Then why are we such an upwardly mobile society?

Why don't you get Rich then? Sitting around endlessly whining about those "Evil Rich People" isn't going to help. America is a great country. You do have real opportuniutes. If you're a Loser it's most likely all on you. You can't always blame everyone else for your own failures. So get off your couch and go make something of yourself. It can happen. Seriously,it's true. Good luck.

Not sure how old the other person is, but obviously you are 21 or younger. No one older that that would type "r u" but rather "are you". Just an observation of the glaringly obvious. :)

Your best argument yet! Well done! You're wrong, I think, but still -- good argument!

I think you just give too much credit to bosses. If it's in their best interest to keep you in a crappy position, and they have the leverage to do so, some of them will. You can work too hard for a boss and make yourself indispensible (by which I mean very profitable) to the point that they won't give you a promotion to some other job where you might be less profitable. I think of this because I know someone in this exact position right now. She supports an entire company with her labor, but she's got mouths to feed at home so her bargaining posture sucks.

In a logical world where bosses are all good people, what you say would be true. But in this world, where bosses are selected more by office politics than by real leadership ability, it's just not something you can rely on.

And I like your attitude about standing up to bosses. But people with kids have to be more practical.

It takes money to make money. Is this not true?

You are comparing apples to oranges. Money is a tangible thing....an Idea is not.

has nothing to do with right or wrong...they just feel differently now. Idea's evolve.

Even though some bosses might be picked by "office politics", the selectee still must possess some skill for the position they are promoted to. If not, then that company will go on the decline....something NO owner wants to see.

Depends, you think everyone who has ever gotten rich in this country was already rich or something?

I think they were already rich to begin with, or were really just a front for someone who was rich (i.e. they had capitalist backers). You'll have your exceptions -- athletes, artists -- but even in those cases, without the support of the wealthy, you aren't joining the wealthy.

J.K. Rowling may have been poor before she wrote the Harry Potter novels. But without her publishing company, would the books have existed for people to buy?

Access to resources. That's the short definition of wealth, isn't it?

It will always be convenient for many to blame those "Evil Rich People" for them being losers. This mentality will always be around. And the Democratic Party preys on these people perfectly. Class Warfare is all the rage in the Democratic Party. The reality is,if you're a loser it's most likely all on you. Blame the "Evil Rich People" if that makes you happy but it really isn't their fault you're a loser.

In your J.K. Rowlings example, everybody has access to the publishing companies....for a price. She didn't have to come up with the "price" right away. The publishing company took their price out of the sale of the books.

I think so. You have an excellent point. or how about Billy Ray Cirus daddy buying all those albums. It set him up and he was able to get Miley a head start. All from the resources. If his daddy wasn't wealthy then there would be no hanna montana no billy ray or nothing. But there would have been some other star emerge. So in a way the wealthy keep changing history.

America is an awesome country. Opportunities are there. But sitting on your couch eating cheetos and watching TV isn't going to create those opportunities. You have to get out and make it for yourself. Sitting around blaming those "Evil Rich People" is just a way to justify you being a loser. It's not their fault you're a loser. That's all on you. So get out there and get rich too. The opportunities are there.

It's proven the USA is not that much the land of opportunity. If you make crazy statements saying otherwise you need to provide proof to counteract what is already common knowledge.

Losers will always blame others for being miserable Losers. That's the way it is and always will be. Those "Evil Rich People" are not responsible for you being a miserable Loser. That really is all on you. Stop whining and try to get Rich yourself. Give it a shot. It can happen but it aint gonna happen on your couch while watching TV. Get out there and make it happen. No one's gonna give you anything and you're not entitled to anything either. Now get of your couch and get to work! And good luck. :)

Actually, the OP statement will always be true by definition.

Poor people will never have the resources that generat wealth, because when they gain those resources they become rich and cease to be poor.

It is like saying, poor people will never have a million dollars. Of course they won't, when they get a million dollars they will no longer be poor people.

But it's still the publishing company that chooses whether or not the book is mass-produced. Without the permission of the wealthy, you can't get wealthy. Or at least, it's mathematically infeasible.

His wealth also required mass-production, didn't it? Impossible without capital.

No. Lack of scruple often suffices.
