Do you really believe that all statistics apply equally regardless of situation?

It applied to me from cradle to present, my brother same, and my mother and father.

I've had my own household since I was 21, it was just me at that time, until 23 when I got some roommates of similar age, then a live in girlfriend, then it was just me and the girlfriend from 24-last year when we (now married) moved her 18 yr old sister in so she could go to college where we're at. There were firearms present in each configuration. No discharges.

    So all of them.

Not to mention only 2 of the 5 used were even semiautomatic in the first place.

Safely operating a firearm is no different than safely operating a car or a chainsaw.

How many children die unattended after being left in a "loaded" bathtub every year?

Yes banks would be much safer if they didn't guard them with guns.

    Same thing with the Oscars.

It would be much safer without all those gun toting people on the perimeter.

I was left unattended with loaded firearms around the house. Didn't have a baby sitter from like age 8 on.

I knew not to **** with them, because that was the rule. Not your stuff, don't **** with it. Also: guns are not toys, they're loud and dangerous tools that must be treated with respect or someone could die.

Is there a Godwin's Law applicable to the word 'Trump'?

Can't find an actual method of debating it, yell 'Trump'.... geez....

I did the same thing with my children that my grandfather did with me.

Grabbed a shotgun, took them outside, set up a pumpkin, put ear muffs on them, and exploded the pumpkin.

Their interest in handling a firearm was satisfied until I felt they were ready to learn. They avoided the safe like it was radioactive.

Took me to a private range and had me remove my ear pro while he kicked off a round.
I didn't so much as go in the closet it was in until I was about 11 and we started going target shooting.

So, the question is, "How (should) rational countries deal with gun violence"? Does anyone want to be SERIOUS about this?

The obvious answer would be that those convicted of crimes involving gun violence are sentenced to harsh prisons under barely-humane conditions and made to serve the FULL LENGTH of their sentences! Years and years, at hard labor, crappy chow, no TV, no internet, and, with no chance of "parole". You get ten years for an armed robbery, you go to prison and STAY THERE for ten years....

The only exception would be for those found guilty of capital crimes. They should be given a mandatory review and re-trial (if this is found to be warranted), and if the conviction is still found to be valid after that, the convict should be taken out to the prison yard the next day and shot. END of problem.

Hint: the only thing wrong with the way we punish people for crimes is that we DON'T....

I beg to differ. It was only a few months ago that a Texas high school was shot up.

Apparently the rational response is to nationally broadcast the call to Islam.

    https://www.sbs.com.au/yourlanguage...ks-nz-broadcast-muslim-call-prayer-nationally

I mean every time there's an Islamic terror attack in Europe, the Muslims there wear crosses to show their support for the people of Europe.

The "call" that Islam has put forth consistently -- and OFTEN, right now, in the 21st-century, is described here, and it is UNAMBIGUOUS:
    https://www.thereligionofpeace.com/pages/quran/violence.aspx

Think: surely nobody in his right mind simply spontaneously started detesting and hating Muslims for NO GOOD REASON....

The thing I find most troubling about conservatives is..........even when presented with empirical evidence showing their belief is in error they refuse to change their minds.

The empirical evidence you are showing is worthless. It does not account for where I live and my need for a weapon, my knowledge of weapons or how I handle weapons.

Then you are doing alright. So far. It only takes one to break the rules as we have seen so many times.

You do know that when statistics are used they don't reference individuals? It's funny that most gun owners say the same as you before they become one of the shot individuals in the sample data

Dude I was armed throughout college when I was a textbook definition binge style alcoholic with blackouts who had house parties. Who suffered from depression for an extended period of time

Nothing. Happened. Why? Because even blacked out drunk or depressed I know not to play with a gun and I know how to hide it while still having it be immediately accessible if needed. Like a normal person.

Gun control is nothing more than a Trojan horse meant to control the population.

One of the recurrent themes throughout history is the attempt by elites to disarm their subjects.

Gun control is a gateway to subjugation.
