When I call people bigots and homophobes, it isn't because I'm trying to demean them or silence them. It's because "bigot" and "homophobe" are accurate descriptors of people who think I deserve less legal rights because of my sexual orientation.

It doesn't take name calling to silence bigotry. It doesn't even take common sense to silence bigotry, because bigotry vehemently rejects sense and logic. It takes everyone refusing to take them seriously. That's how I'm doing my part to kill off hatred.

    Wrong on both accounts.

Referendums in Main and Washington resulted in the public approving same-sex marriage in 2012.

The ballot box is the least accurate poll since such a low percentage of the population votes and we all know that the conservatives, who are obsessed about two men making sweet sweet love together, are a more reliable voting block.

10 years from now, the majority of the American public will look back and ask why it was even an issue but the conservatives will still worth themselves into a froth over this:

Exactly. They should own it. They seem to be quite proud of it. And like the OP, they lie like crazy to try to justify it.

    Same here.

You forgot Maryland and Minnesota. I'll post this again since the OP cannot be bothered to correct himself:

"Homophobe" is a recently invented word that is basically meaningless and you are using "bigotry" incorrectly. So when you use these terms it diminishes any credibility you may have in an argument. But keep up the good work.

Facts are facts. This is common knowledge. There are so many studies and polls done that are extremely biased on both sides of the topic. I have seen so much of it that I usually do not take any polls or studies on homosexuality seriously. It seems this topic is so politically charged that those who do the polls and studies start with the conclusion they want and then conduct the poll or study in such a way as to produce these results.

This is just sad. Not many folks are interested in honest results.

    Definition of "homophobe":

It has meaning. And it definitely applies to quite a few people. But keep up the good work. You and the OP are on a roll with inaccuracies today.

You definitely aren't interested in honesty.

One more time- produce proof for your claim or retract it. You cannot claim a fact if you have nothing to back it up.

    This is just sad.

LOL! It was made up and assigned a meaning technically but it still is meaningless. Just because there is a word for the Tooth Fairy doesn't mean it is real.

It is common knowledge. If I say the sky is blue do you need for me to post a link? That is sad.

No it means an irrational fear of homosexuals which there are some people who have that. The example of "I don't want my kid hanging out with that gay kid because then my kid will turn gay" is a prime example of an irrational fear.

While not everyone that is against homosexuality is a homophobe, when they give their reasons such as the one above there are.

No it's an attempt to demean and silence at LEAST be honest about it and accept the fact there are legitimate reasons to oppose the encouragement, support and sanctioning of homosexuality in our society.

    Such as

Meet the gay man who has fathered ten children with nine different women
Kenzie Kilpatrick started inseminating women after setting up a Facebook page that advertised his services as a 'drama free' sperm donor

.....After being contacted by the women – the majority of whom are in a lesbian relationship ........

......"But I don't feel like I need to know the babies or stay in touch with their families – I just provided the sperm. I'm not attached to them."
The former carer explained to Mail Online that he does not believe a child requires a consistent and present father figure – a conclusion derived from his own experience of childhood. Mr Kilpatrick was raised solo by his mother from the age of five, after his father left the family home.........
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/rela...d-ten-children-with-nine-different-women.html

The nuclear family is being torn apart, fathers are being marginalized and our future children will suffer.

Sorry to disappoint, but this Nation and it's laws are not run by the results of polls, welcome to reality.

Your abject denial of reality is what is truly sad. Wow. And yes, saying all polls on the subject are wrong requires proof. it's hardly the same thing as saying the sky is blue. BTW, you're even wrong about that. The sky is not blue at night, is it? I know, it's tough.

Again, a made up word that is meaningless. People have fears that can be considered irrational that have nothing to do with homosexuality but there is no need to invent a term designed to shame people for it. The fact that a word was invented for the sole purpose of shaming others is bigotry.

As long as liberals get away with framing the debate as such, you will be right. Clearly political correctness is more important than truth. Truthfully, that is a very poor analogy. There are no similarities. I think less of you for either believing it, or promoting the lie. Either way, you're part of the problem.

And it isn't just made up, but keep telling yourself that. There are phobias listed all around for things people are afraid of. Just because you don't "approve" of them, doesn't make them any less valid.

You said, "the sky is blue". You did not say "the sky is blue only during the day". Actually, that's not even true. The sky is grey sometimes during the day as well. If a tornado is approaching, the sky can even be green or yellow. You made an inaccurate statement. The sky can be many colors. But do double down. It's really fun to watch.

While I was at the hotel to—day, an elderly gentleman called upon me to know whether I was really in favor of producing a perfect equality between the negroes and white people. [Great Laughter.] While I had not proposed to myself on this occasion to say much on that subject, yet as the question was asked me I thought I would occupy perhaps five minutes in saying something in regard to it. I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races, [applause]—that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race. I say upon this occasion I do not perceive that because the white man is to have the superior position the negro should be denied every thing.

Where did I say I did not approve of any real phobias? How many other phobias are linked to bigotry?
