Ask his supporters who most definitely interpreted it that way and acted as such?

Holding an event and sending people to Capitol knowing violence will occur is like opening the safe for bank robbers.

Maybe...one thing that bothers me...Trump's nonchalance reply to McCarthy's plea for help. At that point he knew the Capitol had been invaded, because of the misplaced call to the Senate (which was evacuated first). Did he know before that? Was the break-in planned, using the protestors as cover?

I don't know but I do believe that a few people behind the scenes actually stopped Trump indirectly from being able to declare martial law. If he was able to do that with military in the streets, who knows how it would have turned out. Believe me, he most definitely tried, why it was unsuccessful, we may never know.

And then calling the cops on the bank robbers so that they all get caught. Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds?

You don't understand. If you know a bank robbery is going to happen, you call the cops, you don't invite the bank robbers into the vault. Trump apparently did both. Does that make sense to you?

What you're claiming is that Trump knew violence was going to happen, and held the event anyway. If that is the case, then Trump is complicit.

First we need to confirm that he actually did ask the Acting Secretary of Defense for the 10,000 troops. It's possible that was made-up after the fact. Secondly, the 10,000 troops may have been intended for use in a declaration of martial law, to be called upon AFTER the break-in. The break-in seems, to me, to be the key. Ordinary protestors, IMO, weren't responsible for that, but rather extremist groups, who came prepared in tactical combat gear, with bear spray, clubs, tasers, etc. They were the people who led the physical break-in to the Capitol. I think it likely, the legitimate protestors were used as cover.
Think of the bank robbery simply part of a larger plot, to justify martial law.

No, your conspiracy theories make no sense to me. I, personally, am not claiming anything. I'm saying that requesting 10000 national guard troops to the capitol is NOT proof that Trump intended a riot. Is that clear to you?

Actually...Pence may have been the "fly in the ointment." Apparently, the Secret Service plan was to take Pence away from the Capitol. That would have halted the joint session, until he was returned. If he became "lost," even for a few hours, that may have justified martial law. When Pence refused to leave and decided to "carry-on" with the count, once the Capitol was cleared, the plot failed. I think the run-of-the-mill demonstrators (the vast majority) were used as cover and were expendable to the plotters.

I believe you are correct about the historical revisionism as there is no evidence that he requested NG back-up. I can also see your explanation about who did what during the riot as plausible. I don't believe Trump's hands are clean but slapping him with anything will be a difficult task.

I am very concerned about martial law. I know that's been thrown around quite a bit since the Patriot Act was signed.

I never said it proved anything. I was arguing your logic.

That's kinda like a bank robber calling the police on himself before he robs the bank, don't you think?

If my argument failed somewhere, you'll need to explain what you meant by the above comment.

Trump said he requested the Guard to protect the protesters. Protect them from what? What prompted Trump to expect violence? Those are the questions that need answering, otherwise it's all speculation.

Your analogy misses the mark. That's what I was arguing.

I wouldn't be too upset...this was the gang who couldn't shoot straight. People such as Trump, Mike Lindell, Roger Stone, et al aren't as effective as they'd have you believe.

What larger plot is that? Some conspiracy theory about justifying martial law? You have a lot of speculation and opinion going on but in all of this I see zero proof of anything. This whole 10000 NGT thing is proof of nothing.

So you are trying to equate the fear of death that Nazi officers felt if they didnt follow orders, to the actions of an infinitesimally tiny fraction of Trump supporters that walked into the capitol presumably following Trumps speech?

That is just silly. Wow. How can you even say that with a straight face? There is no way that you honestly think those two things are even remotely analogous.

I'm not worried about any of them. I'm worried about Trumpers ready to declare war over Trump's Big Lie. It would be simple if we were just talking about those guys. We're not.

It's still early. There was another story about a photo of the exterior of the WH, taken by a photo-journalist, with a long-range lens from outside of the grounds. It showed someone who appeared to be Mike Lindell, outside of the Oval Office, smoking a cigarette and looking at papers. When the photo was blown up the papers couldn't be read, but the words "martial law" were written in the margin. Now, that story may be completely false...but IF it's verified as legitimate, it might be worth having a little chat with Lindell under oath.

I think of this as a discussion of "if's," most of which still needs to be verified. Once it's verified, then it needs to be put in its proper place in the jig saw puzzle, to understand the complete picture.
