Thanks. I will focus on the Shia-Sunni issue in my next post here. The issue, of course, can be tackled differently and the way I want to tackle it isn't so much to focus on the historical basis for the split (which is what most western scholars focus on), but more on what the split eventually came to mean or represent politically, culturally, philosophically etc?

For now, I should mention that I am still very curious about your background. I understand it is unrelated to the Middle East, but mine is too: I went to law school in the US, where we didn't study the "Sharia" :)-) as part of my curriculum to receive my Juris Doctor degree. (Ironically, however, I discovered later that the "Socratic Method" employed in American law schools is rather similar to the method used in Iran's seminaries to train Shia clerics!). Before that, I had studied political science and economics in the US, again without any formal focus on anything relating to Iran. But my Iranian heritage pulled me to study Iranian politics, history and society and I ended up with my own library of books on the subject and then some!

Anyway, I will be back with my thoughts on the Sunni-Shia divide. I will do so, if not immediately, then certainly over the next couple of days.

Does the author of the article you quoted explain how and why did the Old City of Jerusalem become Jordanian following an alleged civil war outside Jordanian borders?

That wasn't a civil war, there were several Arab armies, one of them trained, armed and led by officers of your country, invading the new Jewish state.

Nothing in your source is credible due to that "civil war" lie.

There are so many things wrong with this letter. It implies that Muslims' lives are expendable, or at least a small price to pay for saving Christians. It explicitly states that only pro-Assad Syrians can possibly be patriotic (identity politics much?), offering legitimacy to a president who has to murder scores of his own people to keep his behind on the presidential chair.

Please don't start with "but but but the alternatives...". If Assad stepped down when the mass protests began, allowing free elections, none of those "alternatives" would have existed.

Yes! that's just what I meant!

    Forensic psychology.

    I had no doubt you'd be a well-read fellow.
    I love books!
I just finished reading Sexual Ethics and Islam by Kecia Ali.
I didn't much know if it was the kind of book for me.
As it turned out, I learned a lot.

Well, nine dead have been "confirmed" but not a mention what-so-ever about the number of wounded. That in itself is awfully suspicious.

ISIS was defeated, the only risk was from releasing their prisoners in Iraq by the Kurds , I don't believe in any of that crap propaganda that ISIS is US or Israel, its the usual anti west propaganda, it makes no sense all, the only party here that uses proxies to that extant is Iran, both Israel and US use their own troops when they fight, makes sense that Iran uses proxies and blame others for it.
Solimani was many things and he got killed for the risk he posed and also to send a message, it's not surprising that the radical left got hit as well by this killing.

What are you talking about ? what name? Qudes forces fight Israel from other countries so we fight them, the right is called "self defense".
Alexa I can't argue with you about the west bank at every discussion, this is about Iran, its proxies and their late commander...., Palestinians that attack ppl for whatever reasons they have sometimes get shot - terrorists get their houses demolished but not taken by Israelis. Oslo accords and rights for dwelling are not the subject.

    I see
So why didnt Obama take the lead on all those Gas attacks by Assad ? if Obama was lying and supporting ISIS as you suggest why didnt he bomb the crap out of Assad and then allow those Jihadi to ravage the place ?
What are "Greater Israel" borders in your story ? what countries are we suppose to occupy ?

    Many thanks...

The only point in that was the definition of Al Quds. Gilos and I many years ago argued for a long time over what happened in the 48 war. That is not something to made into another mystical tweak. The new Jewish state had already been involved in many massacres against the Palestinians and ethnically cleansed around 300,000 before the Arab armies came.

    No no no no .......
I'm not suggesting he was anything near Hitler or Iran to Nazi Germany....

I gave Hitler as an example for someone indisputably bad (well by most ppl) and still we are able to point at something positive he did to his ppl if we chose to, you focus on Solomani fight against ISIS, that's great, I give him that, Solimani did fight against ISIS - we both agree he fought ISIS and we both agree it was great,
    Now
Solomani was also commander of Hizbullah, anything they did came from his support if not guidance - the Burgas terror attack in 2012, the kidnapping of our soldiers, rockets by "renegade" organizations in Gaza, for what he commanded on and what he will command on - those were the risks from the Israeli point of view, I'm sure the Saudis blame him for the Oil refinery bombing and others, I'm sure US has a list on its on - none of these got to do with his fight against ISIS.

You have the right to fight us or strap a bomb to your chest and kill civilians for your rights, whatever makes it for you - my point in all of this - and its amazing you simply cannot grasp it - is we have the right to fight you in return, and its not because we worship an evil entity or want to conquer the ME, its simply because you fight us to "liberate" whatever it is you want to liberate. and so.......Solimani was our enemy not because of ISIS but because his "right" to fight us. OK ?

I understood you to say Soleimani had to die because his name meant Al Quds.

It might be if they were fighting you. You however kill them when they are fighting ISIS, Al Qaeda etc. I assume hence you are saying you are on the same side as ISIS , Al Qaeda. Killing people who are fighting a people whose first intent is their death is self defence. You kill people fighting for their own survival again presumably because you are on the side of ISIS.

You have given no argument about the West Bank. I do not remember when I last had any argument with you about it.

This is about the unlawful killing of a member of the Iranian Government someone I learned last night was considered the possible next leader. This unlawful killing was done while he was a guest of Iraq on a diplomatic mission. This unlawful killing done by the US was supported by no other country in the world than Israel and apparently also helped by them.

Please point to where I spoke about this which appears to be some justification by you for your killing of Palestinians. If you do not start being honest in your talk there is no point in my speaking to you. Is this the new line you have been given - Pisa did the same - claimed I was speaking about things I was not. You are baiting and deliberately taking things off topic. Bringing in things I did not say and asking me not to say them and the bringing in excuses for your killing of Palestinians and destruction of their homes. Who suggested you take this line?

However as you have brought this into the discussion

re your demolishing of Palestinians homes

    These are all new articles

    http://jfjfp.com/british-government...israels-demolition-of-palestinian-properties/

    Ongoing from East Jerusalem
Israel issues eviction and demolition orders to Palestinians in East Jerusalem

Gantz vows to annex Jordan Valley after elections. Netanyahu asks: why not now?

I know I read recently that you believed you had destroyed sufficient homes and got sufficient Palestinians out of Area C that you believed now you could formally annex it but perhaps this is a better question

Has Israel already annexed the West Bank?

Now I have dealt with your distraction from the subject and please start another thread if you want to talk about your destruction of Palestinians houses, ethnically cleansing them from the area and killing of Palestinians more.

You were claiming that Soleimani was killed because of Jerusalem. This appeared to be some kind of propaganda. This then appeared to have its source with the Neo Cons and Christian Right in the US who appear to be working in Israel. I would suggest that rather than being involved in illegal murders of people of another States government presumably in the hope that a nation stronger than yourselves will go to war with them and it will be her people not yours who are killed and trying to justify this on some nonsense which the Christian Zionists have come out with, you rather be aware that you are the people working with the Christian Zionists working to help them destroy Iran and create Armageddon - in this case starting off with the illegal assassination of a man on a Diplomatic mission to Iraq and as such a Guest of the Iraqi Government.

I dont really think Israel is a t risk that Qudes brigades will storm our borders to "liberate" Jerusalem (nice touch you added here "for the three Abrahamic faiths" lol), the fact they harass us with rockets, terror attacks in other countries against Israelis, dig tunnels from Lebanon and Gaza etc' - are enough to fight them.

Here you show how your thinking has been so used to going against International law that to you doing so is now 'all natural'.

so you were just making that up then. Shouting at me claiming I knew that was the reason and was deliberating saying different when all along it was not what you thought at all. Just more baiting. Got you.

I'm not sure he "had" to die at all, but the fact he is does according to many experts does help Israel, it not his name its his actions, his brigades had the ultimate mission to fight Israel and they do that from time to time, I said it like a dozen times before here - he and his brigades are enemies of Israel by their own choice - nothing to do with ISIS.

I think is we truly were on ISIS side we could do a whole lot more to **** up Syria, we could use some excuse to save the Druze or whatever and take the Syrian Golan or Mount Hermon Syrian side for "self defence", kind of what Turkey did on account of the Kurds, I think Obama would use the Gas attacks to bomb Syria as well. none of that happened, the FSA was weak that's a fact and it was weak because it DIDNT get the support you hint it did, they had to join the Jihadists because they had no significant support.
I also figure ISIS is pretty much done, I dont think they will rise following Solomani demise, that article you posted mainly suggested that now Iraq will simply ALLOW ISIS rise by kicking US out and denying them to fight ISIS, if that happens.....Im afraid Ill blame only Iraq in this....not the US.

You mentioned Israel is killing and taking land I figured you talk about the WB

Yea well....its certainly unorthodox....dont know about legal, imo using proxies while Iran hands remain clean is at least not moral, someone pushed a button and now he's dead....considering the risk he posed I shed no tears.

You wrote in the post I replied to about killing and taking homes, I figured you talk about the WB.

Going by your belief on what the law is Israelis and Americans would be killed the moment they stepped out of their own countries. You call an illegal act against International law as 'all natural'. You belong to a country which acts on illegality, which I think has broken more International Laws than any other country. The United States now appears to be copying some of your bad behaviour. You care not one bit about the fact that this killing was against International Law because to you breaking International law 'its all natural'. Yes I accept that for Israel going against International law is 'all natural'.

No you were personally attacking me saying I knew that and that that was the reason for the murder of this man. Now you say even you do not believe it. You were just giving personal attacks over falsehoods.

The other way around, Israelis ARE being killed by the likes of Qudes brigades and the only reason it doesn't happen every time is the fear of retaliation, what you witness now is how such countries whose citizens are being targeted - respond.
