The next step is for Serena loyalists in the USTA to fake a drug test result for Naomi Osaka and revoke her trophy so Williams can take over.
Serious question: In the times we live in why do we even have sports specifically for men and women? Shouldn't the best compete with the best?
So you completely agree with the rest of the world that Serena was an idiot for trying to play the sexist card?
Page 3 of innuendo and just plain lies and nobody notices? I guess I have to correct the record Serena Williams is getting more than her share of drug tests and is passing them ( she missed one as described below) and she really is sick peeing constantly for them. Despite her claim, is probably not discrimination based on anything other that preexisting criteria set up in advance though. The best article is probably the first as it puts the rest of them in perspective. http://theconversation.com/the-evid...-discriminated-against-by-drug-testers-100585 https://sports.yahoo.com/serena-williams-not-home-drug-tester-arrived-surprise-230646336--ten.html http://www.espn.com/tennis/story/_/...-serena-williams-decries-frequency-drug-tests https://nypost.com/2018/06/29/serena-williams-pushes-back-in-strange-drug-testing-controversy/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...ory.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.1b966a9c1acf
OSAKA WAS THE WINNER IN EVERY ASPECT of both the tennis and the very poor display of sportsmanship by both Serena and a lot of the tennis crowd. The tennis umpire acted appropriately in the entire situation,he was well within his rights to levy the penalties he did against Serena, she was ranting at him like a crazy person.Three cheers for Naomi Osaka well deserved champion.
Margret Court Smith has more Grand Slam titles than Williams. 24 to 23. https://www.totalsportek.com/tennis/grand-slam-titles-winners-mens-women/ If you think Williams is better than Court-Smith then consider that Steffi Graf has just one Slam title less than Williams. If Williams can be considered better than Court-Smith then why couldn't Graf be considered better than Williams? And of course if behavior and PEDs are thrown into the mix than Williams couldn't possibly make the list. IF Williams is somehow able to win that last title she would still be only even with Margret Court-Smith. And that seems highly unlikely as time passes Williams by. She isn't getting better. Just older. So check the resume of Margret Court-Smith if Grand Slam titles are your measuring stick.
And she's not the greatest either. She still could be...theoretically. But that seems out of her reach.
You happen to be talking about a subject I know a great deal about. All 'grand slams' have not been created equal. You might want to know something about the kind of draws and seedings those grand slams had in the 60's and 70's, how many of the top ten or top twenty players entered those 'major' tournaments, and how many rounds those tournaments contained. Margaret Court was the best in the world for over a decade, and is a contender for all time great, but you need to do more research than to pick one criteria out of context and throw it around. A lot of knowledgable people on the history of the women's game, would probably disagree with you.
Comparing what Serena did to what McEnroe and others did in the 70s and 80s is a bit disingenuous. People showed up to see the show. It’s what parked people in the seats and made tennis popular again. What would John say or do this match? It was part of the show and his antics were what people came to see on top of the tennis. Not comparable at all. Serena has been deadly serious when she explodes.
I have quite possibly forgotten more about tennis than you know. The only possible way to evaluate an "all time great" (an impossible subjective choice) is to use a measuring stick and Grand Slam titles seem to be the only effective method of measurement. Margret Court-Smith took on all comers and the best players of her day and beat them all. Australian Open and otherwise. And even though draws for the Australian Open didn't always draw all the best players of the day (some didn't wish to travel that far and play in the Australian summer heat) she beat whoever showed up. Equally one could bring up Serena Williams' use of PEDs to cast doubt on her acheivements. https://www.quora.com/Is-Serena-Williams-on-steroids Whatever you claim about Margaret Court-Smith the fact is she didn't gain an illegal physical edge through chemistry. The only measuring stick are Grand Slam wins. Williams has two more to go.
Also a big tennis fan and player. The thing about back in the day, I don’t think the talent was all that deep. You had a few great players and the rest were far outclassed.
True but we can only measure greatness in other eras through their competition at the time. I don't claim an all time great is possible to determine but the best player I've seen remains Steffi Graf.
It’s hard to compare different generations of athletes especially when the gear is so different in tennis. Who knows really Graff, Serena, Court. So close.
Serena was fined $17,000 not $2,000.The Japanese player outplayed her and on this day was the better player.
The marketing machine that is _____________ (insert pro athlete's name here) breaking down is stressful to a lot of folks. When they overhype the abilities of one athlete it often ends this way. Rhonda Rousey, Serena Williams, etc...........
