Interesting you consider Jefferson just 'one signatory of many'- considering that Jefferson was one of the most influential men in America at the time, and the future third President.

What you don't like is that Jefferson specifically addresses the issue in a way that you don't agree with. Now if you can find any of the signors of the Constitution who stated it didn't apply to 'Mohammedans' feel free to point them out.

Okay lets go with actual results- the Treaty of Tripoli- submitted to Congress by John Adams:

As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion,—as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen (Muslims),—and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan (Mohammedan) nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries

That not enough for you? How about this:
Two centuries ago, Thomas Jefferson held the first recorded Iftar with the Ambassador from Tunisia at sunset.
    http://www.state.gov/secretary/rm/2009a/09/129232.htm

“Ramadan,” said President Obama at a White House iftar dinner in 2010, “is a reminder that Islam has always been a part of America. The first Muslim ambassador to the United States, from Tunisia, was hosted by President Jefferson, who arranged a sunset dinner for his guest because it was Ramadan — making it the first known iftar at the White House, more than 200 years ago.”

The dinner to which the president referred took place on December 9, 1805, and Jefferson’s guest was Sidi Soliman Mellimelli, an envoy from the bey (chieftain) of Tunis who spent six months in Washington. The context of Mellimelli’s visit to the United States was a tense dispute over piracy on American merchant vessels by the Barbary states and the capture of Tunisian vessels trying to run an American blockade of Tripoli.

Mellimelli arrived during Ramadan, and Jefferson, when he invited the envoy to the president’s house, changed the meal time from the usual hour of 3:30 p.m. to “precisely at sunset” in deference to the man’s religious obligation.

I don't know why you need some sort of confirmation when the First Amendment is pretty clear, but whether you want to see an actual confirmation in writing, or see it in action- it is very clear that Islam was considered just in the same light as Judaism or 'Hinduism' or any other non-Christian religion from the very beginning.

No by definition, every American's right to worship freely is protected by the U.S. Constitution.

You cannot bypass the Constitution by pretending a religion is not a religion.

Well these Muslims can't leave- they died defending the United States....

When you wander the cemetery grounds that overlook Washington, DC, you’ll notice the grave of Army Captain Humayun Khan, who lured a suicide car bomb away from the men in his charge, saving their lives but giving up his own. You might also come across the grave of Army Spc. Rasheed Sahib, an American Muslim from Guyana who was killed in Iraq as well, under mysterious circumstances. And then there’s Army Spc. Omead Razani, a son of Iranian immigrants who also died in Iraq. Also, Marine Staff Sgt. Kendall Damon Waters-Bey was killed in a helicopter crash on his way to duty in Iraq. In fact, you’ll find the graves of fallen Muslim soldiers and Muslim veterans in military cemeteries all over the United States, from Hassein Ahmed (Army, WWII) to Ibrahim Muhammad (Navy, WWII), from Mahir Hasan (Army, Korea) to Abul Fateh Umar Khan (Air Force, Korea).

Ah everything is a front group for the Muslim Brotherhood- eh?

CAIR- Cair was accused of being a front for Hamas during the Home Land trial...but I don't see it for the Muslim Brotherhood.

CAIR pointed to an arrest of five men in Pakistan on December 10, 2009, as a "success story"[citation needed] between Muslims and Muslim community organizations (like CAIR) and American law enforcement authorities. When the five men left Washington for Karachi on November 28, the families of the men discovered an extremist videotape. Worried, they contacted CAIR, which setup a meeting with the FBI on December 1, and the families shared their sons' computers and electronic devices with FBI agents. A U.S. law enforcement official described them as models of cooperation. CAIR hoped the event would ease "strained" relations of American Muslims with the FBI.[67]

Women were given these rights under Islam way before they were given these rights in the "western world"

I did not say sharia law was ok . I said some of it makes a great deal of sense if it is practiced as it should be. I also said that it gave women rights which they weren't given under western laws ( at the same time in history when the Koran was revealed). I also stated that I would not wish to live under sharia law or ANY OTHER religious law.

The Copts in Egypt ( according to my Coptic friends) are fearful of increasing enforcement of sharia under the current regime as is seen is Saudi Arabia . Secular Muslims are nervous about sharia law replacing napoleonic law in the criminal courts.

Doesn't that imply that Sharia law isn't such a good thing then?

Yes, we know some of your "good aspects". Like the killing of young ladies that don't do what their family wants them to do. Talk about something being brutal. I could make a long list but I'm not going to wast my time. If you WANT Shariah Law, then go back to where you came from and let us be. We have our own culture and it doesn't include treating women like animals

Many of the founding fathers were deists. America and being American has nothing to do with religion. I don't care what religion the founding fathers were and they probably didn't care either. I don't believe any of the founding fathers were of the Hindu or Buddhist faith either.

And all of that is condemned by the Shariah and punishable offenses. Seriously, think before you post.

A manual of Islamic law certified as a reliable guide to Sunni orthodoxy by Al-Azhar University, the most respected authority in Sunni Islam, says that "retaliation is obligatory against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right." However, "not subject to retaliation" is "a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring's offspring." ('Umdat al-Salik o1.1-2).

But yes your right in most cases it is punishable, you just failed to mention where it rates on the scale

    Jordan quashes 'honour crimes' law

Frankly Albert I don't even know what the insult is intended to mean.

I have never lived or travelled in a majority Muslim country, but have lived and travelled way south of Mission Street.

Anyway I assume it was some sort of cheap shot...but frankly just comes of as another bitter post.

Did you know that honor killings are illegal in Jordan- but were just outlawed in Brazil in 1991?

So was Shariah to blame for the honor killings in Brazil?

According to University of Toronto professor of women's studies Shahrzad Mojab, followers of Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Judaism and Christianity have used their religions as a rationale to commit honour killings. She said that honor killings don't have "any definite connection with religion at all", and that honor killing had been practised before any major religion came into existence.[21][dead link]

So are honor killings only bad when they are done by Muslims? Or do we all agree that they are bad regardless of who does them?
