I've felt for a long time that American civilization, and it's role as a great power, is on a long, irretrievable decline. A democracy can't work if the military is an unelected branch of government with it's own powers. It doesn't have any per the constitution, but if they do stuff and no one stops them, then they can just assume the same sort of powers that militaries in third world nations have.

If you recall last year a story came out that the military was lying to the President about our forces in Syria, reporting fake numbers and keeping troops in that he had ordered to leave.

In October 2019, Trump ordered the withdrawal of US troops from northern Syria — a decision controversial among lawmakers, defense officials and diplomats.

Pentagon officials convinced the president to leave approximately 200 troops behind to protect oil fields in the country’s east that were at risk of falling under ISIS control, Jeffrey said.

However, the real number of troops in northeast Syria is “a lot more than” the 200 Trump agreed to leave behind, Jeffrey said, with some officials putting the number as high as 900.

The left is running the government now and they approved of this just as they are approving these revelations about Benedict Milley. I imagine that unless this is handled, with real consequences (Milley being court-martialed) this is going to be a permanent feature of our government.

 

I would pay money to watch those hearings. I hope Schumer puts Marco in charge of putting together a bi partisan Democratic controlled committee. We need those hearings live ad in color.

 

No. The oath is to the Constitution and country, not the position/person. And, NO officer EVER has to follow an unlawful directive. Never. But, that's not even in question here because Trump didn't give him an order.

Look at all the people Trump has fired because they weren't willing to say there was widespread election fraud. Of course, that's going to put Milley in a precarious position. Trump has never been the "stable genius" he thinks he is in his own mind. Everybody in Washington has been on the edge of their seats for over 4 years now because he's always on a rampage.

However, this should be investigated but he didn't act disgracefully, not if he acted in the best interest of our country and our people.

I know all calls, emails and snail mail are kept and catalogued so *somebody* disclosed this at some point. But, you're right, I shouldn't have written it that way because it's not clear how this came to the book writer's knowledge.

I wonder if the COMPLETELY DORMANT 1/6 commission will now subpoena Milley? Certainly, he has insider knowledge of T****'s state of mind around 1/6...

Yeah, I saw that too.... Much like with when DFG Flynn committed a clear violation of the Logan Act, it's not the fact that he's allowed to communicate with (future) counterparts, it's what is said and when...

DFG Flynn's was illegal based on what and when.

Milley's was very disturbing... It certainly doesn't rise to treason like the sillies are going for, but it's something that might need to be addressed in some way...

OTOH, if we had somehow launched some attack and Milley DID call to warn China, that might be a different story, although I'm not sure all of us would be alive to noodle it out..

 

As someone living on this planet I am rather glad that there are safeguards. All I can say is that Trump must have looked pretty unhinged.
