There is one grain of truth to what the OP says.

On the net, you get people that make out like they would not maybe find one person more attractive than their existing partner, when in reality, the do, and probably have cheated even.

 

You touched a nerve Zosia so you can see why. akqhide, your response is emotional and the example she used I am sure wasn't aimed personally at you but her point is valid.

The real issue with Patraeus is the timing of the announcement. I doubt that anyone is surprised by dallying of men in these positions but it does outline something of his makeup. He is probably good at what he does but a liar in small things means a liar in big things so his "retirement" is appropriate for a man in his position.

 

That is a risk you take when you get married and give your word.

Risk, more like liability. In many mens cases, a divorce is so financially devistating, they are robbed of any hope of retirement. Do you realize that if some one like Petreus divorces his wife, she is entitled to half his retirement for the rest of his life? Even if he wanted out of the marriage, he would be financially committing suicide by doing so. The cost for women in divorce is usually nill because most women marry men that make more money then they do. So in divorce court she walks away with his money and his kids.

This makes sense in the 50's when women stayed at home and took care of the family, but in an age where they are suposibly equal, this still goes on. Men who get sucked into marriage to an American woman are sad souls IMO. I feel very sorry for their impending financial collapse...

It hasent changed the bias of the court system and all the laws that favor women in divorce. The statistics are already out there and they are a direct reflection of the mysandric society we live in the the US now.

This is just not true. The other half of the people in my firm are family law attorneys and from time to time I have to assist. I can name you several examples of where women are screwed royally in equitable distribution states.

Now that is a question women have struggled with since time began. Like the woman who spends her life "taking care of herself" so she'll be attractive to her husband while he gets fat, bald, and grows a beer belly - but if he has an affair, it's all HER fault for not being attractive or sexy ENOUGH to keep him happy.

 

Women secretly seethe as these threads, because they privately worry about it being them!!
