I'll ridicule someone with a 4th grade vocabulary when they are an adult with a 4th grade vocabulary. You have to hand it to the man, he understands his audience.

When Obama was running for the Senate I thought his speeches were really good but then I heard him on an unscripted interview and realized he was just another empty suit. That is when my opinion changed.

If we're talking purely public speaking, I don't think Trump holds a candle to Obama. That's independent of my politics. Both were able to energize the electorate to come out and vote. Obama was able to get almost 10 million more votes than Trump, and he actually won the popular vote.

What Barack had going for him was a very thorough set of Saul Alinsky brand training as a political fighter -- which is quite effective until enough people catch on -- and a golden orator's voice.

Unfortunately for the Great Communicator issue, it's not enough to have a great speaking voice as a leader, you also have to have great messaging, and in short order the Saul Alinsky-based stuff began to grate since it is all about pitting groups against groups. All Obama did for eight years was point the trembling finger of blame rightward or racially-agitate. He never inspired more than half of the nation and -- the honest truth of the matter -- probably even most leftists are secretly disappointed in the type of president they put into the Oval Office in 2008 and again in 2012.

They EXPECTED to actually get this enlightened Political Messiah type of fellow and instead they got just another hate-filled and racist radical leftist agitator type.

He certainly brought out the black vote who almost voted for Obama hundred percent. He also brought out the white voters that wanted to vote in a black president and many of them voted for Trump this time. Hillary thought she could ride in on the special interest group train. Didn't work.

1- Nobody's perfect, for example I'm an ex-jailbird (3-month vigilante rap in 2002) but I like to think I still have christian values..:)
Incidentally, Obama said he was Christian, yet he got 2000 US troops killed in the pointless Afgh war.
Don may have had 5 wives, but at least he hasn't got anybody killed..;)

2- I don't know if there's ever been a poll about Brit attitudes to Putin, but my gut feeling is that the ordinary Brit in the street admires his no-nonsense strong leadership, just like we admire Trumps..:)

A vote for Trump was also a vote to repudiate "Progressivism":

The Democrat Party has been in the hands of fanatical extremists whose agenda is completely divorced from the realities of human existence.

Jettisoning the highly religious foundations established by Martin Luther King, Jr., who spoke in terms of human rights as rights for all, the new so-called civil rights movements embraced by the Democrat Party did not seek equality before the law for all human beings, but rather special privileges and power for themselves regardless of the cost to others. "Progressives" ran roughshod over the core institutions of America and over those structures upholding her constitutional republic even targetting the Church and her institutions for destruction in the name of "progress".

A Harvard professor encouraged "progressives" to treat Christians as Nazis were treated after the end of World War II. No quarter or clemency was to be offered Christians now that "progressives" were in the seats of power. Many "progressives" agreed with the professors’ assessment. For them, it was only just to persecute people like the Little Sisters of the Poor because of their stance on birth control.

As "progressive" extremism wrote Christians out of their script, they kept writing an increasingly radical script for the American masses to follow. Those who refused to act out the parts assigned them were treated with contempt and often exiled to the periphery of society, there to join the aforementioned leprous Christians already outside the camp.

Those who opposed the new truths -- “truths” which could be changed daily according to the latest decree of political correctness -- were treated with ridicule and often persecuted. Whether it was the CEO of Chick-fil-A or the small-town butcher, baker, or candlestick maker, those who stood against the "progressive" tide were marked for destruction.

Despite the deeply held convictions of tens of millions of America’s people of faith, the proselytizers of the "progressive" movement insisted on abortion on demand up to the point of birth...

Included in the radical agenda was the completion of the retrofitting of academia to the "progressive" agenda. [T]he doctrine of global warming was to become the accepted scientific viewpoint, and woe to those scientists who disagreed.

Such extreme positions embraced by the Democrat Party, radical orthodoxy, oblivious or resistant to reform.

Americans were to be forced into believing and accepting a complete reversal of reality and the substitution of unreality -- a worldview matching neither science nor acceding to the moral transcendence supplied by faith.

Americans were to be forced to agree with and live within the progressive bubble world that was hell bent on enforcing a confabulist viewpoint that would extend to the entire globe. History and even memory were up for grabs as the Brave New World was effectuated through force, as persuasion was not enough to do the job.

The unreality, extremism and fanaticism of leftist "progressivism" signaled its demise. It became more and more abhorrent to the American people. Voters saw that their country could not continue to embrace the destructive concepts perpetrated and enforced by the Obama administration if America was to endure, much less flourish. If the nation was to survive, the "progressive" movement had to be repudiated.

Confabulism is a descent into insanity -- fanatical orthodoxy is in all movements a late development. It comes when the movement is in full possession of power and can impose its faith by force as well as by persuasion.

Americans had found themselves forced to believe and practice an ideology that endured only by coercion. For a time, force works. Coercion when implacable and persistent has a persuasiveness for a time.

Progressives were issuing arbitrary decrees forcing people of conscience to recant their convictions and confess their errors lest they be destroyed. We saw the United States military, for instance, subjected to "progressivism’s" politically-correct mandates that undermined the mission and effectiveness of the armed forces, while protesting generals were forced into resignation.

The more unworkable and oppressive the mandate, the greater the force needed to ensure capitulation of the resistant. Those who opposed the imposition of the latest "progressive" doctrine were persecuted as heretics.

Finally pragmatic and commonsense Americans revolted. The unconverted society refused to accommodate the confabulist insanities. The lie can be kept intact only if anything which threatens to expose it is destroyed. Mere mortals saw that the "progressive gods" are mad, and that their insistence that we retrofit our existence and all of society to accommodate their insane demands was a fatal assault on life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Using only the voting booth, peaceful Americans repudiated the lies and subterfuges of the extremist "progressive" movement. "Progressivism" will remain for a timein the bunkers of academia, the media and Hollywood. "Progressives" will live on in backwater subcultures where they routinely consigned those who opposed them. Al Gore will be seen in the same light Aimee Semple McPherson is now seen in retrospect -- as an irrelevant curiosity and the purveyor of pure poppycock.

It remains for the newly elected leadership to forge ahead with the mandate of the voting public. It's time to WIN Again!

Trump won the same way all tyrants rise to power. He pounded the same messages over and over again while using fear and prejudice as fuel for the fire. People have been brainwashed by the media and can no longer tell facts from unfounded claims and lies. They were prime for another Hitler. "It will be great!" is all the evidence needed for belief. Save us Lord Trump!!! I don't care what you say or do, I believe!!!

It was a failure of the American people due in large part to people living fact free.

Sounds a lot like the BS drumbeat of Hope & Change we heard 8 years ago that turned out to be, well, BS.

The US economy was booming when Slick Willy was president. Good healthcare was cheap, gas was under a buck a gallon. The middle class thrived. The budget was balanced. Under GW gas more than tripled in price. Healthcare coverage rised similarly. The Obama years have been accompanied with stable gas prices around $2.50/gallon, ridiculously low mortgage rates, continual rise in private healthcare.
There is nothing traditional about Trump. You didn't mention one specific political policy. You talk about American politics like someone who hasn't been working, raising kids, buying homes, buying countless insurance policies.
Don't talk about the left and right with sweeping generalizations, you sound like you can't think and can only regurgitate talking points.
Obama, GW, Clinton and so on were in the ME.
Before anyone takes offense, you have to walk in the shoes.

His wife speaks five languages. He has made a ridiculous amount of money. If you wanna slam on Trump, he has horrific hair and there is nothing eloquent about him.

Very disingenuous of you to edit my post. Are you denying that some white voters voted for Obama because they thought voting in the first black president would be a good thing?

High priced escorts need to make themselves look attractive to high bidders.

So did Bernie Madoff, it's not an instant indicator of virtue.

    - - - Updated - - -

I only respond to the blurbs that are relevant.

I won't assume to know why people cast their vote. I'll leave that kind of projection up to you. You clearly have a need for things to confirm your bias.

Trump won because Americans are sick of Washington, DC.

Throughout our history, the NYC metro area has been the wealthiest location in America. It's been replaced by the Washington, DC metro area because our federal government has grown fat and rich at the taxpayers' expense. The government is twice the size it should be. America is beginning to look like the fictitious country in "The Hunger Games" where the citizens of the capital city live in unimaginable luxury while the rest of the country lives in squalor.

    Washington sucks.

Trump only won because Hillary is so horrible. Dems didn't vote at normal levels. Republicans did, just barely.

He understood the US political climate.
He was the antithesis of every other candidate. He won because he isn't a politician. He was a profound blow to both parties and has opened the door for fresh blood in DC. His rhetoric isn't why he won.
