Heard a great question yesterday, one reasonable people should ponder

When conservatives, ahem, are once again spitting out the usual made up silliness....

 

This is the real disaster of Republicanism.

At the end of lil' Bush's presidency, the economic crash was caused by a credit crunch that was caused by a cash shortage. The cash shortage was caused by too many wealthy entities taking too much money out of the system, via the Reagan and Bush tax cuts. The net result of the crash is that we have had greater banking and business consolidation, and higher concentrations of wealth at the top. And Republicans are asking for more.

Trump's tax cuts are only making things worse. Since the tax cuts went into effect, the stock markets have been mostly stagnant. The national deficit and debt are going through the roof. Personal debt is at a high. Infrastructure maintenance isn't being kept up. Homeless numbers have been rising.

 

So you all are in agreement. People who inherit their wealth, people like Deranged Donald, lil' Bush, the Koch brothers, and the rest of the inheritance class the Republicans primarily support, are lazy, ignorant, and losers.

I mean, if daddy gives you your money, why work, why be responsible?

 

I never said liberals won't work. I said people.

 

Not like I do now. I would spend time perusing my own interests and less time doing the jobs I don't like.

 

It's just like that if your uncle Sam gives you money. Born poor, I never would have poured a drop of sweat, just bought a beach chair and an umbrella.

When my wife was teaching 8th grade a girl told her she was a damned fool for working and putting up with all the ****. Not her, she was gonna get pregnant and get on the dole.

 

Heck, why would anyone want to work?

 

We couldn't afford it. There's not enough money to pay for all that crap.

So you would be a productive person - but others would live in their parents' basements and be, basically, useless. What is the difference between you and them?

 

It's human nature. People need a good boot in the ass to get them working.

That boot may be real hunger, real no place to stay, real can't afford a 15.9 oz. bottle of water. Or it may be wise parents.

Almost never give anything away for free. And if you do be pretty damn sure the loss leader will bring you profit in the next quarter.

 

Got new for you- and people who think like you. The list of very wealthy is filled with people who started their businesses in garages. Some. like Elon Musk, on small family loans- he borrowed $26K. Buffet talked a few family members into helping him fund a small stock purchase. A very large percentage of those people do not have college educations- such as the the guy who built Bank of America. People who gain riches the easy way usually lose it, because they have never learned how to manage money. Check up on the percentage of lottery winners who are bankrupt 5 years later- it's downright scary. When daddy gives you money- it don't mean crap unless you have the skills that would have made you wealthy anyway. Doesn't make any difference how much- money never stays long in the hands of financially incompetent people.
Such people just blow it and can't figure out what happened. Then they are no longer rich- just has-beens.

It takes consistent correct decisions, very good judgement and excellent self-discipline to become and remain wealthy. Ordinary people like to think that it takes no more than what they have, so it must just be "luck".
That's not intelligence talking, it's ignorance.

 

I stated that I would have reduced productivity in the areas that would be necessary for economy and society.
Who is interested in picking up your garbage for free? Simply being productive is not enough. We need people to be productive in the areas that are necessary for society to function. That means you have to provide and incentive for people to do things most people don't enjoy doing.

 

Nonsense! Humans are like cats. Very mean and vicious when necessary, but we can be the laziest creatures in the world if given half the chance.

 

Coal miners will continue to mine coal because that is their nature.

I think you missed the point that @Daniel Light was making. They don't do it to eat or pay the bills. They do it because it is their nature. They would do it for free, if necessary.

 

Whatever you fund you will get more of. Increase funding for food stamps and more people will be on food stamps. Providing a universal income will allow more people to take lower paying jobs, part time jobs or stay home if the UBI is sufficient for their needs. There is a basic truth that humans act to relieve discomfort. They act to fulfill the wants and needs they have. When their wants and needs are fulfilled, they rest. That means if you want a lot of stuff and you're discomfited by living a subsistence level lifestyle, you'll act to get more than government giveaways will provide. If you're content living in a crappy 4th floor walk-up, playing video games and eating fast food, you'll take the handouts, stay home and play video games.

Another basic truth is that work is a dis-utility. People would rather do what they want to do (leisure) than what someone else wants them to do (work). They go to work because they want stuff (like food, shelter, weed, sex) more than they want to take a nap (or whatever). If they're given the stuff they want without having to work, they'll stay home and take a nap.

 

Sure they would.

 

So...incentives matter? Who'd a thunk?
