If you believe that there is only one solution you need to read Marine1's post and do some more homework.

When it is as hot as it is in AZ, there is no, "setting your thermostat higher". Most of the year, AC units in AZ run nearly all the time. They may stop for a few minutes here or there but they are mostly on all the time.

One solution to what? Cooling your home or business, running equipment? Sure there are other ways but why not keep electricity cheap since that is what we all use?

The government interfering with this is what has screwed this nation.

On top of sticking it to consumers, Obama's EPA will run up costs for the remaining US-made products and put pressure on the remaining manufacturers to move their operations offshore, beyond the reach of the mad dogs at the EPA.

Quintupled electric bills and less jobs: Obama's economic plan.

    Really!!!

So that time I was in Sierra Vista, Tombstone and Bisby while doing work at Ft Huachuca(spell?) and the temperature 20 - 30 degrees at night was the one moment the AC stopped. :)

I've been in the desert before, Camp Irwin, CA, it gets very cold in the desert at night.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK, I am tired of correcting your mistakes.

And they dropped in 2009-2010 because of the economic downturn. You have to take that into consideration if you're going to cite the $1.80 average gas price when talking about the beginning of Obama's term. Looking at any graph of gas prices will show a large dip at that point, and gas has been climbing steadily(over the long term) since then.

Refer to my post above, because ignorance that can be fixed with information is much worse than amnesia.

I'll reply now, cause I'm sure you'll be banned before the day's over.

All we heard by libs and your beloved media is that Bush was an 'oil man', and in bed with 'big oil'. I could post quotes and clips, but i'm not wasting anymore time on you. Of course those same idiots are silent now. Odd huh?

When Bush simply mentioned opening up reserves and drilling, prices went down pretty quick. Weird that Obama hasn't done the same. You libs are just too easy.

ANOTHER Fox "News Right Wing BS" thread!

Let's look at the kind of duplicity of the Right in forcing their "make fossil fuel providers ever richer" agenda, using this auction of special peak capacity power as a red herring.

The auction for 2015 is occurring NOW, a few year's prior to 2015.

His "comparison point" is, oddly, the auction for 2012! Why 2012? Why, that just happened to be an auction OCCURRING in 2009 in the very depths of our world ECONOMIC CRASH, when predicted increased demand for electricity was almost NON-EXISTENT! The power companies had to almost GIVE away this excess-capacity power!

This is like saying "President Obama caused the prices of Cherries to rise to $8/pound this December, when last June [the height of cherry harvest time], cherries were ONLY $1.99/pound!"

In the REAL world, THIS auction's price for ONLY peak capacity sources is just 7% higher than the last year's, and was quite a bit less than the companies hoped for, to get money to build additional natural gas peaking capacity, which is the issue these days, not more coal generation, which is for baseline capacity.

If anyone wanted to know what this auction was peak capacity auction was REALLY about and how little it affects power bills, you could read the entirety of the following article. Yes, yes, I know that was wasted bytes for the fossil fuel junkies and useful idiots.

The goal is to raise the cost of all energy. Congratulations, liberals. President Obama and Secretary Chu are chortling.

    Good job Dave!!!

Our RW malcontents are arguing against progress. A simple web search on the US military's use of alternative energy, is already implemented. It is being implemented in Afghanistan.

It doesn't go down to 20-30 degrees during the summer in AZ.

    From your link....

Still need electricity to run those the last time I looked.
how will that keep you cool all day in 110 deg temps?
Still need electricity to cool that washcloth!

That link is one of the stupidest things I have ever read.

No, since Obama took office, gas prices rose.

Obama said himself he wants energy prices to skyrocket.

They did rise, but that was a correction back to the levels they had been at for a good portion of the decade before Obama took office. Saying the rise in gas prices after the drop due to the downturn is Obama's fault is like pointing at your TV during a power outage and complaining that there's nothing on. Obama may have said he wants gas prices to rise, but he cannot control the international price of oil. Are you giving him credit for the recent drop in gas prices? Is he doing something right? Gas prices rise and fall and they are only marginally affected by the sitting president.

It is in part due to Obama's handling of things. He doesn't want to open XL, he doesn't want to have a gas tax holiday, he doesn't want to drill in ANWR, he doesn't want to increase drilling on public lands.

The increased debt and spending Obama is causing goods and services to cost more.

March 21, 2014 is the effective date for applicability of Boiler MACT.

Comparing today to 2015 is to compare the latest price to that to a period after Boiler MACT kicks in.

Before and after the EPA's misguided reg.

None of those things would do much to lower gas prices. Increased drilling and the XL pipeline might create a few jobs, but the oil is going to go on the world market just like the rest of it. The addition of it to the supply chain might drop prices a little, but it's doubtful.

That's good; it'll create jobs; someone has to make candles. Think how much money you'll save not having to buy electricity. It'll be a win-win or you.

this is a lie, Obama simply does not want it run through a wilderness protected game preserve and locations where it can destroy a 4 state 200 million year old aquifer that irrigates most of the farmland

do the Republicans want a gas tax holiday? And what does that fix except not fixing roads! BEsides EVERY day is a "gas tax holiday" because we haven't raised those fixed amount taxes for DECADES!
ANWR oil would go to China. Who cares?
We are RIGHT NOW drilling FIVE TIMES MORE WELLS on public lands tan in 2002! And it hasn't done ANY good

The increased debt and spending are keeping people from having to live in the streets and eat garbage. Why don't the Republicans cut military spending by 25%? There is NOBODY who id planning to take us over anytime soon.

Did you even read your own link?

Let's look at their brilliance, they say:

    "Increase insulation.
Double-paned windows, well-insulated walls and increasing the insulation in your attic all help to save energy by keeping the cool air indoors. Consider recycled blue jean or paper insulation."

    The above is correct. Properly insulating your house will stop the cold air from the A/C pulling in the hot air from the outside by providing a continuous thermal boundary, then they say this;

    "Install a solar attic fan.
A solar attic fan decreases the hot air trapped in the space, making the home easier to cool and can decrease your home cooling bill by up to 10% a year."

Nothing like properly insulating your house then putting a giant gaping hole in the middle of the attic via an attic fan, brilliant I say, brilliant!

Man, I can sure see why you live in a cardboard shack with NO insulation and an air conditioner that never stops!

I have visions that you have insulated the UNDERSIDE OF YOUR ROOF and have nothing but drywall above your head in the ceiling of your rooms!

See, in a house, you have an attic space which is the space ABOVE your interior ceilings and BELOW your roof!

You are supposed to HEAVILY INSULATE the ceiling ABOVE YOUR HEAD to keep your rooms cool.

Then, you need to VENTILATE the space in the attic BELOW THE ROOF and ABOVE YOUR CEILINGS so the heat from the roof (which has sun on it) gets blown outside, and your ceiling has ONLY 110 degrees above it, not 150 degrees above it!

Actually, since Arizona has few restrictions on contractors, I imagine you easily could have a house built by some fly-by-night gypsy contractor who built it exactly backward.

If your air conditioner is running more than a 50% cycle time when it is over 100 degrees outside, your house needs work!
