You seem to have skipped the first part of the passage:

Remember thy Lord inspired The Angles with the message ....

Skipped right past verse 4 ....

But the treaties are not dissolved with those Pagans with whom Ye have entered into alliance and who not have subsequently failed you in aught, nor aided anyone against you. So fulfil your engagements with them to the end of their term: for God loveth the righteous.

    Actually the correct translation is:

Oh Prophet! Stive hard against the Unbelievers and Hypocrites, and be firm against them. Their abode is Hell-- an evil refuge indeed.

    Again the correct translation....

O Ye who believe! Fight the Unbelievers who gird you about and let them find firmness in you: and know that God is with those that fear him.

    A bit of context ...

The punishment of those that wage war against God and His Apostle, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or excile from the land. That is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter.

A bit less dramatic but more in context....

Thus does God set forth for men their lessons by similitude. Therefore, when Ye meet the Unbelievers in fight, smite at their necks; at length, when you have thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly on them. Thereafter is the time for either generosity or ransom.

Why didn't you also include the following verse, 8:61 ...

But if the enemy inclines towards peace, do thou also incline towards peace and trust in God; for He is the One that heareth and knoweth all things.

They are striving rather than fighting, but why quibble at this point.

A little context and attention to detail kind of removes the drama.

( Translations and annotations by Abdullah Yusuf Ali, 1934 )

And if a Muslim happens to murder one person, would you see that as terrorism, too?

I'm a Sunni Muslim . I'm not sure if I've understood your question but prophet Mohammed was an illiterate person, so he didn't know writing.
we don't have the right to kill people because of their religion ..

The Prophet (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said, "Whoever killed a Mu'ahid (a person who is granted the pledge of protection by the Muslims) shall not smell the fragrance of Paradise though its fragrance can be smelt at a distance of forty years (of traveling).

Allah says : " And fight in the cause of Allah against those who fight against you, but do not transgress. Surely, Allah loves not the transgressors."

In fact, I know that Japanese Army made terrible crimes, but what did citizens of Hiroshima and Nagasaki do to be killed in that way ?! ha ?! what's the crime of women and children ?
In your logic, people have the right to kill innocent American citizens as a revenge of their government crimes .

by your help I can better at history, right ?

Looks like all the Islamic killing each other in Iraq and A-Stan won't be in your heaven.

Especially the scum of the earth who leave mines and IED's that kill little children and villagers.

Oh did I really ? When then let's just show the whole thing, and show the subsequent verses as well:

"Remember thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): "I am with you: give firmness to the Believers: I will instil terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them."

Pure out and out hatred, hostility, aggression, genocide.

    Now, for the next verses:

8:13 "This because they contended against Allah and His Apostle: If any contend against Allah and His Apostle, Allah is strict in punishment."

So if you're not a Muslim, you get strict punishment. Yup. Standard Islam.

8:14 "Thus (will it be said): "Taste ye then of the (punishment): for those who resist Allah, is the penalty of the Fire."

8:15 "O ye who believe! when ye meet the Unbelievers in hostile array, never turn your backs to them."

Yeah, nothing like some good old-fashioned "context", to get the full flavor of Muslim genocide.

Nice whitewash attempt though. You get E for effort.

This sickening turd pile of words makes MY case, not yours.

Yet another example of Muslim aggression, killing, terrorism, again, adding strength to MY point, not yours.

Because EARTH TO FLAMING MODERATE: Throwing in a few nice verses here and there doesn't mean that the horrific, genocidal verses (which brought about 270 million innocent people killed over 1400 years), just goes away. Read the US Constitution some time. It's ALL good. Not good AND bad. Get it ?

Upon WHAT do you base the notion that your translation is one iota more accurate than the Dawood translations I posted ? (which are the same as the Shakir, Pickthall, Ali, and Arberry translations as well.) Just trying to look smart ?

    How about this one :

    Koran 4:34

"Men have authority over women because God has made the one superior to the other, and because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because God has guarded them. As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and forsake them in beds apart, and beat them." (Koran 4:34, "Women," Dawood, p. 83)

As with the others all 5 translations I cited are the same, except the Pickthall (a convert to Islam) translation, which says "scourge them" (beat with a whip), which is even worse.

There's plenty of attention to detail, and "context" is merely a feeble Islamapologist talking point that rookies like you don't know we've all seen 1000 times here. 4:34 has no context. 4:33 and 4:35 discuss other subjects, not wife-beating.

All in all, your post # 78 is >>>

    This seems true: http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/344234/what-really-happened-jerusalem-charles-krauthammer

“I honestly believe that if any Israeli parent sat down with those [Palestinian] kids, they’d say I want these kids to succeed.”

    – Barack Obama, in Jerusalem, March 21

Very true. But how does the other side feel about Israeli kids?

Consider that the most revered parent in Palestinian society is Mariam Farhat of Gaza. Her distinction? Three of her sons died in various stages of trying to kill Israelis — one in a suicide attack, shooting up and hurling grenades in a room full of Jewish students."

I think everyone needs to learn about and care about the well being of their own kids and everyone else's too.

Never been in the military ? Sounds you you don't understand war. Or the specifics of World War II in the Pacific. For your edification, there are hundreds of old black & white newsreels of captured Japanese films showing Japanese women and children well-armed, and being trained for battle to shoot and kill US soldiers. You're learning this for the first time ?

Probably not, since I support the Marxist concept of redistribution of wealth through high taxation on the rich. Do you guys ever get anything right ?

Let's see what the entire translation says:

Men are the protectors and maintainers of women because God gave more strength to one than the other and because they support them from their means. Therefore the righteous woman are devoutly obedient and guard in the husband's absence what God would have them guard. As to those women on whose part Ye fear disloyalty and misconduct, admonish them first, next refuse to share their beds, and lastly beat them lightly; but if they return to obedience seek not against them means of annoyance for God is most high and above you all.

You know, I don't condone violence against women, but I don't condone bigotry either. You have a 1200 year old text that you want to pick and chose passages from to demonize a religion you apparently know little about. That is no different than the bigots that want to justify their actions by using cuts about slavery from the Bible.

You seem to want to fight a religious war and appear ill prepared for it. I do not believe the Muslim religion wants conflict, but as with any human will respond if forced. There are extremists on both sides that wish to use religion as an excuse for their political actions. Fortunately, their numbers are few and the vast majority on both sides want nothing more than peace and to continue their daily lives.

In the case of our Palestinian friend, he seems to want to respond in kind rather voice his true, legitamate concerns. His reaction is exactly what we should all try to avoid. The purpose of this forum is to exchange views and learn about each other. This thread has said much more about you than the OP.

The poems from the Koran are beautiful, contradictory, from many authors, and mean different things to different Muslims, just as the same stories and parables in the Bible are interpreted differently by different Christians or Jews. Their Holy Book holds truth to Muslims and deserves no less respect that the Bible or the Torah. As far as I can tell, none of the three has a monopoly on Truth.

    You are quite right!

Netflix had a compilation of WWII newsreel and combat war footage edited into a 17 segment, 30 minutes each week, series shown on TV in 1951 called, "Crusade in the Pacific" which shows evidence of the Bushido code of militarism via clips of the citizenry (including school kids) practicing using all sorts of guns and regular military armaments as well as farming tools as weapons with which to repel Yankee invaders.

I think that B&W series is still available.

    It is great.

FALSE! I am choosing passages from an ideology (masquerading as a religion) to show the essence of the ideology which has demonized itself for 1400 years, and which I know all I need to know about.

Your belief (if what you say is true) is off target. Islam does not just respond when forced to. Nobody forced marauding Muslims to attack and kill hundreds of millions of people on 3 continents, hundreds of miles from their home bases in Saudi Arabia. Nobody forced them to force people to become Muslims, of become dhimmis, or die. This conscious willful action on their parts, and has been for centuries. Nothing in all history is more sure, more track record, more proven. To come in here and say Muslims only respond when forced to, is so absurd it puts your credibility here on the thinnest of ice. Right now most readers are probably thinking are you really that ignorant ? or are you perhaps an Islamist trying to spread false propaganda to help spread Islam ?

Lastly, to say "Their Holy Book holds truth to Muslims and deserves no less respect that the Bible or the Torah. As far as I can tell, none of the three has a monopoly on Truth" is absolutely one of the most lamebrain things I have ever heard. Are you out of your mind ? You come in here and say that a book that advocates murder, genocide, pedophilia, severe discrimination against women, wife-beating, slavery, rape, animal cruelty (Eid al Adha), torture/mutilation, and other vile practices, all ILLEGAL under US law, should be respected ? The only thing I can see that should be here, would be for you to have your head examined. Also, Islam is unconstitutional (Article 6 Section 2 - the Supremacy Clause), by its supremacism, and ILLEGAL by its seditionism (US Code 2384). You might as well say we ought to respect the actions of Adam Lanza. Pheeeeeeeeww !!! (high-pitched whistle) :police: :disbelief:

PS - the word "lightly"(after the words "beat them") is only used in the phony Ali translation, and only in the version of it sold in the West. Middle Eastern versions of that Koran do not contain the word lightly. The Western versions are sanitized (whitewashed) for Western audiences. Also, it matters not whether one beats someone lightly, or harshly, or even with a whip (as in the Pickthall translation). Any "beating" of another person is tantamount to torture, is IMMORAL, and is ILLEGAL under US laws. Just another example of the incompatibility of Islam in the USA, and why it can NEVER be accepted here.
