The president took time out of his busy schedule to speak at the dedication of the MLK Memorial this morning. IMO, the only thing Barack Obama has in common with Dr. King is skin color. What's your opinion?
You are correct, Smartmouthwoman MLK gave his life and endured many hardships to see to it that segregation in the South was finally ended. Many years later, Barack Obama was admitted to Harvard on the basis of "affirmative action" and never cracked a book the entire time he was there because of his "minority" status and the fact his skin color was not white. We know this for a fact because Obama will not release his college transcripts to prove his grades at Harvard were good enough for him to actually graduate! Obama does not deserve to stand anywhere near the shadow of MLK! Many, many black leaders agree, but they will not openly say so! http://www.politicalforum.com/curre...-include-anti-job-measures-his-jobs-bill.html
I think we all know if Barack Obama had run on the strength of his character instead of the color of his skin... we'd be talking about an entirely different president right now. One who was actually qualified to fill the position. If MLK was alive today, he might very well be picketing in front of the white house... calling attention to the sorrid state of affairs black Americans find themselves in under the 'leadership' of Barack Obama.
He doesn't need to... the time for MLK's message is long past, and rightly so... for it paved way for the personification of such a message (which is where President Barack Obama enters). The claims of Americans still needing to heed to MLK's message are widely exaggerated... people are much more capable of seeing character before color.
"He doesn't need to" Of course he needs to... Dr. King's message is more important today than when he delivered it. America had come a long way toward racial color-blindness until the DNC made the decision to market Barack Obama as a black man. I still remember how shocked I was to hear him referred to as 'black.' Who did that in 2007??? By capitalizing on his race, Obama & company set us back at least 30 years. Now we're back to seeing things in black & white. Nobody to blame for that back-sliding but the Democrats.
The DNC marketed Obama as the perfect "blank slate" candidate. He was marketed as whatever anyone wanted him to be. To blacks, he was the Great Black Hope who would abolish ghettos with the wave of a pen. To unions, he was the 2nd coming of FDR that would see their power rise again. To upper class liberals he was the ultimate progressive, ready to shift American politics into "Third Way" Socialism. Unfortuantely for all 3 groups.. he turned out to be none of those things and they dislike him in the same way that Cons don't like Romney, but they are willing to settle for Obama. What the left in this nation really wants is Hugo Chavez.
and he'd be told that the President is the President of the United States, and not people of color (like others who are out protesting have been told). It's odd that credence would be given to MLK for doing it, though... supporting the notion that "words offer more strength when you're dead". Perhaps the current protestors aren't so bad...
.....Really. So, you're suggesting that today...in 2011... racial matters are worse than during the 1960's. Him being referred to as a black man makes today worse than the Jim Crow era.
I hate the MLK memorial. That is not Martin Luther King Junior up there on that rock. That is a black Mao. Standing all stern and cross armed. He should've had a smile and open arms as befitting a preacher filled with love for the world.
Watch his speaches... they were delivered with a stern expression, as are a good majority of his candid photos. Sure, he smiled... but artists are going to attempt to capture the essence a person sends at their most memorable moments.
Uhm...only half the color of his skin and none of his morals or ethics....so basically NO....he is nothing like MLK. I'm sure he thinks he is. I'm sure he thinks he's smarter than....only in his own mind.
Why can't you understand the very distinct difference in Obama and MLK? MLK wanted equal right for all people, he wanted people not to look at color...he wanted blacks to be treated like an American...not an African who isn't really welcome here. Obama on the other hand used his race to get into the finest schools...instead of his intelligence. He has used race, and blacks his entire life...no more than he did during his campaign for president. He learned that he could use it, because he looked black, he's responsible inpart for the morgage crisis....he used blacks to bring him to the top and become a senator...even though he did nothing for his black community except force a bank to give a loan to someone who couldn't afford it, only to one day have it taken away. Obama wants blacks to be seperated from white's...that is clear with his message to blacks to get out and vote for him "I'm like you" is his message...Obama went to a racist church where King would NEVER have attended. Obama wants social justice only because it benefits him to say so. King's message was one of unity for all people. Everytime Obama opens his mouth it is to divide...black from white...rich from poor...democrat from republican...liberal from conservative. If King's message had carried on through generations...we would not be talking about who black and who's white...we'd be talking about how we are all American's. No one keeps racism strong and in the news, or at the dinner table more than the progressive liberal cowards of today.
Hmmmm......... Nice sentiment I suppose but the Obama's term has been disastrous for the black community. Unemployment, teen unemployment, quality of life, and education have all worsened at shocking and historic rates. Increasing the numbers dependent on the government for food and housing assistance has been the Obama's only dubious achievement.
I have said this for months now...Ubama is the great divider. Truer words were never spoken. Not only dividing those things but the wealth. He thinks taking from the rich makes the poor rich. It only makes everyone poor. Dividing wealth does not make it double.
Race didn't become an issue until the use of the Rev. Wright became a campaign strategy to hinder Obama's efforts, which prompted a rather appropriate speech (from Obama) on the importance of Unity and a color-blind philosophy: "I have already condemned, in unequivocal terms, the statements of Reverend Wright that have caused such controversy. For some, nagging questions remain. Did I know him to be an occasionally fierce critic of American domestic and foreign policy? Of course. Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes. Did I strongly disagree with many of his political views? Absolutely - just as I'm sure many of you have heard remarks from your pastors, priests, or rabbis with which you strongly disagreed. But the remarks that have caused this recent firestorm weren't simply controversial. They weren't simply a religious leader's effort to speak out against perceived injustice. Instead, they expressed a profoundly distorted view of this country - a view that sees white racism as endemic, and that elevates what is wrong with America above all that we know is right with America; a view that sees the conflicts in the Middle East as rooted primarily in the actions of stalwart allies like Israel, instead of emanating from the perverse and hateful ideologies of radical Islam. As such, Reverend Wright's comments were not only wrong but divisive, divisive at a time when we need unity; racially charged at a time when we need to come together to solve a set of monumental problems - two wars, a terrorist threat, a falling economy, a chronic health care crisis and potentially devastating climate change; problems that are neither black or white or Latino or Asian, but rather problems that confront us all." - Barack Obama Baseless.
I agree. The biggest problem with "giving" money to just anyone is that that person has no concept of how hard it is to actually earn it. They are not fullfilled they learn to expect rather than create. They learn to demand, rather than have patience for it. They learn that they are not worthy of anything except what is thrown at them for just existing. There is no pride to share with your children, no sense of accomplishment to give yourself the sense of worthiness. It is a failed idea it breeds contempt, jealousy and greed. This is what Obama preaches to the masses for nothing more than a vote. He doesn't really care, he is numb to it, he is a shell of a person...a coward. King would have never stooped that low. He was a proud man, he was a winner, he was someone to look to for inspiration. What inspiration does Obama sell? Steal from other people so you can make them pay for having more than you? King would be embarrassed by Obama, he would have voted against him, and embarrassed for his race that that was to be the first black president. And the shills that spoke at his service today would be an embarrassement to him as well.
You mean the mostly white people who are protesting, right? Nosiree, blacks have still got their star hitched to Barack Obama. Not gonna see masses of black demonstrators while he's in office. Obama was willingly packaged & marketed as a black man. Even today, if you disagree with his policies, you're labeled a racist. MLK must be turning over in his grave.
I hate that monument. MLK probably would have hated it, too. He was a humble man and a devout Christian; he probably would have considered that statue idolatrous. They should have just made a life-sized bronze statue of him amidst willow trees or something. A serene and peaceful area where people could congregate and reflect quietly on his message. Instead, we have an ostentatious, Roman-esque statue that looks like it was made for Augustus Caesar.
There's no need to demonstrate when you actively possess the ability to sit with the President in order to sort through issues facing your cause, which is exactly what NAACP head Benjamin Jealous just a few months ago, resulting in: We are extremely heartened that President Obama has heeded our call to end discrimination against the unemployed,” stated NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous. “When I met with the President in July, I stressed the need to reach out to unemployed workers rather than pushing them away. Any meaningful job creation plan must include strategies to bring those long-term unemployed back into the workforce. The NAACP will continue to fight against job discrimination as we call for improving job creation.” Source Incorrect. The issue of race never entered the fray until the use of his former pastor became a campaign strategy to hinder his efforts. Who cares what fringe loons think? The same can be said for people who pull a gender card whenever female conservatives are criticized... and equally irrelevant demographic of loons with hyperbole as a main source of ammunition. Speculation. Sad that such a shaky tactic is all that is available.
