The key driver of which is hunger/survival.

Unless you're referring to the leisured 'thinking' of the aristocrat/very wealthy?

So you would do what you do for free? Is that what you're saying? How would you earn money to pay for your needs?

Also, I have no idea what conservatives think. You might want to ask one yourself.

No, realists and pragmatists only consider physical disability. Potential starvation means we can't stop for 'moods'.

OMG ... a more obnoxious demonstration of Elitist Sneering it's hard to imagine. Why don't you just come out and condemn working class kids looking to better their prospects by taking a 'pathetic' STEM degree? Perhaps you'd like to call them deplorable, for not having been born into enough money to indulge a degree in 17thC French Poetry?

Remember folks - the Left was once the party of and for the working classes. Let that sink in.

A gentleman pursues creative processes, unlike commoners. A gentleman doesn't worry about putting food on the table and keeping a roof over his head, unlike commoners. A gentleman wears dinner clothes, unlike commoners.

I guess what goes for gentlemen goes double or triple for self-described Elf-lords.

And of course, we have elitists calling such work (and therefore the people who do it) 'pathetic'. I mean, fancy rich folk get to indulge their passions .. so clearly you're a terrible person if you don't. More of their bizarre cluster f of contradictory notions.

Not financially, at least. Socialism doesn't provide for individual wealth.

The new Bourgeoisie. They are utterly contemptible, sneering toffs. They literally hate the working classes.

So far removed from their roots that it feels like we slipped through a wormhole while we were sleeping, and into some mirror universe where Left is Right, and Right is Left.

So then, they should cut your pay till you are REALLY motivated? To survive?

    "they"?

I don't know about you, but I command a salary commensurate with my ability to perform. This is why my wife and I live in a million dollar + five bedroom three story home and have more than enough socked away to survive anything.

It's not about they, but rather me. Nobody is going to cut my pay because they know I can work for anybody, so the best offer wins.

What does "they" mean to you?

our alleged wars on crime, drugs, and terror do not support our general welfare clause.

Yeah well, I don't think lefties care about the constitution. That flew out the window a long time ago, so...

what you gonna do? Recite the entire constitution before figuring out that nobody believes you?

If you knew anything about the constitution, you would know that the general welfare clause actually limits the power of the federal government because it requires proof that legislation is in the general good.

    Got nothing, have you?

Our alleged wars on crime, drugs, and terror only promote the general Bad, not the general Good.

You know the Reagan tax cuts went away in 1990 and 1993, right?
If the Bush tax cuts were so bad for, well, everything, why did The Obama and the Democrats extend them for 2 years?
Nice post hoc fallacy you have there.

Why do you think I keep responding to that broken record? He believes he wrote the Constitution himself.

Good question. Somewhere down the road people will read these discussions. I think your responses will end up on the good side of the ledger.
