...and how exactly am I poking my nose where it doesn't belong, given this is a forum?

Is John 3:16 complete or is it the Readers Digest version?

Mark 16:16 (NKJV) = He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

The focus is on belief. If I believe AND go to church I will be saved. What action saves me, my belief or going to church?

There are four Gospels. I happened to select John.

The New Testament doesn't place too much emphasis on going to church.

Matthew 18:20 (NKJV) = For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

It does set out a list of other behaviors that believers have to follow if they want to be "saved". They are not all in one place.

The building it is not the Church (this is what most people think it is) but it is the people who are in the building that is…….the word that is translated Church is Greek word ekklēsia and it means a calling out. So when two or more are gather together in Jesus' name, they are the Church whether or not they are gathered in a building.

I did not I capitalize the word "church". Thus I am referring to the building, not a body of people. Again, my focus was on belief. Belief, being the cause of a saving action. There are people who go through the motions of going to church, but remain skeptical.

House churches were established not too long after Jesus' resurrection. In fact, women who owned homes in which the faithful gathered were considered priests.

Man was not created as a mortal sinner at all. If you read what Isa stated, you would know this already. A paraphrase: Isa, "As by ONE MAN, sin entered into the world and death came by sin." Man was actually created to be The Vice Gerent of Allah. This is the goal of all Muttaqun; to become that which we were created to become.
Of course, some of mankind was made to be the enemies of Man to serve as an example of that which is not in keeping with our Creator, who is Lord of Man and mankind, though most of Man and mankind dispute this reality.

Not the forum, other people's lives. Stay out. Clean up your own back yard. Keep any negative feelings to yourself.

If you cannot spread love, spread NOTHING!!!

There are many ways to interpret this parable. Of course, Western Fundamentalist usually go straight to the Judgment Day thing but that is only one interpretation. You do not KNOW what Jesus meant anymore than I do. Whatever you're interpretation, I'm fine with it. That is probably a difference between us.

A couple things here. You mention the standard He set for us and then mention loving gangsters and atheists. So then you believe the standard is that you SHOULD love those people?
    I do.

Well that was certainly an asinine statement. Not that it's any of you business but I'm not in anyone's life except for the lives of my immediate family.

Have we met or are just sticking YOUR nose where it doesn't belong?

Good for you, but for me I love these people but I wouldn't go as far as to say that that love was unconditional.

Hi, I'm straight BTW. However, unlike you I'm not seeking attention.

Are you referring to your poser buddy, who posted photos of 9/11 victims jumping to their death? Well let me tell you about your buddy since you feel compelled to play the white knight (forgive me, I'm assuming you wear the pants in the family). While your poser buddy began to continuously post those photos for revenge against a NYer, I asked him to stop. I explained that I had three friends who died that day. All became dust in the wind. NO REMAINS. I can't even begin to tell you how painfully mind-numbing the months following 9/11 were for everyone in the Tri-state area. Needless to say, YOU HAVE NO CLUE, Ms Holier Than Thou.

Anyway, I further explained to your buddy that he is not only opening up old wounds while attacking anyone on the forum who lost friends or loved ones that day, but he is also disrespecting the memory of the innocent victims -- many children among the lost, and their surviving families.

I received an insincere apology which lasted approx. an hour. Shortly thereafter, he began posting more gruesome 9/11 pics with slams included. He continued on for a week. With the exception of two of his cohorts, nearly all members of the forum either placed him on ignore or gave him a taste of his own medicine. Now this is apart from his venomous attacks regarding anyone of faith, and their respective religions.

He returned to the forum shortly after finding a new home here, and posted a link. Then, he began stirring up more tripe thread after thread. He continues to check in to the forum that he supposedly despises just to stir the pot while continuing to slam members (one cohort from here included).

So the unrepentant despicable sub-human whom you befriended, is not the person you think he is. You only came to his defense just because he threw you a few compliments. Loneliness does that to him. And while prancing around with your chosen moniker is surely a "look at me" attention seeker, certainly you have found yourself in perfect company. He too seeks the center of attention @ 50+ posts a day.

Now please feel free to take you righteous pretentiousness, and shove it where the sun doesn't shine. I further suggest that you kindly mind YOUR own business while moving forward, GAYmom.

But the truth still is the Church is not the building it is those who are filled with the Holy Spirit that is the Church.

There is no need to interpret Jesus' parables because He tells us what the meaning is.

    You are arguing semantics.

    church noun

1.a building for public Christian worship.
    2. public worship of God or a religious service in such a building: to attend church regularly.
3.( sometimes initial capital letter ) the whole body of Christian believers; Christendom.
4.( sometimes initial capital letter ) any division of this body professing the same creed and acknowledging the same ecclesiastical authority; a Christian denomination: the Methodist Church.
    5. that part of the whole Christian body, or of a particular denomination, belonging to the same city, country, nation, etc.

Perhaps the confusion arises from the fact that the Bible itself is terribly conflicted about love and hate, not killing and killing...

of course. That's the secular definition. the first two. That's not what the Bible says. Well, the last three really are closer to it aren't they.

    Cross Reference: TDNT - 3:501,394

    Usage Notes:

from a compound of <G1537> (ek) and a derivative of <G2564> (kaleo); a calling out, i.e. (concretely) a popular meeting, especially a religious congregation (Jewish synagogue, or Christian community of members on earth or saints in heaven or both) :- assembly, church.

And gays? Atheist who mock the church? Former Christians who have become Muslims or Buddhists?

Even then, His explaination is open to interpretation. Unless of course, you think that all non-Christians were actually the physical progeny of say Al Pacino in "The Devil's Advocate".
BTW, an example of one left to interpretation is The Good Samaritan.
