and health care. Most were Democrats, four Republicans and eight Democrats. Tonight Trump is having dinner with "Chuck and Nancy" as he calls them, meaning Chuck Schumur, Democratic minority leader in the Senate; and Nancy Pelosi, Democratic minority leader in the House.

Yes, the President has spoken to Democrats. So what? Has he changed his position on any one of the substantive issues I mentioned? Let's go through the list, shall we?
    • Is President Trump still interested in building a wall along the southern border?
    • Is President Trump still interested in getting the economy going?
    • Is President Trump still interested in keeping jobs from leaving the country?
    • Is President Trump still interested in appointing solid justices like Neil Gorsuch?
    • Is President Trump still interested in getting rid of the crappy Obamacare system and replacing it with something more affordable and workable?
So which of these do you now answer "no" to? Be specific.

Please let me know when you start supporting President Trump, so I know when to start opposing him. :)

Seth, you omitted a key point of my post. I also said, "And now you are telling me that Trump voters were in revolt against the Republican Party. That makes no sense. What does make sense is that people voted for Trump based on what he stood for in the campaign, conservative principles and American First nationalism. What makes sense is that Trump changed his mind. He now has liberal tendencies and a globalist view of the world."

I find it fascinating that Trump supporters are now attacking the Republican Party. Trump supporters are now engaging in a liberal activity. Two weeks ago, being a liberal was tantamount to devil worship. Not any more. You are attacking the Republican Party.

No, I accuse Trump of making a deal with the Democrats to tie the debt limit to disaster relief instead of a clean bill for disaster relief. His own party sharply disagreed, but Trump wanted a liberal view on the debt limit. He now favors the liberal view of eliminating the debt limit altogether.

Yes, I agree. He has proven that he is an independent who leans to the left. In effect, he misled his base. He ran as a conservative, often times as a bigoted conservative (see the OP) and his base loved him for it. Now he is a liberal, embracing the liberal view on tax reform, Dreamers, debt limit, etc., etc.

He was elected by a small minority of the electorate (27%) because 90 million Americans made the incredibly stupid decision to stay home on Election Day. Another ten million wasted their vote on a third party. That is 40 million more votes than Trump received. Trump was so bad as a candidate even Hillary got nearly three million more votes than he did.

    Get over it, Sandy.

There was no deception. Those who voted for Trump knew what they wanted and voted for him. Only rigid ideologues don't understand what is going on.

You also said, "Liberals are decent people that want fairness for everyone."

Never mind your obsession with Marxism, it is my understanding that you are highly sympathetic to liberalism.

Now that we have that settled we can move on.

Yes, they knew what they wanted, but Trump isn't delivering on what they wanted. He promised and his base wanted "American First" nationalism. They now have a globalist Democrat. He promised and his base wanted to deport the Dreamers. Now he wants to provide them a path to citizenship. He promised and his base wanted fiscal scrutiny. Now he wants to abolish the debt limit. His base voted for a conservative because that is what he preached. Now they have a liberal and he is making deals with the Democrats.

That is my whole point. What his base wanted, they aren't getting.

But, you know what, his base stays with him anyway. His base seems totally unaware of the fact that they have been had. Trump is a lifelong Democrat and he is returning to his roots. His base simply doesn't care. Trump is their hero. Nothing will change that.

It is a very interesting political phenomenon, and it is largely due to fact that his base remains largely uninformed.

    You know that.

Sandy, the rebellion of ordinary Republican voters against the Washington Republican establishment didn't just start two weeks ago. It started last year on Day One of Trump's candidacy.

And according to a recent Rasmussen poll, voters overwhelmingly support the quick action on hurricane relief.

Here's an idea for ya, Sandy. How about if the Republican House actually creates a budget, sends it to the Senate, holds their reconciliation meetings, and actually passes a budget. That's the job of Congress.

The Republicans have proven that they can't get anything done on their own, Sandy. There has got to be some involvement of the Democrats which means some compromise. The vast majority of Americans want Congress to compromise and get things done.

You are implying that the 90 million people who stayed home were "incredibly stupid" because they could have given Hillary the win if they had voted. Is that what you wanted, Sandy. President Hillary Clinton?

You cannot make the assumption of sympathy just because of understanding. I do not support empty headed bleeding hearts that consider remedies without considering long term effects. That is what has led to our useless welfare class and a 70% illegitimacy rate in the black portion of our population, not to mention the excessive reproduction of nonproductive dysfunctionals.

Your thought processes are not typical among Republicans. Most of them understand true logic.

Like me, his base has different priorities than partisan labeling and flame baiting divisiveness.

The propagandist media's performance since the election (and even before) has been nothing but an irresponsible and relentless flame bait. If there were a God, surely he would have descended by now and cast them all out. In its absence, Trump is doing his best by pointing out their invalidity. There are, of course, a few unfortunates like yourself that have not only taken the bait, but swallowed swallowed it, hook, line, and sinker. If you are having digestive problems I would definitely have your stomach Xrayed, if I were you.

Trump will get whatever he is able, as well as he is able. We don't expect one lone individual to be able to tilt the entire universe immediately. However, anyone that understands judo knows you don't win against odds like that without a few unusual tactics.

Trump has been saying for years that things have not been going in the right direction. That part is not going to change at all. He committed himself when he ran.

In his most stunning deal yet with Democratic leaders, Donald Trump agreed on Friday to be impeached by the end of 2017.

Emerging from an Oval Office meeting with Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, a beaming Trump touted the deal for his imminent removal from office.

“Chuck and Nancy and I got a deal done on impeachment,” Trump said. “It was a good deal and it was a fast deal.”

Trump said that the Democrats had convinced him that agreeing to be impeached would make him soar in popularity. “People are going to love me for doing this,” Trump said. “They’re going to love it on all the channels.”

In a barb aimed at House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Trump said that the impeachment agreement was something he “never could have gotten done” with the Republican leadership.

"I went around and around with the Republicans for months on health care,” he said. “This meeting with Chuck and Nancy took, what, five minutes, and I could get back to watching TV.”

Hoping to capitalize on their momentum, Pelosi and Schumer said that they would meet with Trump next week to discuss the ouster of Vice-President Mike Pence.

I don't need to hear anything. For months I have joined with conservatives and Republicans in critiquing Trump. I have been called a lefty, a liberal, a Democrat, and those are the polite names assigned to me by Trump fans.

Trump fans are staying with their hero. I am absolutely delighted that they are now supporting a lefty, a liberal, and a Democrat. It is all very amusing.

They are making all kinds of excuses, bipartisanship, crossing the aisle, getting things done, etc. The fact remains Trump is making deals with the Democrats and his party, the Republican Party, strongly disagree with what he is doing. He has adopted the liberal viewpoint on several issues which I have mentioned. Trump fans, like you, are even rejecting Trump's party now, but they refuse to admit they are leaning toward the Democrats.

They are in the "middle." :roflol:I'm loving every minute of it.

Which is another way of saying he has no core beliefs. That is true. Before he was swinging with the Republicans. Now he is swinging with the Democrats. He'll probably change back. I don't know. Maybe not. After all he is a lifelong Democrat.

That is a huge "IF." He has already broken many of the promises he made to his base. Also, it is Democratic goals he is reaching for now. I have explained that part.

IMO Soros is probably not a leftist, but uses their ideals to further his own ends. I have no doubt that he has some operatives that are as amoral as he is.
