Just for fun, here's an update on an old Lenny Bruce bit.

Take the most virulent white male racist....no names needed....and tell them "You will have to spend the next 10 years on a deserted island with one of two women....

One woman is a white, white woman....the other woman is a black, black woman. They are both about the same age, so that doesn't figure into it.....

the black woman is....Halle Berry-






the white woman is...."Mama June" Shannon from "Honey Boo Boo"--

Given the choice between Halle Berry and Mama June, I'll admit to superficiality too.

 

I will not dignify it with a response. Both women are daughters, maybe mothers, wives and sisters to someone who love them.

 

It's also, as shown by my re-vamp of the old Lenny Bruce bit (Lenny used "the average Klansman", and Lena Horne and Kate Smith).....that in almost all cases, even those who are racists, are not willing to overcome basic human nature even to support their racism.

As Lenny said, "It stops being a matter of 'race'...and becomes a matter of 'cute'....so why don't the Klanners start discriminating against ugly people?"

BTW, we ALL here know what the modern racists would do given a choice of Berry or Shannon....even they do.

Lenny Bruce had his moments of brilliance. To be crude, he poinited out how even with the most virulent and hate-filled male bigot.....the bigotry ended at the pubic bone.

The racists know it's true as well....but PRETEND they wouldn't choose the black woman over the white woman....or simply try to ignore the question. But their dishonesty is matched by their hatred...in almost equal parts.

Instead of just saying, "nah man, I don't believe in that", or "you are racist", they accuse you of being the same as the OP. That way, their fellow "conservatives" don't call them out for having "white guilt", or being "liberal". It's called double speak, a skill that internet conservatives seem to be experts at.

True....comes up all the time. The non-racist rightwinger (Yes, I admit...they exist) are basically enablers of the racist ones. Co-dependent, if you will.

While they won't agree with a racist post, they'll try to change the subject to drag it to something they can more "comfortably" deal with....to distract from their Ally's blatent racism.

Nor naturally will they criticize obvious racism from the Right...for the reason you cite. (Or in general, so as to not lose an ally in some other conservatiive fight).

It all dates back to the Nixon/Reagan "Southern Strategy" naturallly....when northern Republicans and Mid-western Republicans had to get in bed politicaly with the George Wallace Dixiecrats to form a coalition to save the GOP from extinction in the 70s. The Party of Lincoln and Eisenhower had to welcome in the likes of Strom Thurmond, Trent Lott, and Jesse Helms (and naturally drop its traditional support for civil rights).

They also had to hold their nose and associate themselves with people they likely found disgusting....but vital for the survival of the Party.

And ironically...or perhaps delusionally.....those same people believe that people will still buy that the Republican Party is somehow STILL the "Party of Civil Rights" it was before the 1970s....even as blatent racists show up on blogs (as identified Republican voters)...to obviously show what a good contingent of the Party is made up of.

Blacks won't buy it....Latinos won't buy it (especially as the hatred becomes so vitriolic that you have posters referring to those migrant children as "disease-ridden felonious monsters".....in fact, I doubt ANYBODY buys it.....not even them.

But they will continue to try.

Your post simply illustrates why we need minority protection and even things like AA.

If it is "normal" for white folks to be attracted to other whites and conversely not attracted to blacks, then we would expect that it is "normal" for white folks to give job and economic preference to other whites and not blacks. This "normal" bias and preferntial treatment amounts to implicit if not overt discrimination against blacks. Which is precisely why we need things like AA to offset this "normal" discriminatory tendency.

Because the solution is to punish WHITE MALES like ME, who had nothing to do with the establishment of racism in this country. AA is simply, codified. legalized reverse racism, a "make up call", like when a ref makes a bad call in a sports event, he tries to set things right with a 2nd illegitimate call. What's my solution? SOMETHING ELSE, that doesn't hurt someone who is INNOCENT of wrong doing.

Because the fact there is a law does not mean there is not discrimination. Because it is a subjective notion, it can be very difficult if not impossible to prove.
