Note that "paid" is past tense.

The teacher has no control over how knowledge is used in the future.

Knowledge need not be gained from a teacher. Once can gain knowledge from any number of sources, including no sources at all in the case of
    "trial and error" experimentation.

Your attempt to create a nexus with common goods is disingenuous at best.[/QUOTE]

And that includes what? A one bedroom apartment, food, water and clothing? What do they get for working?

    That is irrelevant.

With respect to copyrights, in the US it's life-time plus 70 years for the author and note that education had no bearing or play no role in many copyright works.

I have no formal training in art or photography, yet I've sold watercolors and photos. That's most embarrassing for the OP.

Copyrights are not a 100% barrier to anything. You can grant me permission to use, reproduce or distribute your copyrighted works for free if you want, or you can ask that I pay you a well-deserved royalty, since you thought it up and I didn't.

That's even more embarrassing for the OP, because it proves education is not equal, since you thought it up and I didn't.

Patents are 10 or 17 years in the US (depending) although it is possible to extend that by pending the patent, it is rarely done because of the speed technology has been introduced of late.

Even so, you can grant me the right to use your patent for free, or ask I pay a well-deserved royalty, since you thought it up and I didn't.

Myself, personally, I wouldn't want the hassle of starting up and managing a company to produce something I had patented.

Instead, I would grant someone else a license to produce it for me, which, by the way, happens 90% of the time.

The OP acts like patents and copyrights bring commerce to a standstill, when the exact opposite is true.

Then again, you know leeches, they're always sucking blood from someone else.

A most excellent point the OP overlooks.

I suck at song-writing, whether it's lyrics or music, but in the astonishing event that I managed to crank a song out, it's not like I'm stealing from Mr. Howard, my elementary school music teacher.

My gift is arranging music others wrote, especially for guitar, and I am a dues-paying RIAA member, so it's not like I'm stealing when I'm playing out.

    Well, what did you expect?

The OP thinks you can only have a successful life if government holds your hand and tells you what to do every step of the way.

    There's no such thing.

Oh, I didn't say they admitted or even realized it; they always deny it. It's the way think; basically nothing matters except what they want. Thus in the larger game- they are losers. Their choice, with or without awareness. I'd like to see them all become winners, but I have no control over that- only they do, and if a person doesn't want it there's nothing we can do except let them deal with the consequences of their choices and hope eventually they will figure it out. Last thing we should do is feed their illusions.

Hrmm okay. And in this society what level of lifestyle would I live if I were willing to work and do whatever job it is the government says I should? Would it be comparable to $100,000 a year in today’s terms? $50,000? $25,000? $300,000?

Unless you yourself personally make or harvest EVERYTHING you need, you are not self-reliant.

There's a pretty good capitalist argument against IP and patents also - you doing something for the first time should not restrict my use of my property.

IP only exists to the extent is subjugates your ownership of physical property.

Im suggesting there should be. Tho, as I stated before, it should be prohibitively expensive for the state and ludicrously prosperous for the 'domainee' so as to limit its use to only when absolutely necessary.

A formula to guarantee no one ever invents anything ever again. Granted that does make it easier to micromanage the world if you can avoid anything new.

Since the government doesn't produce anything, what this "system" guarantees is that companies like Amazon, with their manufacturing facilities in China, will be able to simply pay a few dozen people to go monitor the patent office to be the first to market with new technology and inventions.

It's a recipe for keeping the poor poor and the rich rich.
