The death of 17 year old Trayvon Martin has become a media sensation as more people learn the sketchy details of the case. A man stalked him, then chased him down, started a physical altercation and then shot him. The police refused to arrest or charge him for it claiming that he acted in self-defense by getting out of a car and shooting an unarmed teenager who went to a store to get snacks. Well, this isn't the first time that "stand your ground" has been used to justify homicide. Dooley was required to go to court to prove that he acted in self-defense.
Yep. Once ENOUGH people are struck by sorrow and tragedy in this nation; after enough people have senselessly and horribly DIED from gun-related STUPIDITY... the laws WILL change. But that is a matter of time; it may take years and years and thousands of deaths... but something WILL ultimately change. America is literally INSANE about guns and self defense. And that won't change until murder and manslaughter hits the doorsteps of MANY MORE people.
Sorry, but the chances of you getting around the Constitution were shut down by the final USSC ruling in McDonald vs City of Chicago and your chances of getting the 2nd amendment abolished or modified are absolutely zero for at least 100 years because anti-gun activists still do not control 3/5ths of the State Legislatures. yeah, like a century. Too bad, civil rights are superior regardless of social consequences. You may just have to accept that our Founding Fathers accepted that alot of bad (*)(*)(*)(*) may happen in our society, but that is the price you pay for having a free society.
Life is a civil right, is it not? And when they were writing up the Declaration of Independence, I believe there is a reason they listed life before liberty. Surely they are both important, but which do you think is more important to preserve? A small glimpse perhaps, into a true libertarian society in which government is powerless, regulations are deregulated into irrelevancy, and individuals have absolute liberty as far government is concerned, so much liberty in fact that they are allowed to deprive the liberty of other individuals. Somehow I doubt that that is something the founding father would look upon and think "Good job protecting liberty by giving individuals the liberty to deprive it." Either way, I certainly don't have to accept that that is what we will become, and if there is truly anyone who would accept living in a society like that then I feel sorry for them. -Meta
Where is the sense of perspective? Even if the facts of this case bore out the claims of some (which I doubt) dozens of young African-American men are gunned down every day by other young African-American men and nobody raises a peep. Incidents like this get a lot of attention because they are a case of "man-bites-dog" - very unusual and exotic.
... and NOT ONE of those African-American Men are EVER allowed by Police to go home with their weapons after a Shooting ... So what part of this FACT are having difficulty understanding?
How many have a conversation with the police right after they've shot and killed someone and get to go home with the murder weapon the same day? I ask, because I don't know the answer to that myself, but it kinda seems like you do...
Yep, the gun grabbers always use a tragedy to advance their anti-liberty agenda. Yet you could always carry in Vermont which must be a bastion of violence and Chicago, where handguns are banned must be a paradise of peace.
I don't speak in code words. If somebody threatens me and I defend myself vigorously enough that the one threatening me is killed, that is by no definition murder.
Here's the problem, if Florida allows Open-season on Suspicious People, then guess what? Guns can be bought by anyone and Suspicious People claims are subjective ... because it will be The Wild Wild West. ... and 9 time out of 10 ... it's the Criminals who are the professionals.
I know there are about 20 threads on Trayvon - but we still don't know the details as yet. If Trayvon chose to 'front' that dude, then he did something stupid to someone stupid, and the case isn't as cut and dried. The details will be key.
Not if go by the raging gun nut views on this forum. As you need a gun, because everyone in america is a "murdering thug or rapist" Or so the pro gun forum members tell me. And when that is the view towards one owns countrymen. America will never be allowed to diarm.
I don't know about 'diarming' or anything, but parsing your wish as "America will never be allowed to disarm" is cute, considering that anyone who doesn't wish to carry a gun won't, and those who do - will. That's what freedom is, American style. Don't like it? Get out.
If I'm facing someone with three, I'm free until I run out of bullets. Your stupid post...is trumped.
Big tough americans don't need bullets. Bullets are for liberals. Use your gun like a club, like a real man.
