The national discrimination laws certainly include that SEX and the RELIGION must be respected in public groups.

Aside from gays, my OBVIOUS point was that ATHEISTS are BANNED and ONLY MALES are accepted into the Boy Scouts of America.

And your example ONLY covered non-profit SCHOOLS and as I have stated, there are many more considerations for schools, accreditation, satisfaction of legal requirements etc. that DO NOT APPLY for a non-school group.

 

We assume they pay their rent.

That's where I am at... if they are not using public property; I have no issue. If they used a firehouse or other public property, then they screwed up.

By the way, you need to reread your link that "proves" all nonprofit organizations cannot legally discriminate.

You see, your link talks specifically about section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954. This section states that organizations that operate solely for religious, charitable, or educational purposes are exempt from taxes (this is from the explanation in your link). Then in 1970, the IRS decided it no longer wanted to offer tax exempt status to private schools which practiced racial discrimination, such as Bobby Jones University, the example provided in your link.

So your link doesn't really prove anything about this topic because it really has nothing to do with any of this.

 

I'm assuming you're speaking personally because I don't think there's legally anything wrong with this.

 

The Boy Scouts are a privite group; the FDNY isn't. He isn't wrong, non profit gourps like this one, can't also discrimanation to happen.

 

What this group did was was racism against whites. Gov’t jobs, which is what the FDNY is, is open to all people. This group was doing a training workshop for the upcoming hiring. Because gov’t jobs are open to everyone, this group had to allow whites in to participate in this training. This group screwed up. Who ever did this, is going to, if they haven’t already, be called in to the Chief’s office and that is about it.

 

Your "logic" is beyond strained.

It is a private group, and they can do what they want.

The Vulcan Society is not affiliated with the FDNY. It's a local chapter of the International Association of Black Professional Firefighters, Inc. It's a private organization created by black firefighters to support black firefighters.

There's nothing illegal about this as far as I can see (I'm not a lawyer). I mean, if the KKK and white power groups can still organize meetings and rallies without inviting minorities into the show, why can't the Vulcan Society?

It's not really something I encourage, creating organizations for the propose of supporting a particular race of people. I think we ought to be striving more towards a color blind society, but for whatever reason, blacks even today, still feel like they need to band together for protection against racism. After reading some of the things I've seen people write here over the years, I guess I can understand why.

 

They can invite who they want, thats fine. Would you rather a private organization try to train up blacks who are having a more difficult time in passing the exams or have blacks held to lower standards to meet quotas? If the end result is more qualified firefighters hired because they are deemed to be the best of the best then I think we all win.

 

It would be interesting to see a different group decide to provide training for the exams exclusively to white firefighters. Anyone who supported this situation would be unable to say anything about it.

Why is it that we still have private country clubs in this country that black folks are basically shut out of.

Kind of, yeah, which I thought I made clear in my post above.

The difference that would cause me to sympathize more with black groups who band together for united strength is because, you know, their people actually did endure hundreds of years of oppression in this country, and in many ways are still feeling the effects of that today.

When white people band together for united strength to whine about how the black minority is oppressing them, well, I just have to laugh at little at the thought of that.

But the bottom line is both groups are racist in nature, and I don't really support either of them beyond the fact that they have a legal right to their thing.

 

Oh thats the reason because only white folks can afford it. I am pretty sure Tiger would have no problem with the fees. Will Smith could probably foot the bill. Michael Jordan probably wouldn't be strapped for picking up the tab.
