Do you guys ever make well reasoned arguments?

I don't agree with Obama. Feel free to point out an instance where my comments suggest that I do. Everyone already can get a higher education. And the education that is incredibly expensive is largely overvalued and the last thing we need to do is pour more tax payer money into academia.

And trade schools? Pfft, how much does it cost to take a 9 month training program at a community college? If you can't get it together for that, I have zero sympathy for you.

How pathetic are people today? Do these men children need the government to pack them a lunch too?

    DO you?

Your argument was that higher education isnt needed for most.

While the market place is clear:

SO your suggestion is do nothing and let the current shortage of higher educated continue?

Oh wait, let more immigrants who have the right degrees enter and fill those jobs? Everyone wins they dont cost as much.

fact remains a higher education is quite important in the current economy. Obama putting a focus on that is logical looking at the current state the system is in.

Whine all you want it costs too much and isnt needed but that isnt going to help anyone.

If you screw around in school your whole life, you don't deserve to go to higher education, when you couldn't even be bothered to complete regular education. Obama said EVERYONE, which means even the schmucks who don't put in the effort. Are you OK paying the lazy to sit around and waste their time being forced to learn something when they have no drive? Sorry, I'm not. You ONLY truly appreciate something when you earn it yourself. When its given to you, its not the same.

We already offer FREE education up to 17 yrs old give or take. After that it should not be up to the govt to provide it. It should be up to the individual to EARN it. Those who want to go can and there are endless means to do so. Those that ignore all the opportunities simply don't deserve it. And no, extreme hardship cases don't count, yet there are services out there to help even them. But Obama wants to help everyone, regardless of effort or being deserving. He sees higher education as, you guessed it, am ENTITLEMENT, not a privilege. It sure as hell isn't an entitlement. Grade school & highschool is an entitlement. College should only be reserved for those who WANT it. Simply saying, "I want to go" doesn't mean you want it.

If you want to go to college you should have to earn it. Otherwise, what the heck is the value in a degree if anyone and everyone DESERVES it no matter what? Liberals don't seem understand that concept. Its why they complain that they can't find a job with their fabulous Philosophy, Creative Writing or Women's studies degree. Talk about throwing money down the drain.

I don't like our government picking winners in the market place and no, very few of them likely did.

Retraining isn't a horrible idea, trouble is it doesn't solve the problem because not only do you have to be willing to learn a new skill, but also willing to relocate to a place where your new skills can be put to work.

I don't know what your on about. My statement remains correct more education in general equals more money and a lower probability of being unemployed.

It wasn't an insult, it was an observation based on my personal experiences, hence why I qualified the remark. If you were offended by it, then I'd go take a look in the mirror.

If your job is replaced by an unskilled immigrant, then you didn't have any real skills anyway and you certainly weren't a master craftsman.

How much kick-back does Obama get from the US College industry for adding the federal government weight to their student loan sales campaigns?

No question about it....Liberals need every kid in college they can get. The teachers turn it into a fantasy land for the student, a fairy tale world of no personal responsibility, no consequences, a world where everyone is supposed to be equal and share...don't go out there and do it yourself...there is a "collective" now don'tcha know?

Once again, the great void b/w left and right is displayed here.

If everyone can go to college, then you render college meaningless, kind of like high school now.

We have so dumbed down education in this country, we can't even graduate intelligent people anymore. College is a privlage. And everybody readin this knows for a fact, that 3/4 of the classes and degrees are worthless.

This idea that the right is "against intelligence" is so stupid and childish, It really can be argued for or against. It's just a stupid statement meant for flaming people.

Santorum is right on this, people just don't have the guts to admit it.

Simply going to school does not make one educated. Not in today's world. Not when schools shuffle failures through by the boat loads. Calling that educated, is down right dumb.

I guess its easier to make up an argument and then pick a side.

Not in most cases. You can be retrained to be a nurse, brick layer, plumber, auto mechanic, carpenter, plasterer, heating and air conditioning, etc. All which you could get a job in most any city.

I can't agree with this. High school kids are operating on brains that aren't fully developed. There are some who are serious and studious and do very well. There are others who take longer to mature which is no indication they're stupid or incapable of going to college. Kids who skated through their high school years shouldn't be punished for the rest of their lives by refusing them the opportunity to do better. Those who dropped out and later realize their mistake should be given the opportunity to make it up. They can get their GED and enroll in a community college. Being immature in their teen years doesn't mean they should have to live in poverty or that they have no contribution to make.

What is the value in refusing someone an opportunity for higher education because they didn't do their best in high school? We need an educated work force. Some kids aren't ready for college right out of high school. They need a little dose of the "real world" to realize the value of education. When they're sufficiently mature and ready to seriously pursue it, they should have the opportunity.

Where in the world do you get your information on what college is like? It's pretty obvious you don't have firsthand knowledge and any college student who is there to do well and get a degree by hard work would laugh in your face at the "fairyland" they're struggling through. We had the personal responsibility of passing our classes and if we didn't, the consequences were an F grade.

I graduated from a 4-year college and I can honestly say that in all the time I was there, I was NEVER quoted anything by any of these "favorite authors" by any of my professors. Believe it or not, our time was spent learning the subject matter - not being "indoctrinated" into communism or marxism or anything else. I'm sure there are political science or other classes where these things might be discussed, but like religion classes, it's for the purpose of studying the history and gaining a knowledge of what it's all about - not to indoctrinate.

Let's face the facts ... nothing scares Conservatives more than independent thought and knowledge ... especially in the brains of minorities and women.

Spoken like someone that's never set foot in a classroom beyond 12th grade...

I'm a huge fan of this retraining programs, they're much cheaper than dispensing welfare or unemployment benefits. I was just remarking on the fact that even after you've been retrained there are still job search frictions that make the process not quite so seamless.

    QFT.

I posted like 10 pages ago asking where Obama said everyone should go to college. No one can provide said quote.

Here is the actual quote from Obama Santorum is referencing:

“And so tonight, I ask every American to commit to at least one year or more of higher education or career training. This can be community college or a four-year school; vocational training or an apprenticeship. But whatever the training may be, every American will need to get more than a high school diploma. And dropping out of high school is no longer an option. It’s not just quitting on yourself, it’s quitting on your country — and this country needs and values the talents of every American.”

I'd like to see anyone condemn Obama for the above quote, and not the ficticious one Santorum is lieing about.

I find it fascinating that what I posted has caused so many to attack me on a personal level. These people know nothing about me, nothing about the 3 that I have in college at this time. I did not single them out....they now have singled themselves out. It's unbelievable that they would simply not consider that other people have different experiences in college and/or at the University level....they just simply cannot understand that this actually does go on, this liberal indoctrination....no question, I have have had first hand experience and I have heard many stories. But, the reason they either don't know or don't care is because they agree with everything being said.

The very first thing the "educated" will do is try to attack your knowledge....never knowing how much you have, what level of education you have nor where you recieved it from....they will always always always....use the old tired lame personal attacks because they (as I have always said)....the more liberal you are, the more intolerant you are. I just love it when they call conservatives intolerant it's just the most hypocrital thing say ad nauseum,

If you look below at my signature, and click the link you will see just what some of our "prestigious" universtities are up to.

English is not a strength for some educated people. President Obama is clearly a snob. He considers himself, absent any evidence, superior. But, being a benevolent sort, he wants to help others by having them all go to college as he did.

But, it's so much more fun to start a thread with a lie and then ride it for all it's worth. Next we have Governor Palin saying she can see Russia from her back yeard.

Pitiful. I realize the left wants Gov. Romney as the Republican candidate but can't you let Republicans pick a candidate before you start sniping. Oh, wait, right, you think Democrats have a right to pick the Republican candidate. Didn't Santorum carry the Democrat vote in Michigan?
