Okay, before I go further, I KNOW it's a Fox News Poll. But, check out the actual question:The actual poll is @ http://www.hoover.org/library-and-archives/acquisitions/178936 Anyhow, here the link to Hot Air with further links to back up the claims @ http://hotair.com/archives/2014/05/17/shocker-seven-in-ten-favor-voter-id-laws/
SO? We are talking about laws designed to restrict minority voting, with a massive propaganda campaign designed to say public opinion by hyping a non-existent problem. Advertising works in shaping opinions, especially carefully worded opinions.
You don't want any kind of voter ID. What are you afraid of. Are you afraid of common sense . Let's hear the lie you will attempt to perpetrate to cover it. Don't use the "hurts the minority" line because the it cheapens the debate . Come up with something that you can prove with substantial backing because anything else appears to be smoke and mirrors . I'm listening ?
Having had to vote in the inner city a couple of times the single biggest argument for voter ID is streamlining the system. They could easily cut their wait times by 50% by removing the time wasted waiting for people to pull out their mail and for the poll worker to look it over and make sure it is one of the accepted forms of ID and comparing addresses etc. The people with the photo IDs go through much quicker than those with a utility bill. There is ZERO rational argument against voter ID and despite what morons on this thread keep saying this isn't about disenfranchising minority voters (since everyone including rich white old men have to show them) what it is is the GOP pushing an issue that polls well for them. The majority of every single group including blacks supports photo ID this has nothing to do with race it has everything to do with politics and hot button issues.
Agree with CJ, also, being as it's a Fox Poll, I'm going to have to ask for a few others to back it as it could easily be cherry picked. And, yes, I generally disbelieve anything Fox says on General Principles. I've never seen ANY sense with requiring voter ID if the person is at their own polling place, because his ID has already been checked when he registered to vote or he wouldn't be there. Now, requiring it for somebody who is voting at another polling place doesn't seem unreasonable, but that's actually very rare.
It is interesting how the Republicans who are constantly against more regulation and more laws change their view when the regulation supports their agenda. The fact is that no evidence has been provided to demonstrate a reason to implement ID laws.
So conversely it is interesting how the Democrat who are constantly for more regulations and more laws change their views when not regulating supports their agenda as in they support ID to exercise your right to keep and bear arms and it is not discriminatory to suppress minorities in exercising that right right? Go read the other threads on the matter and you will find it and implementing such common sense measures is a no brainer.
You hit the nail on the head there. "Rational". When are Liberals rational, truly? Their arguments often revolve around feelings and gut and emotion, NOT facts or logic. Its very hard to debate or discuss a serious topic when the person you're up against isn't being rational. Like trying to defend yourself against your wife during her time of the month. You can't win nor can you have an intelligent conversation, so you just walk out of the room letting her think she's "won" or just say yes dear.=)
Too bad since they give the most accurate and balanced presentation of the news. "A recent Elon University Poll showed that over 72 percent of North Carolina Residents support the idea of requiring voters to show photo identification before being allowed to vote. The findings are consistent to an Elon University Poll conducted in March of 2012 which found 74 percent of those surveyed supporting a photo identification requirement for voters. " http://www.elon.edu/docs/e-web/elonpoll/030413_ElonPoll_voterID.pdf "In this poll: Almost three-quarters of all Americans support the idea that people should have to show photo identification to vote, " http://www.washingtonpost.com/page/...g/release_116.xml?uuid=E1kPqOQZEeGJ93biOpgtBg And of note "In spite of a Washington Post poll showing 74 percent of Americans favor government-issued photo ID mandates at polling places, CNN skipped those numbers this past week in six separate segments on voter ID laws. As a MediaIte study noted, MSNBC aired 19 segments on voter ID laws from Monday through Thursday without mentioning the poll. While CNN's coverage was largely balanced, the poll numbers still should have been reported in their discussions on voter ID laws." http://www.mrc.org/biasalerts/msnbc...rcent-americans-support-showing-photo-id-vote Can you site any polls showing where 3/4 do not support voter ID?
80% of Americans support universal background checks for all gun sales. I guess this means we should do it?
I find one thing kind of odd. The left is always preaching to us about how we should be looking to Europe and do what they do. They all have strict voter ID laws. They protect the sanctity of the process. Us, not so much.
I'm a lib but I favor voter ID. On the other hand, I believe every citizen should have easy access to identification and registration. That costs money and that's where Republican initiatives end. In other words, Republicans want to limit the poor people vote. Ask any Republican vote suppressor if he's willing to pay for ID for any citizen who wants it and they'll say NO.
Who, exactly is "the left" and do you have any examples of what you say they are "always preaching" about to you? Some Europeans do some things better and some things worse and comparative analysis can be to either's benefit, of course, but I have not heard "preaching" about it from right, left, on centre.
We could always compromise, and instead of instituting the bureaucratic requirement of flashing an easily-obtained fake ID at the poll nanny, just show her a gun as evidence we had our identity confirmed already.
The average liberal. Liberals are always telling us how we need to be more like Europe. But you can go ahead and swerve away from the issue.
Bull(*)(*)(*)(*). Every state that implemented voter ID has free IDs for people that can't afford it.
lol, it's ridiculous. "Requiring an ID to exercise your 2nd amendment rights is just common sense!" "You want to require an id to exercise an extra-constitutional right?... racist! xenophobe!"
