So? Is ignorance of the law because some website was allegedly incorrect a defense of sorts?

Sorry judge, but some website told me bank robbery was legal so I should not go to jail

    Yeah, I don't think so.

Looks like the guns laws in NY are working. They are NOT preventing criminals from getting guns, and shooting other people while PENALIZING innocuous citizens who are trying to follow the complex laws with jail time. Hooray dumb politicians from NYC...

One would think the police/DA/mayor would have more pressing issues... I guess not. After all, why spend time trying to solve rapes, murders, stabbing, etc.. Lets go after people who for the most part are law abiding citizens.... not the gang bangers who don't even follow the gun laws.. brilliant....

Those evil gun owners who have no previous criminal records, who are trying to follow the rules, etc.. YES, THEY ARE THE PROBLEM -- not the actual murders, rapists, etc..

Mayor Bloomberg, he's definitely looking out for you...

Another example of why mandatory minimum sentences shouldn't exist. What do we do now; do we jail an person who violated the letter of the law yet committed no actual crime or do we disregard the law and let him go? Our legal system has some serious flaws.

I think what is so irritating about this story is that save for double checking the law, this man took every prudent step.

His license was valid in the state he left.
    He checked online.
    He properly packed his gun.
He asked a security person where to check his gun.

Basically, he tried to play by the rules and was punished because of a simple mistake. As for the morons suggesting that this is similar to Plaxico, there are several huge differences.

Plaxico lived and worked in NY.
    Plaxico had an expired license.
Plaxico did not volunteer his weapon to a security officer.
Plaxico accidentally discharged his weapon in a room full of people.

I think that this guy should be given a small fine and let off. Jail time would be absurd in my opinion.

    Yes. It does.

Despite many on the left ignoring that fact.

    Mello,

This isn't even in the same ballpark and you know it.

Plexico concealed his gun and it went off. The Marine walked up to a security guard and asked where he should check his gun.

To claim they are related or to imply racism without a shred of evidence is not only painfully inaccurate but really low.

if he didn't do it intentionally to make a statement then something should be done

the basis for the charges is the same, they both assumed their permit was valid in NY, and both were facing a min. of 3 1/2 years for the SAME mistake.

yes plaxico added a bit of stupidity by shooting himself, but he would have been looking at 3 1/2 regardless.

its a wacko liberal law can't justify it, the law is suppose to be intended to prevent criminals from getting guns not give mandatory minimum 3 year sentences to reasonable law abiding gun owners

BUT if Plaxico had to be punished for it so does this marine, its pretty much the same circumstances plaxico may have a little more icing on the cake but they both consumed the cake

If you have a gun on your person, you are "bearing an arm".

    Expressly allowed in the Constitution.

You might want to look up the definition of wisdom.

It may clue you in to what you're not posting.

Does that personal attack redefine arms to mean guns?

Sorry, the bold is really beyond stupid - but nice try......

When a person checks a website of the state they're going to about their gun laws, they are inclined to believe what they read.... they would assume the person entering the data would know what they were talking about, since that is their job........

You know, I'd love to see you loony tune libs in a situation exactly like the Marine's... then it would be a different story, wouldn't it?

You'd be weeping and a waiting in your jail cell, insisting you hadn't done anything wrong - you had checked the gun laws of that state, you asked the security officer where to check your gun in, you had never been in trouble w/the law in your whole life........ and I would be on your side b/c you hadn't done anything wrong. You were going by the book, as it was written.......

Then to compare this Marine w/that idiot who lived in NY, knew the laws, but took the gun w/him anyway to a bar and proceeded to shoot himself in the foot is nothing but typical liberal mentality..... nice try.... :bored:
