Why is anyone outraged at Petaeus anyway? Have you seen his wife??

Petraeus might have cheated on his wife regardless of her appearance. Though, if I'm honest, I'd have to say that they seem like an odd couple by appearance only. He could do better in that category if he wanted, which doesn't mean he should simply because he can, and it doesn't mean that he can find a woman who's better in the ways that truly matter.

Regardless though, you should never be unfaithful to your partner, married or not, unless it's understood that the relationship is open. It's better to be honest if you become dissatisfied, and find yourself desiring others. The pain and drama associated with honesty, will likely be less severe than what comes with getting caught in the act.

 

Yeah and if he was a french general I might have more sympathy with him, esp if there was evidence that his wife had been fine with an open marriage.

But it wasn't France it was, I am sorry if I sound judgmental, the puritanical United States of America. Aside from the personal failing of having cheated on his wife, by whom he had two children, you have an appalling lack of judgement from a man who is in a position of great power, it nearly brought down a president did he think he could get away with it?

Also as an aside is it not an offence in the military to have an extramarital affair? As a general should he not have been even more observant of the law?

 

So if Petraeus dumps his wife and marries Broadwell, there's no reason she shouldn't kick him to the curb in ten years or so. Right?

Personally, the only interest I take in the Petraeus affair has to do with the confidential information he leaked to Broadwell.

The fact that he cheated is his problem. The fact that he violated his security clearance is society's problem.
