Al Houthis have been considered a critical threat since 2004.. In Yemen you have Al Qaeda, al Houthis, Boko Haram, al Shabaab and a smattering of Somali pirates.......

The oil industry has taken a bribe to every politician in Yemen. Fact.

There was actually an anti-oligarchy rally held in Sanaa last year that led to dozens of arrests

About 4 years ago over 500 factories closed in Yemen.. Ten years ago the Saudis relocated their civilian population back from the border and beefed up security between Asir and Yemen.. They don't want any of those crazy factions in Yemen sneaking into Saudi Arabia including the sort that tried to blow up Nayef with a bomb up his rectum.

For decades KSA has propped Yemen up with material support like food and gasoline.. building universities.. contributing to healthcare and creating jobs.

Last week the al Houthis threatened KSA with suicide bombings.... They are Shia.. sort of.. they are fivers instead of twelvers.

I'm not arguing that the oil industry is strong in Yemen. Just that it is influential
90% of Yemen's exports and 75% of government revenue comes from oil. Politics and oil go hand in hand, which is the only claim I've ever made. What are you even trying to debate?

Really.. After 40 years Yemen oil production is still in its infancy and subject to all sorts of sabotage... Who is it that you want to blame?

What are you trying to argue? Yemen is one of the most corrupt nations in the world. Yemen is the poorest country in the Middle East. 75% of government revenue and 90% of exports are in oil. Houthis support came from Shia tribes and people of other religions who were promised an end to corruption and a restore to prosperity. These are all facts. I've made very few claims.

Perhaps the oil industry, despite being the second biggest component in the economy, is weak. I never disputed that. It explains why the country is so poor.

Who is it I am trying to blame? I am not blaming anyone, but Houthis is blaming the government and their apparent ineptitude. No one in Yemen is more popular or has more influence than Houthis. They rose to power with promises of radical changes in a time where radical changes are needed. I would compare it to the reforms of Nazi Germany under Hitler, except Houthis isn't going to be invading Jewish communities anytime soon, and if they did, it would be under the sanction of their UN approved democratically elected parliament. The worst Houthis can be expected to do is kill former corrupt politicians and Hadi supporters, and they would be given a fair trial under their judiciary system. That is more than we can say for Iran and Saudi Arabia. Yemeni citizens wont be stoned for driving or committing sodomy under Houthis.

Twice you mentioned Houthis's incursion into Saudi Arabia, which you use as an apparent justification for Saudi aggresion. The only reason Houthis was pushed into Saudi Arabia to begin with, is because the Saudi Arabians were sending supplies and bombs to the government offensive. Far from a neutral and innocent participant in a conflict that previously did not involve them.

You want the real bad guys? Look at Saudi Arabia and then look at Houthis. Houthis has a parliament. Houthis does not have absolute rule. Houthis is not oppressing insular communities by creating a theocratic state. Houthis may be a lot of things, but look at all the other crazy (*)(*)(*)(*) going on in the Middle East, and tell me we should put our focus into reigniting a civil war in a country that just got out of one.

The oil industry in Yemen is very weak because the country is so dangerous.. Saudi Arabia has been giving them gasoline off an on for years...

And, Over 500 factories in Yemen closed two years ago..

No country works when they have such conflict.. The kids can't even go to school and learn to read.

You want an end to conflict in Yemen? Protest against the military intervention. Malik's war with the government is over, and now Saudi Arabia is bringing an entirely different war to the country.

BTW.. they don't stone people in Saudi Arabia.

Yemen is awash in guns and they have Al Qaeda, al Houthis, al Shabaab, Boko Haram and some Somali pirates... and they won't stay in Yemen.. They are forever trying to get into KSA and start trouble.. Currently the al Houthis are threatening Saudi Arabia with suicide bombings.

KSA has provided food, gasoline and material support for Yemen and they have built universities.. IMO the Yemeni are simply too stupid and violent to let their oil industry earn money for the country... Gad, Yemen has been kidnapping foreigners for ransom since 2000.

Lashings are pretty much public humiliation... not life threatening at all.

What is outlawed is pedophiles acting on their sexual orientation deviance. Homosexuals too are outlawed from acting on their sexual orientation deviance in Muslim countries. Your society simply justified homosexual actions.

    I agree, privacy is paramount.

I can't believe you condone the barbaric and brutal act of lashing human beings.

I've never been and I don't ever intend to go to that (*)(*)(*)(*)e hole of glorified petrol station where people like you excuse the medieval act of public flogging.

I could never again look myself in the mirror if I went there. I'd rather go anywhere then the Arab Peninsula - even Israel.

I'm sure the people are nice and friendly to white middle class Westerners and tourists. But that's not the issue for me.

The lack of democracy and human rights. It's thus a question of conscience for me. I could never live with myself if I went there because I would feel that I would be legitimizing the regime in some way. I felt the same about South Africa under apartheid.
