There is no "we" in this equation.

As a social entity, "Americans" are neither monolithic nor coherent. There are no common values or customs uniting them, which is why the US has been riven by factionalism since its inception. This "we" you speak of is nothing more than an illusion and a mythology invented by aristocrats who wanted to protect and enhance their personal power and wealth by consolidating political power in a centralized government that they control. It's a strategy as old as civilization itself.

And yet despite all this and our cultural diversity we became the richest most powerful nation on earth.

    Fancy that

You forgot to read the rules for Norwegian citizenship.
If you think the right wing doesn't understand economics, how come the alt-lefties claim they have all the $$$$

Well, first of all, the US isn't a nation, it's a federation.

Second of all, there is no collective "we", as I just explained to you. It's a myth.

Thirdly, most Americans are neither rich nor powerful.

Actually spoke to someone who has kids living in Norway, you get free childcare but apparently they drive two hours to cross into Sweden to shop for groceries, because it's too expensive in Norway.

No, the US is not a nation, it's a federation.

That's why it's called the federal government, not the national government.

    Try learning basic civics.

Which means what, exactly? What unites these mythical Americans?

Since the US is not a nation, but a federation, that simply isn't possible.

Granted, some individuals who reside within the US are quite powerful and rich, but the average person enjoys neither of those privileges.

Of course they are. We have college students in this country who are at community colleges learning to add fractions because they barely finished high school.

The statistics bare out that those students are less likely to graduate. In Norway, they don’t get squat to go to college. Here, many of them get Pell Grants and waste my money because they don’t know what else to do. Are you okay with those grants being taken away from them? If not, then you don’t want a system like Norway’s.

I suspect you, like Jake, are totally oblivious to how things actually are, and only go by what you’ve heard about the paradise many miles away from you.

We already have most of them in whole or in part plus a whole hell of a lot of other crap they don't have, like four tiers of bureaucracy making rules and regulations.

Using the proper definition of words and concepts may seem laughable and pointless to you, but educated and honest people will obviously feel different.

The US is a federation, not a nation. That is a fact whether you want to admit it or not.

    And what does that mean?

I'll be a person who uses words properly and who understands basic concepts.

Of course we do. If we go by the liberal definition of socialism just being fre ****, The US gives enough of that to buy the entire GDP of Norway.

You need to look at the effective taxes paid not what just the income tax rate is without considering deductions or other taxes. So lets do this.

The 2017 US GDP is 19.49 trillion. The federal revenue is 3.32 trillion. State and local tax revenue is about 1.65 trillion. That makes total revenue 5 trillion. That is 25.50% tax of the GDP.

Norway's 2017 GDP is 400 billion. Their revenue was 217 billion. That is a 54% tax rate. Also consider that they have less income inequality and a smaller share of income (about 10% that goes to the top 1%) so they have to get most of their tax revenue from the working class.

They have a really stellar GDP per capita, but they are an oil countries and oil countries always have crazy high GDPs from oil. As a comparison Qatar's GDP per capita is $63,000 thanks to oil.

Baloney we don't we got city state and county bureaucrats. In Europe the rule making apparatus is confined to top level of the hierarchy hell most of them don't even have an equivalent to the county level any more and at least some of them don't have the state level as an independent entity. You've got city and federal and nothing else save as departments of the federal government.
