It's just an example of Democratic socialism.

The fact that you glaze over because you can't accept the truth is not really frustrating to me. It's amusing. I wondered how people would be hoodwinked into socialism again. I just never imagined it would be as stupid as slapping an adjective on it.

Go on trying to convince idiots that mashed potato socialism is so very much different than socialism. I'll continue laughing at you.

No, it really isn't. At least not how it would unfold in the U.S. Venezuela's main problem isn't socialism, it's the fact that it is a petro-economy completely tied to the price of oil, so continuing your Chicken Little rants about Uncle Bernie wanting the U.S. to become more like Venezuela is comical as the U.S. economy is as varied as one can potentially be, and not tied to any one commodity.

Oh so you need what capitalism built to pilfer to make it a proper socialism.

The problem with Venezuela is absolutely socialism they didn't do anything to develop any other industry because petrochemical was enough. It's how it has unfolded numerous times I don't believe the United States has a magical land of spells and fairies but somehow is going to avoid this.

and you can insist that there's a difference between mashed potatoes socialism and socialism but it's all socialism.

Oh, please--Sanders worked at various laboring jobs before age 40. Why not focus on his screwy ideas instead of making up stuff?

You should shut down bread lines in favor of what? I would provide those too old, too young, or too sick with money; everyone else would get workfare.

Most Democrats think Maduro is a thug and reject government collectivizing production. You're spouting bullsh't.
You're confusing income redistribution with collectivizing production, the latter being socialism.
Who are you talking about? All general taxes include the possible use of force. Are you saying we shouldn't collect taxes for for national defense? What about taxes for police?

Well Roy, I'm a capitalist. what our economy is based in the US. Characteristics that define socialism is not going to fit your political mentality or agenda so buckle up. Redistribution of wealth is a major difference between socialism and capitalism. Socialism advocates for common ownership of the means of production and for strong government involvement in the economic processes and in the redistribution of wealth.

    "What is Socialism?
Socialism is an economic system where the means of production, such as money and other forms of capital, are owned by the state or public. Under a socialist system, everyone works for wealth that is in turn distributed to everyone. Under capitalism, you work for your own wealth. A socialist economic system operates on the premise that what is good for one is good for all. Everyone works for their own good and for the good of everyone else. The government decides how wealth is distributed among the people.

In a pure socialist economy, there is no free market like we see in a capitalist nation. The government provides for the people. The taxes are usually higher than in a capitalist system. There may be government-run health care and a complete system of government-operated education. It is a misconception that people do not pay for these services. They do pay for them through higher taxes. Socialist systems emphasize equal distribution of wealth among the people."

During WWII individual tax rate actually peaked at 94% it has fluctuated over the years but since about 1980 it has gone down. Don't confuse this with corporate tax rates. I know that may be confusing for you but they are not the same.

There has never been a time in the USA when a business could not relocate out of the country or expand globally that I am aware of. *Please furnish any fact to support otherwise*.

Free college tuition is plain stupid and shows ignorance on the part of any voter dumb enough to believe that the government is EVER going to pay for free college tuition for all. Presidential hopefuls that expound utopian garbage like this to stupid people will never fulfill their ridiculous promises.
I paid my own way through university. I worked summers and had jobs during school. I received NO government aid or assistance and had not scholarships. University education is no doubt expensive. If we lived in utopia maybe college would be free but you wouldn't really need college then since someone else would do all your thinking for you.

Maduro is a collectivist and Hitler was a fascist, not a socialist.

Never mind that there is not one purely "socialist" economy or government on the planet save maybe North Korea. All others are points on a curve, and no one on the left is advocating the NK model.

You all are building strawmen faster than Trump can hire illegal dishwashers.

Pure democracy, Pure communism or Pure socialism all amount to the same, Utopia. Unfortunately as much as some would like the ignorant to believe, it is not achievable and never will be anywhere on the planet.

How is that speculation? Like it or not, you already live in a hybrid socialist/capitalist society attempting to use the best of both to create a more perfect union. Bernie is advocating for more of the former. Nowhere is he abandoning the latter.
