I would hope they would not go that far.....but I would not be surprised if our posts are not deleted.
absolutely.... but my job being at stake is not the same as being thrown into prison, or having the full wrath of the IRS come down on me because I complained the POTUS plays too much golf and has a crappy foreign policy. Here's the only questions you need to ask yourself about if you should be concerned about the government should monitor free speech..... would you trust Obama to not abuse this power? would you trust Nixon to not abuse this power? if you answered no to either one of those questions, you should not support it ever. However, I'm fully aware, there are plenty on both sides that are partison hacks that will claim THEIR guy would never do it. I'm also aware that there are plenty of partison hacks that are OK with Obama doing this (but not a Republican) because "we're liberals, we know whats best for you and if you don't agree, you will feel the wrath" but I KNOOOOWWWWW, you aren't one of those kind of partison hacks..... right? RIGHT????
If this is true, I'm just wondering how this administration will define "hate speech". Anything which presents an opposing political view?
We certainly can't have Americans communicating what "progressives" deem "subversive propaganda", "false and misleading ideas" and "suspicious memes", can we? Nah, that's not Orwellian at all. Shall we begin construction on our Gulag archipelago now?
Yall are going to really love this then: http://users.humboldt.edu/mstephens/hate/hate_map.html Instructions & explanations: http://newsfeed.time.com/2013/05/20/the-geography-of-u-s-hate-mapped-using-twitter/
that would be great! Since all the Snowden docs have turned out to be true and exposed government as well as individual corruption, having his resource here would more or less prove Obama is a criminal whose intent is to become a dictator. Thanks for that.
Absolutely NOT! This is a step in the right direction which will curb all that unpatriotic stuff like criticisms of Obama's golf swing, or Michelle's latest fashion nightmare. And that's good, as we simply cannot have the leader of the free world as seen as anything less than "Bush caused this" perfect. But once again, the Obama administration has missed the boat and a grand opportunity to end this traitorous activity in the bud, once and for all, and I ran out of metaphor things.... This is Orwellian and that is what is wrong with it. Orwell was espousing ideas from the 30's...he's OLD. He didn't even know Twitter was coming, what kind of prophet is he? No\, it is high time we went scientific on these jihadists asses...and got technical. We need a drug that will cause people to reveal their innermost secrets and in that way we will find subversives, likely even some of those smug television people who smile and say one thing, but are clearly racist and hate Obama. This (*)(*)(*)(*) has to end! I say once we ferret out the bad thinkers, we castrate the bastards so they can't breed and make more.,
What is wrong with partisan hacks? Are they all blind, dumb, and stupid. Both sides of the hacks. This surveillance of digital data has been happening since near the 1st transistor could store memory. This is no secret. Why do you think the whole world wants to go digital? So everyone can be monitored, or at least have data available. Perhaps folks should've had their thinking caps on when all these new intrusive laws have been passed for decades. NDAA, PA, etc. Each one of those makes it easier for the gov't to gather data. Stop whining now, after all the RWers cheered for the PA.
Bipartisan in the fact that both parties want it and pass it. Knowing someday each will get to use it.
Many LWers cheered for the patriot act as well....and there were many on both sides that opposed it. RWers also put a sunset clause in the PA that was extended by the LWers.
sense this will exist regardless of party in power, I am sure the rules will be very strict to make sure no abuse on either parties part this is a tool to detect hate crime and terrorists quicker, hopefully before innocent people die
I remember this, and I remember the problems I had with it. 1. They never published how OAuth was obtained through the Twitter API, anybody at that level of data parsing would do so to demonstrate integrity and also to display. In non-techie terms this is akin to not citing your sources when making a claim. 2. While she indicates that sample weighting is used to create map marker proportions, she never explains what that formula is or why zooming in changes the indicating color. Only mention is of "more or less" vs the "national average" which is what exactly? 3. Sample size of only 150,000 in the span of a year out of the over 2 billion Tweets sent in that time frame. 4. The DOLLY Project, where this data comes from, is largely criticized for being an amateur in the game of data mining due to their inability to fully intercept and analyze the Twitter stream. In other words, they're not capable of capturing every one of the 5,000,000+ Tweets a day. 5. After the potentially cherry picked Tweets were selected, humans determined whether or not they were negative in nature. Which of course means human bias affected the outcome, ie: the California know-it-all education system's liberal bias of calling anything they disagree with racist. So it is, in many ways, entirely possible this "hate map" was specifically engineered to paint a particular picture.
Case in point. Once gov't gets a power of information, they will never ever give it up. Also why I state, mostly the parties are 2 sides of the same coin. It's all a dog and pony show when they throw tantrums at the other side. At least at the top leadership levels.
no, we did not cheer for the patriot act, in fact we told the right not to allow it cause once you gave the gov that power you could never take it away... we were right
Wow the Obama administration has really done a number on the left. Obama has gotten you guys to agree to anything. I'm actually old enough to remember when liberals cared about the first amendment, and would have gone nuts if the government tried to set up a database of of opinions it didn't like.
Well now that they've totally bought in on the idea, I'm sure liberals would have no problem with a future Republican President maintaining that database of opinions he didn't like.
Uh no. It was slated to expire. Once the Democrats took control of the government in 2009 they extended it with nary a complaint.
Thanks for reminding me! It was done on a few occasions, most notably whilst then-Senator Obama was campaigning. As a 16-yr Liberal then, I openly complained on the Obama Website that it was blatantly false and misleading to his supporters. Snake Oil Salesman
