Its the teacher's call in his classroom I myself would show maybe a half an hour or so, and plan a lesson plan on inaugurals' themselves, but I would avoid showing the speech itself unless I knew what was in that speech.

But is it the role of the teacher to indoctrinate their students into their own politics? Did this teacher let her class watch the Obama inauguration? If so then it's an open and shut case.

I agree that there's nothing set in stone about letting your class watch the Inauguration, but you can't only show those you agree with. That's wrong.

I understand the teacher's feelings. After all, Trump's nominee for Education Secretary had a (deservedly) rough day a couple of days ago. She doesn't believe in public education and think schools should be run like a private prison system. And, even though she grudgingly admitted that charter and public schools out to be held to the same standards, she spent millions in Michigan to insure that they were not. And BTW, screw the disabled and kids with learning disabilities. I guess this activist who is a self proclaimed "expert" in education never heard of the McKinny-Vento Act. At least she wasn't aware of it in the Senate on Tuesday.

Yes, I can understand how the teacher feels.

Still, it's important to see this rite of political passage. The kids need to see the Clown Price without makeup and shorn of easy access to his Twitter account. The Court Jester is about to take the throne, and everyone needs to see that for what it is. Of course, it is already becoming apparant, inauguration or no.

They'll need to see the man get the job, so they'll have the image in their minds when he goes, one way or another.

The teacher WILL show the Inauguration. He isn't going to show Trump's speech. The OP deliberately altered the headline in the story to create this false impression.
