A Guide to S.744: Understanding the 2013 Senate Immigration Bill

    https://www.americanimmigrationcoun...44-understanding-2013-senate-immigration-bill

The “Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act,” or S. 744, is a broad-based proposal for reforming the U.S. immigration system written by a bipartisan group of eight Senators known as the “Gang of Eight.” Senators Charles Schumer (D-NY), John McCain (R-AZ), Richard Durbin (D-IL), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Michael Bennet (D-CO), and Jeff Flake (R-AZ) drafted S. 744 in the spring of 2013. The bill addresses all aspects of the immigration process from border and enforcement issues to legal immigration reforms. It makes changes to the family and employment-based visa categories for immigrants, provides critical due-process protections, increases the availability of nonimmigrant workers to supplement all sectors of the workforce, and provides legal status to 11 million undocumented immigrants within the United States. The Senators intended this legislation to address these issues “…by finally committing the resources needed to secure the border, modernize and streamline our current legal immigration system, while creating a tough but fair legalization program for individuals who are currently here.”

    Senate passes immigration bill

    https://www.politico.com/story/2013/06/immigration-bill-2013-senate-passes-093530

The Senate on Thursday passed the most monumental overhaul of U.S. immigration laws in a generation, which would clear the way for millions of undocumented residents to have a chance at citizenship, attract workers from all over the world, and devote unprecedented resources for security along the U.S.-Mexico border.
    .............................................................................
President Obama spoke at the Betty Ann Ong Chinese Recreation Center in San Francisco. He urged Congress to pass immigration reform.

I can guess why the "open borders" lie persists.

Yes. But the point of my post was to show that Dems have been willing to compromise on the issue of immigration by enhancing border security in return for a path to citizenship for qualified immigrants.............something that is favored by a majority of Americans.

Fox News Poll: 83 percent support pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants

    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/fo...pathway-to-citizenship-for-illegal-immigrants

Saying Dems want open borders is a lie.

Same reason Dems keep lying about a deal on DACA I suppose. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/...ion-policy-causes-needless-pain-and-suffering
Dems will abolish ICE rather than negotiate legal residency. They'll defy the law rather than fix it, depriving millions legal status and the benefits of having it. They'll betray union labor by giving sanctuary status to low wage scabs and expect they be thanked by union laborers. (D)'s are some really sick, sorry individuals.

The right is famous for finding one or two individuals who are democrats and then assigning the words and ideas and views of those one or two to the entire left as though it were a basic ideological position of the left. IOW they lack honesty, integrity, and legitimate arguments.

Calls to Abolish ICE Not ‘Open Borders’

    https://www.factcheck.org/2018/07/calls-to-abolish-ice-not-open-borders/

The small minority of Democrats in Congress calling for the end of ICE have all said they would like to have many of ICE’s functions redistributed to other, existing government agencies. None has called for abandoning border enforcement.

Fact is ... it's a manufactured crisis. And unless Califoria states legislature DIDN'T actually declare CA a sanctuary, and make it ILLEGAL to report on undocumented detainees ... you're question has been answered in spades. It's not a political meme ... and you'll convince absolutely no one else otherwise.

I learned long ago that proving the minions wrong with factual evidence does nothing to convince them they are wrong. It's what makes the minions a cult.

"Lesser politicians merely exaggerate or spread fear about what the opposing party would do if they took power in Congress. President Donald Trump is inventing specific pieces of legislation.

Trump’s now rallying supporters by warning them that if Democrats take back the Senate, they’ll pass a bill written by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) called the “Open Borders Bill.”

    No such bill actually exists."

I am not going to bother going back and checking because it is not worth the effort. But, as I remember it, the democrats wanted immigration reform to take place with security of the border taking place at a later date. The did that knowing the republicans would never accept it.

What? Thought deflecting was bad. You think Trump prioritizing San Diego's border security deficiencies is a fluke? The demo-socialist caliphates open borders, and the state sponsored demo-socialist support network for illegal migrants is world renowned. Democratic elected officials have passed laws to protect illegals, and prevent the deportation of illegals, and even reporting of illegals by employers. Exactly what law must Democrats pass before it's open border policy becomes self evident? Illegals can vote in San Fran! Tell me more about this cult. CA ironically the DNC home of Jim Jones. :roflol:

Prior to his recent rallies, I hadn't heard the massive cries of 'open borders' and 'mobs' that we're seeing and hearing now. I'm not saying that either weren't issues, but the new battle cries are coming directly from Trump.

Sanctuary cities have been created BECAUSE OF an absence of rational immigration policies PLUS irrational ad hoc actions taken by those on the right that deal with it completely unfairly and mindlessly.

Listen ... Democrats helped write those irrational policies, and Obama subverted them with DACA ... worse ... Obama's EO included a sunset provision that he created, and Democrats were keenly aware of. Know what sanctuary legislation tells me? Democrats have no intention of abiding by any federal immigration policy congress (D) or (R) enacts. They haven't and they won't keep their word to voters, or immigrants they've left hanging.

I like that! Yes you're right, so? :roflol: The topic being the lie about open borders? Here's your chance to actually address it, and maybe save yourself some more embarassment. I assume you thought you were helping by trying to justify the open borders policies the OP says don't exist? Not sure you did.

Nope. The bill had bipartisan support in the Senate. In part because a majority of Americans favor the kind of reforms included in the bill and in part because it was reached in the spirit of compromise. The bill never reached the floor for a vote in the House because of radical Right opposition to the citizenship component of the compromise.
Once again I'll reiterate my prime point..........Dems were willing to include money for enhanced border security in the bill..........putting a lie to the "open border" myth.

It's nonsensical gibberish like that that makes it difficult to have a fact based, rational argument with a cultist.

You said "Listen ... Democrats helped write those irrational policies". WHAT "policies"? I know of no "open border" policies in place. I don't even know of a general push by any majority of Democrats for "open borders". Are you saying that Republicans helped write some bill that creates "open borders"? I think you're floundering here. So the laugh is on you.

And on "open borders", try this: https://www.factcheck.org/2018/07/calls-to-abolish-ice-not-open-borders/
